"Service was excellent. Andrew Stover, the sommelier, has created an excellent wine list. I was delighted to see a good selection of Virginia wines on the first page. The $29 "Prix Fixe" menu was a great deal, with an excellent selection of dishes that were all prepared and presented to perfection. I have also enjoyed a sushi lunch at OYA and it was imaginative and exceptional. I will recommend OYA."

"I had stopped going because the service used to be awful.
However, the service has improved ten-fold.

Squash soup tasted better than last time, but it was too thick
and ended up coagulating when it sat for awhile.

"I love this place, but the service on this trip was painfully slow. I was embarrassed for recommending it to the group, but luckily the food was up to par. However, I think I will have to think twice before coming here again, despite my absolute love for it!"

"Both of us ordered the $29 three-course fixed price meal. Everything was excellent. I had the salmon, which was done perfectly; my husband had the beef, also done perfectly. Salads (I had fig; he had spinach) were very good. It would have been nice to have some sort of bread to accompany them. Desserts were great. We did have to call the server back so we could order coffee.
We will be back!"

"It is quite loud in this restaurant so it is not the type of place you want to go for a romantic date but it is lively in a good way. The service was great! If your waiter isn't available 2 others are readily asking you if you need anything. The manager was visible and attentive and the food was delicious-great place to go with friends."

"OYA has become one of my favorite places in DC. I typically travel to DC 6-8 times a year and enjoy trying new places. The menu has a good variety of both sushi, small plates, and large plates. My problem is I sometimes get stuck with how good the small plates sound and order more small plates. This is not actually a problem here at OYA since ordering about 5 or 6 small plates for two is perfect and allows a good variety of sampling the cuisine. I enjoy Pinot's and was impressed that the wine list was both extensive and unique. The Pinot section included only one from France and California and the remaining 15 or so from Oregon. Ironically I was in Oregon recently and went wine tasting and enjoyed many of their Pinots."

"What food from our order they served was very good -- although they had removed a substantial portion of the scallops dish by no longer including pasta. It's now more like a small plate portion at a large plate price.

However, they completely forgot part of my order and initially brought the wrong dish out for my companion. They also never once refilled our water, despite it being my only drink and my glass being empty for most of the meal. This was even after we politely asked the manager for refills.

At least they only tried to charge for the items they actually served.

Previous visits to this restaurant have been far better, so here's to hoping this was a one-time problem."

"The ambiance is breathtaking - modern in style with crisp, yet inviting black and white decor, huge "fire and ice" inspired fireplace and flowing wall of water. The food was equally fabulous, and the service was impeccable. We were so enthralled with dinner that we went back two days later for lunch! The bar/lounge area is spacious and a great place for conversation. The prix fixe menu is an incredible deal - three courses for $29.00 (dinner) and $19.00 for lunch - I don't know how they do it with such quality, but it's the best deal in the world!"

"Want to impress your date? This is the place to be! When I checked "Scenic View", I meant inside, the decor is amazing! Sit by the fireplace and have dinner, which is filling and is very reasonable, dinner for 2 = $120.00 + tip. Service was excellent. "My overall experience at Oya Restaurant was good one. It was my first time there celebrating my girl friends birthday and even she admitted that it was a nice restuarant. "I took a group of people here for dinner after a conference. It was incredibly loud (the price you pay for a marble/stone interior) and our waiter was a bit aloof. The food was great and it was convenient to the Convention Center area. We had reserved a table, they we too crowded and we had to wait in the bar. Once seated, the service was very hurried. "Are you ready to order?", one minute after being seated. Several attempts to take each course away while still eating. It was so loud my husband and I needed to lean in and shout at each other to converse. They NEVER asked how any of the dishes were. While eating dessert both the manager and the server told us our car was waiting, although we hadn't requested it be retrieved. Food is presented in a delicate, appetizing manner, but scallops were fishey,hubby

"With a 10pm reservation for 3 people, we waited 45 minutes for our table. Every time we checked in at the desk, they said it would be just a little longer. I would have much more appreciated the honesty that they were running behind schedule, then I would have gotten a drink at the bar and relaxed until they came and got us. That was the weakest part of the service. Once we were seated, the waitress was excellent. This place has a great vibe and I definitely recommend it."

"I've eaten at Oya before, and the food has always been wonderful. I ate there for lunch and had the 5-spice chicken salad. I think I just didn't like the spices, because my husband tried it and loved it. I hated it. In addition, my dish had cut-up chicken bones in it. (It does have a full chicken leg, which was fine, but I didn't expect the cut up bones. My husband loved his sashimi. We also had the pineapple upside down cake, which was dry. It's a shame, because I normally love Oya."

"Cool food and decor, but the bar was SO energetic that our food arrived way before our cocktails (and I think it's because the bar was so busy, not that our server was inattentive). And even though we requested a table as far away from the bar as possible, my dinner partner and I could still barely hear each other over the noise. If the restaurant could solve the noise issue, and maybe increase the bar staff a bit, this would be one of the top restaurants in DC - but these things seriously detract from the experience."

"This is an excellent restaurant, which I was happy to see that it has not changed, as I dined at this restaurant a couple of times several years ago. I am visiting DC again, and it was nice to return to a familiar restaurant, and the fact that the food, and service was as excellent as I remembered from my first experience is wonderful!!

The sushi is wonderful, the prie fixe menu is GREAT, and short ribs were perfectly cooked, and the Pineapple Upsidedown Cake was wonderful!!

"This is not the first time I have been to Oya. As usual the food was good as was most of the service. The only part of the service that was not good was the fact the Valet lost the keys to my car. They did get me home through a car service but it was a hassle trying to get the car. The only part that really upset me was the fact the restaurant manager didn't feel as though the service losing my keys was a big deal! They offered not real help or even offer to take care of our party after an hour waiting on the car, not even to buy us a drink while we were waiting! I stated to him that Oya hired them so in fact they are a part of your restaurant. I hope that if this happens to other in the future the restaurant takes a more proactive response"

"I loved the food. I ordered a few appetizers, some sushi, and ate the scallops. Oy meal was perfect. My girlfriend ordered the salmon. Although we liked the flavor combinations, she ordered the salmon medium well, and it came out more medium/ meduim rare. NOt a big enough deal to send it back though. The bok choy was cooked perfectly. The space was very tight, but it was a Friday night, so that's to be expected. Because the seating was tight, I felt as if I was part of the conversations around me and had no privacy with my girlfriend. That was not good for us, but it didn't ruin the night.Overall, it was a great night."

"The scene was great. The service was great. Management there is lacking. I was in the service industry for many years so im speaking from personal experience. Sommelier wasnt the brightest guy in the room. Why would you charge a corkage fee when you have guests there who had a very bad experience there prior and gave your restaurant a second chance and when we also ordered a bottle of wine in addition to the bottle of champagne we brought? That, I thought was tacky. We went to Citronelle the next night and they didnt impose a corkage fee because we also purchased their wines as well while bringing one special bottle with us. If you prefer high clientel at your restaurant you should do tacky things like this."

"the interior was stunning and the food was great. The sushi seemed on the pricey side but it was well worth it. Service was not great. "I am so very excited to write this review. To start, the service was excellent from the street. My wife and I were running behind and called to change our reservation by 30 minutes but ended up making it on time and the Hostess was absolutely wonderful and very professional. We were seated immediately. Now this is where the night got better. Our waiter (Andrew) gave us the best service I've had in years. He was attentive, genuine, knowledgeable and personable. The wine list was great,his suggestions were excellent. The food was outstanding and dessert was amazing. At the end of this wonderful evening my car was waiting for us soon as we were done dining. I would suggest Oya to everyone, great service is where they seal the deal."

"I'm not sure what happened to oya. I went there last summer and the food was amazing we ate from their year round fixed prixe menu and everyone really enjoyed every course but with our recent visit I can't quite say the same about the food. The waiter told us that they recently changed the menu and obviously it wasn't for the better. It wasn't completely horrible but it definitely wasn't the same. But I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour or a good spot to grab appetizers & drinks before going out. Lots of good looking young professionals."

I used to dine here frequently when Oya first opened - used to be a special dining experience: chic dining room, great ambience, innovative menu. Now - they play loud dance music to dine by. "The bar was packed an noisy--very noisy. We had a reserve for 7:00 p.m. When we were seated, most of the tables were empty. Within a few minutes they were packed with mostly large groups of 20-30 somethings, many of which were groups of young women for a night out with the girls. "The restaurant itself is gorgeous and the staff are well dressed and professional. My wife and I were seated at a 2-top table directly between two other couples that were seated very close to us. I wished they could have spread us out a little more since most of the restaurant was still empty at the time we arrived.

We started with sushi rolls (Rock n Roll, Mucho Bonito) which were to die for! Very tasty and well presented! We decided to go with small plates to share. We ordered the herb-crusted lamb, peking duck crepes, and lobster mac n cheese. The herb-crusted lamb was like a lamb crab cake - excellent, but a v small portion. The lobster mac n cheese had large peices of lobster which was great. The duck crepes - not so good."

"Oya has a special 3-course fixed price lunch menu that was awesome! Asian-inspired menu with lots of sushi but also plenty of sandwiches for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Ambiance was really terrific. A fabulous contemporary white-on-white look with modern fireplace centerpiece, candles, chandeliers -- very cool. "I loved this place! I live in the neighborhood and for whatever reason had never been here before. I'll be going back a lot now, that's for sure! The food I got was fantastic: lobster bisque, tuna bruchetta, and duck crepes (with a taste of molten chocolate cake for dessert). Choosing just these was a challenge, as the menu had a lot of great options. Definitely a great choice, especially if you're looking for someplace really nice with great food but that will not completely clean out your wallet."

"Oya was incredible. The ambiance of the restaurant is spectacular - multiple fireplaces, lots of marble and glass, white leather seating, dim lighting (without being too dim), etc. Service was knowledgeable, friendly and speedy. Food was tremendous. I went with my girlfriend for our anniversary, and they cleverly brought out our deserts with candles and a 'happy anniversary' message written in chocolate. Cannot say enough about Oya. Wonderful place to eat, drink, celebrate, or any combination thereof."

"It was my first time here. The decor drew me in immediately. I loved the contemporary look, but found it very warm and welcoming. I can see why I've heard the bar/lounge here is very popular. The service was on top and friendly. The crunchy salmon roll was amazingly light in texture but full of flavor. The ahi tuna salad was fresh, satisfying and had an amazing array of texture and taste in every bite. I ended with a selection of sorbet; the perfectly light finish to a wonderful meal. My dining companion had the bento box and had nothing but great things to say about every little dish. This is certainly another place I would like to explore again in the evening and try other dishes."

Elegant design to interior - too bad noise level detracts from a more plesant dining expereience since you have to speak in a very loud voice to be heard across the table or with the wait staff.

Excellent selction of wines but overpriced comparativelly for the same bottles of wines in other DC fine restaurants.

"It was DC Restaurant Week when I lunched at OYA. The 1st and 2nd coures list of choices was much more extensive (12 or more each) than I would have thought and read very well. The presentation my foood and everything I saw pass the table was outstanding. "We made the mistake of trying Oya for dinner during Restaurant week after knowing foodie friends who frequent this place for lunch and really like it. We waited 25 minutes for our table on a Thursday night; they were clearly unprepared for the crowd but were not apologetic. Once we finally got seated, the three of us literally had to shout to understand each other, which was not the evening we had planned. The server was pleasant but not terribly attentive and brought out a hot desert before we were finished with our meals and obviously just let it sit in back until bringing again it out later. One in our party was very disappointed with her salad and entree, and even the best things we had were not worth the hassle and atmosphere."

"A group of four went here for restaurant week. The server was very good and steered us to her favorites which turned out to be fabulous. The butternut soup and fig salad were real winners for starters. The four entrees were superior and we also got four different desserts, all were winners. The three flights of wine to pair with the 3 course meal set up for restaurant week was a great idea and reasonably priced to try some wines not usually available by the glass. All in all we really enjoyed the food experience. The decor and ambiance are quite nice, especially by the dramatic fireplace. Not so great was the incredible noise level. All of us were feeling hoarse by the end of the 2 hour evening. Not likely to go again."

I order shrimp thinking they'd be whole shrimp and they ended up being shrimp served like sushi in a wrap and it wasn't very flavorful. "I frequent Oya because I think it's the best place in town for the money. The food is magnificent, creative, and varied. And the pris fixe deal can't be beat. The decor is fascinating. Everything is white, and there are "four element" themes, metal, fire, water, air. Wear black there and feel very European. The suave wait staff are very well trained--Andrew is tops; ask for him! It's the place to take visitors, who will be very impressed with your good taste in dining. Vegetarian? No problem! They can make you a dish if one on the menu is not to your liking ("Ramen noodles"; better than the name suggests). This place is elegant, hip, and low key at the same time. Yes, it can be noisy, but come on, people love that. Go there, go!"

"The decor is amazing and the food is nothing short of magnificent. I will most definitely be returning. The fireplace is the epitome of romance and the white marble is both posh and inviting. The waiter was polite and although a bit noisy you could still easily hear the person you were with. This place is great for dates, particularly if you're on a first date trying to impress someone because the prix fixe dinner is only $29. The cocktails, although expensive, were strong and worth it. Moulin Rouge is the perfect girly drink. You must go! Enjoy and bon appetite"

"I went for the 3 course menu starting with calamari, served in a tiny paper-lined meshwork frying unit, looks great. As for the wine, I would have sworn the ordered Riesling was really a Gewürztraminer. Scallops were a real treat, I couldn't choose any other main course. The combination with zucchini, ginger and an unrecognizable spicy addition to the pleasure proved I had chosen right. The molten chocolate cake offered no surprises. To finish off, the signature coffee, some sort of chocolate-infused cup of hot brew topped with Godiva white chocolate cream. Yum! Somewhat hidden from sight, Oya is protected from ad-hoc customers, maybe intentionally. If you know where you want to go, you may deviate from your path and go here instead. Enjoy."

"The most outstanding sushi and amalgam of flavors I've ever had. Your other dishes are incredible as well blending together things like ginger and ketchup for a unbelievable taste. As I told my sister after dining there, "it was like I had a party going on in my mouth." So many new tastes and textures. Awesome!
The menu offers such an eclectic variety! Definitely one of my favorite restaurant that I have recommended to numerous friends and coworkers!"

"Great ambiance and absolutely beautiful decor. Loved the fireplace and the white decor. Great place for a romantic date and we were lucky enough to get seating by the fireplace. Food and presentation were equally impressive. My favorite part of the meal was the molten chocolate cake - you can't go wrong.

Definitely bang for your buck if you go with the 3-courses-for-$29 option - otherwise it might end up being a little pricey but still worth it I think."

"A decent experience overall, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was intriguing, but was trying to hard to be "super-trendy." The wait staff, while very attentive, rushed things a bit, though half the seats were empty. As for the food, at least the sushi was a bit overpriced for a somewhat underwhelming gastronomic experience. I'll likely give it another shot, but with plenty of other places nearby to go for a romantic dinner, it'll probably be a while."

"My husband and I went here for our 7 year anniversary dinner and we loved it. It was very romantic with the fireplaces, chandeliers, waterfall and candles. Just what we were looking for! The food and wine prices were very reasonable to. The only bad thing was the long wait for the main course but my husband and I didn't really mind because we were enjoying each other. Also, they had valet parking which was fantastic because it was 18 degrees the other night."

I miss the Chilean Sea Bass in miso sauce over braised oxtail - sometimes the chef will accomodate the miso sauce prep upon special request, sometimes not.
Service is always professional and attentive. Prices are reasonable."

"This was an outstanding experience. The restaurant is done mostly in white...walls, ceiling, tables, chairs...accompanied by lots of "fire and water"...lights and running waterfalls. The menu is what I would call "pan-Asian". We started with several sushi rolls and then selected their 3-course price-fixed menu. The menu offers many tasty options: Our starters included herb crusted lamb and a parmesean flan. Main dishes were scallops with pad thai noodles and hen of the woods mushrooms, fish and chips, and a beef tenderloin. We finished with a molten chocolate cake and ice cream. Overall, everything was done extremely well and very tasty, although the pad thai noodles were a bit bland. The wine list is excellent, but expensive."

"Ambiance is the best part of this vibe oriented fusion Asian menu. Great energy on a Saturday night. Excellent service, without being prying. "I love Oya & am a return patron, however this time was a lot noisier (Sat night 7:30), the beef main course was not up to their normal standards (the sea bass spring roll appetizer & molten chocolate dessert were excellent though). My diner mate and I also felt rushed. We were not even asked if we would like anything else after we were done w/ our meal but were instead just given the check.
