The comfortably elegant dining room provides a warm and relaxed setting, fitting for both a neighborhood favorite and a connoisseur’s destination.
"The service cannot be beat and the decor is very elegant & high end... definitely the place to go for a special occasion or to impress a date. However, at these prices, the food is not quite as special as I would have expected. All of it is executed fairly well but everything is priced about $5 - $10 above what it deserves. I suppose you're paying for the service and decor in with the food but still it's a bit much and I'd save this for a very special occasion."

"Eat in the city frequently Looked forward to excellent good dinner based on Zagat and the location in The Mark Hotel Crowded noisy uncomfortable attached banquette sofa, sitting in middle of cushions, seat moved every time neighbors changed position Maybe it was because it was a Thursday night? Famous chef influence absent Presentation of food terrible Plopped on plate. Food did not taste fresh.Chicken dry and salty Pasta not angelhair no taste Presented in tiny bowl, whoever heard of grated cheese in a gravy boat? In short either off night or trading on famous name Service was good, attentive and did the tight thing by talking awful entree off bill Good bar scene that's about it, sorry to be harsh but not a good experience"

"The oysters great, but the linguine and clams were tasteless. The presentation was terrible - served in a soup bowl? Looking like a bowl of ramen noodles. Sent it back as it had no flavour at all!"

"While I've been to The Mark many times over the recent years, regardless of the fact that my last visit was on a Saturday night, I was very surprised about the slow service in getting the evening started. Yes, the restautrant was quite busy, but we had to wait almost 15 minutes to flag down a waiter to get a wine list. Then, although promised that the Somelier would be over right away to answer a question, after another 20 mintues we gave up and just ordered one of the two choices of wine we were considering. Shortly after that, things got on a better track for ordering our dinner. However, based upon the five star prices, the service should be ten stars! Perhaps it was just a bad night. Food, however, was sensational!"

"Though it has a lively buzz, food is nothing special, wine list is not varied with limited California selection and all expensive. Lots of staff running about but not attentive. On balance very disappointing and not as good as Nougatine or Jean George spots."

"We booked a table in January at The Mark as a birthday celebration. We were seated at a table near the door and it was very drafty. Wait staff was inattentive. When we finally got the attention of a waiter, we asked to move our seats and they moved us to a table in the rear dining room, however, again they seated us at a table where there was a door behind us that led to the dining room in the front and they allowed the waitstaff to use this door, again letting in a cold draft. We decided to just put our coats over our shoulders and enjoy the evening. The food was mediocre, not the same standard as the Nougatine restaurant on Central Park West but the prices are about the same . We won't be dining at The Mark again."

"The service was terrible. While the restaurant was 50% occupied at breakfast and there was plentiful wait staff, we had to flag down servers for water, and again for coffee and again to take our order and again to refill the coffee cups and one more time to clean off the table. The manager and the wait staff was incredibly inattentive."

"We went to The Mark several months ago and had a wonderful evening.... beautiful, happening bar and very comfortable, elegant but energetic dining room with good decibel level (which is rare these days). Now, on a Monday night there was not a seat at the bar and we could barely get by the phalanyx of hostesses and guests milling around the claustrophobic check-in area. In the past six months the menu has changed (not for the better)... A lot fewer small, tasty plates and appetizers and the entire menu seems to have been downsized and the prices upsized. We had a terrible waiter who was just never around, but the maître d was helpful; the wine list was very $$$ but the cocktails were yummy."

"For a restaurant this expensive the service and ambience were somewhat underwhelming. And the noise level was unsuited for conversation with table mates. At these prices there are many, more desirable options."

"For a Jean-Georges restaurant and for the prices, we were all not very impressed! The best part of the meal was our cucumber mint martin which was yummy and the souffle for dessert! We wanted to love it but it fell short in many ways."

"Service was not as coordinated or sophisticated as usual. My husband had to request iced tea three times before it came. It was difficult to understand our waiter's accent. the waiter was vague when we asked for guidance, he seemed inexperienced and lacking enthusiasm about the various dishes. Other staff removed our plates while we were still drinking our coffee. The food is superb: the service should match the food."

"We dined here on our first night in New York, for this visit, and were delighted with our choice. The service, food and vibe of the restaurant suited us very well. I chose oysters to commence my dinner and found them deliciously fresh, my husband chose linguini with clams which he raved about. For my main I chose the lamb chops which were full of flavour as were the mushrooms which accompanied them, my husband chose the Maine lobster which again he enjoyed very much. We both had the divine souffle for dessert. Fabulous food. Highly recommended."

"I wrote a letter twice to the restaurant and never received even the courtesy of a reply. Planned a very special night for my husbands sixtyth birthday and was assured a nice table. The table was squeezed in by the bar and the upon request was moved a half hour later by the station where the food was coming out. We stayed there because I had reserved a limo for the night, the food was wonderful but the atmosphere was not pleasant, the computers were down and people were complaining all around us. It took hours to finish and receive the check, and was not given the service I was assured for my husbands special birthday. Again I tried to reach the Mark through emails without a response. Just wanted some acknowledgement ."

"I have been the Mark many times and it continues to disappoint. While food is actually generally good (wine is overpriced) the service is absolutely terrible. Multiple times, I have had to ask for a better table up front because they try to put people in corner tables when tables in the middle are empty. Someone checking in right after me asked 'if they wanted to put her in the kitchen' based on the terrible table they offered her. Bad service extends beyond that as well. It continues to be spotty and it's not clear why the restaurant cannot fix this. I am not going back. Ever."

"The food was excellent, and our waiter (Kwan) was the most knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and helpful we have had at any restaurant in NYC. We took all his suggestions for wine and food and were very happy with his choices. We have dined there many times for lunch, but this was our first time for dinner. We will return!"

"This is the perfect spot for Sunday brunch...from the minute we entered the diningroom, we were treated like guests - hungry guests who salivated over the quintessential Eggs Benedict and, for my always hungry husband, an outstanding cheeseburger which he commented was spot on "medium rare." Professional, friendly staff - obviously well-trained - who checked on us just enough. Although we were full up and hadn't planned on ordering dessert, the waitress' description of Butterscotch Pudding made it impossible to resist. Let me tell you, this bears no resemblance to Jello pudding of our youth, and the calorie count (with creme fraiche and caramel layers) took this course over-the- top! No wonder Jean-Georges remains at the top of the heap!"

"Came in late after a concert. What a pleasure being served that late as if the night was just starting over again. We went easy, ordering the fantastic burgers and cocktails. Couldn't ask for anything better... As a frequent customer it rarely disappoints me. Keep up the good job!"

"pleasant and had been there before but I ordered eggs and a bottle of water, and my husband also had an eggs and two bloody mary's and that was it and the bill came to 111 dollars with tax and tip.
My conclusion was that I won't go there again and would rather pay more for a better dining experience and perhaps go to more modest brunches...i had the egg white omelet about a month ago and it was prepared slightly better..while the servers were pleasant they accidentally hit me in the head with an elbow twice when i was sitting on the isle!..The atrium room with the skylight was pleasant. I would certainly go back if someone else paid1"

"The food was a very mixed bag. I ordered a frisee salad that was far too vinegary, and I like things vinegary. My main course was roast chicken...and it was inedible. Dry, tasteless. I sent it back, something I rarely do. Instead, I ate asparagus, which I had ordered for the table. It was delicious. I didn't order dessert, but the house sent a plate of cookies. They were just so- so. Overkall, a very disappointing food experience. But the service was good."

"If you want a great meal, to be treated poorly and pay a lot for the experience this is the place for you. Upon arriving at 6:30 to a nearly empty dining room I was seated at a table next to one of the few occupied tables that had a screaming baby. Immediately I requested a change of venue. After waiting for 5 minutes for a discussion to be had with the host, I was moved from the table clothed tables to the casual bar area and seated next to the waiters' station. Okay-I can handle it. But having to wait 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge me and take my cocktail order was unacceptable. After 3 courses, they still never got the right dish to the correct diner. For a $600 tab I expect way better!"

"Food was excellent - service was terrible. Arrived at 1 - ordered a pastry basket at 1:30 - received the pastry basket, our appetizer and entrees all at 2:00 PM. Ordered brunch cocktails on arrival, never asked if we wanted to order anything else from the bar. Had to repeated ask for water refills. Never asked about dessert or even shown a dessert menu. Seats in the bar area of the restaurant are remarkably uncomfortable. You can't sit back in them. Finally figured out they work if you sit sideways. Overall surprisingly poor service for a restaurant of this reputation."

"Really enjoyed our meal. Even on Saturday night and in a long banquette, the noise was only moderate. We happened to have some friendly diners sitting next to us, so had we wanted a private conversation, we might have been disappointed. That said, the food was excellent, simply but well prepared and the service well-paced."

"Three of us had delicious meals, ordered from the menu. But the dover sole was overcooked and lacking in flavor. Their bread selection is limited and very sparsely delivered. The rhubarb tarte tasted more like butter than rhubarb. Not the consistently great food from Jean-Georges that we expect when dining in restaurant with his name."

"We have booked a table to celebrate my husband's birthday. Without any notice a special dessert was prepared, but this was without any upfront information with myself. If you want to be a star restaurant you also need to make sure your standards are accordingly. In Europe the restaurant would be rated very average."

"The food was mediocre at best I was shocked given that we often dine at Jean-Georges' restaurant at the St Regis in Miami. The food there is superb but the food at the Mark was terrible especially given the price point. Would not return there. The service though was very good. The staff were friendly and efficient."
