"This visit was very good - just shy of great. Half-chicken and green bean salad continue to be excellent. The escargots were good, but not up to my past experience. The duck leg confit was not very interesting. Desserts consistently very good."

Review 2 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"My guest's quiche was competent but not special in any way. My gravlax portion was skimpy but the quality was acceptable. A nice crusty piece of an excellent baguette was served with the fish. Wine portions were small (perhaps 2.5 ounces) and expensive. A simple lunch for two with wine and a bottle of still water was nearly $100 including tip."

Review 4 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"Started and stayed bad being seated next to a very noisy group of 20-somethings even though the host could plainly see are seniors who would not appreciate the rowdy behavior of the group - and yes there were other tables for 2 in quieter spots but we wernet given a chance. The real problem was the food for such a highly renouned establishment- where we had very much enjoyed eating in past but not for several years.

My wife's fish was way over cooked- she said it tasted OK but a poor presentation at best and the vegies cold and very underdone, to call them tender -crisp would be a mistake, raw is more like it. I ordered cassoulet but what came was so unlike the savory and wonderful cassoulet I have had in France(cont. below)

Review 7 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Truly spectacular! The chicken and potatoes dish held up to similar dishes we had in top restaurants in France on a recent trip! The waitress was very helpul... and pointed me to a great wine pairing with my beef dish. The pricing was in line with the quality of the food.

If there were any negatives it was dessert. Nothing was bad... it just wasn't as spectacularly great as the main course. I couldn't see the same care and choice of flavors like I was hoping for.

All in all: a really great find and highly recommended!

Review 8 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I have been to Cafe Campagne several times and although I've enjoyed it on every occasion, this past Saturday evening was my favorite food occassion for the cafe. I wish my friend and I weren't in as much of a push to get in and out in roughly 1 hr./15 min. because I would have loved to have stayed longer to enjoy the restaurant, have dessert and coffee rather than having to rush off to the symphony (though that was very good, too)!

My favorite part of the evening, as reflected in my ratings, was the food. My steak with fries reminded of my favorite meal in the one time I'd been to Paris. Salad? Wonderful, not too much dressing and tasty. Steak? Perfect "med/med rare." Fries? EXACTLY crisp but not burnt! Aoili:Very good

Review 9 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Nice experience although made reservations a little over a month before Valentine's Day and requested warm table expecting to get a table in back room, instead got a table across from bar, noisy, cramped and drafty. Disappointed with table, unable to change to back room as requested. Food was good despite this."

Review 10 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food was wonderful. We had oysters on the half shell, fresh and tasty, well presented.I had the calamari provencal and it was delicious. The steak and frites, was very good and the roasted duck was memorable. The creme brule and the chocolate mousse cake were, a delight. The only improvement we would recommend is it would be pleasent if the meal was served in a more timely manner. Having said that, our waiter did a fine job.It was a very enjoyable meal."

Review 11 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"A French Bistro - quite enjoyable. Dinner was good, love the trout, dessert delicious. Romantic when the lights are down and seated towards the back. Alas, the waitperson was not up to the usual delightful standard - not very attentive, an air of distain, perhaps he is new. Overall, a good choice.

Also, love les petites plates for happy hour. Could be a nice early dinner.

Review 13 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I had been to Cafe Campagne a few times last year so I dropped a spontaneity bomb on my partner and suggested we go out on a Monday. There were plenty of tables available via OpenTable so we took the plunge and made a 730p rez. Once there, it was more crowded than I anticipated; no big deal since, hey, it's a recession and everyone needs business. We took a table in a corner. Service was fairly swift but it took about 20 minutes for any bread to get to the table. It showed up after the appetizer so a little out of order. I ordered the Steak frites which was nothing special. Although cooked at medium, my steak was a bit dry and flavorless. My partner ordered the cassoulet which is consistently good. Just wish service was a little snappier."

Review 15 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We're always surprised at how much we enjoy Cafe Campagne. The formula is very simple but it works perfectly. The one and only caution is that the food is cooked carefully and you will have time between courses to relax. No one rushes you through. You might be frustrated if you're in a hurry. SO relax. Brunch is perfect because you can enjoy their Cafe Vita coffee while you wake up with baguette and confiture. Plates are perfect size and the servers are attentive without hovering over you."

Review 16 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"What was wonderful about Cafe Campagne was the immediate ambiance, the feeling of subtle class, the genuine interest and friendliness of the staff, the promptness in service, the excellence of every food choice, the absence of after-burn, and being considered a valued guest...."what a concept". The reservation (best table for a special occasion) arrangements, flowers on table requested, was just what was requested.... "what a concept". and "what a joy"."

Review 17 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Cafe Campagne clearly states its' intentions the moment the door is opened. The hostess greets each guest without pretention as does the simple decor. The restaurant provides a calm setting allowing the diner to focus on the food & their companions, the true purpose of a night out.

Campagne focuses on mainstream french cuisine, succeeding in providing precisely prepared standards. The salads and appetizers were presented well but without unnecessary drama seen at upper scale estabs.

Portions generous to a fault. Warm salads were filling & easily made a meal.

Service was very capable, knowledgeable, friendly, not overbearing. Recommendations were spot on.

French wines by the glass.

Be staple if we lived in Seattle!

Review 23 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"This is the third French restaurant I've been to in Seattle, and it definitely held it's own. The service was excellent, which always improves the overall experience. The food was delicious and very rich. The only moderating factor was that the food was a shade heavier then other French food I've had. That said I definitely walked away with a smile on my face. Furthermore, the prices, compared to other local French restaurants, were extremely reasonable. I will definitely go to this eatery again, though I will probably order a bit less food next time. I can't wait to try to the steak tartar, which came highly recommended."

Review 25 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I have gone to both the cafe and restaurant many of times over the years. That evening I was taking friends visiting from San Francisco (the foodie place of the nation if I have ever seen one) and wanted to impress upon them that Seattle too had a little bit of Paris bistro style and food. This is the first time I have gone to the cafe when the food was very disappointing. Three of us ordered the steak and frites and the steaks were not the usual cuts, dry and ropey and the frites were overfried in old oil. (or so it tasted like that) The trout was good and so was the wine selection. The baguettes are still like nothing that can be found in Seattle except for Le Pichet. I will be reluctant to wholeheartedly recommend the place again"

"Cafe Campagne is a wonderful Paris bistro in the heart of Seattle. Food is superb and the waitstaff is highly professional, but more than this--the place is fun. Diving in from outside it's a warm safe port--a great spot not far removed from the bustle of the famous Pike Place Market but a world away. The Steak Frites are the best in town. We went for my birthday, but it's also great for any occasion--or just the occasion of a great french meal. Love this place."

"great place for new years eve. unfortunately altho made reserves on open table weeks ago was seated in a 2 seater facing the door. hoards of people, windy rainy nite whenever it opened. still we tried to build a "cone of protection' around our table and really enjoyed the wonderful duck confit, crab salad and the authentic onion soup. terrific chef, lovely place would go back but would have a discussion re the seating."

Review 37 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Really nice experience. The brioche bread they use in everything is to die for. I tried their signature dish at our brunch - oeufs meurette. I found the combination of red wine vinegar and poached eggs not really to my liking. I'm sure they did the dish perfectly - just turned out to be not my thing. Everyone else at our table loved their dishes."

"Great waiter. Lukewarm squash not good. My fish was excellent- but my wife's was cool- and 1/2 was mushy and pink-ish. Not good. It seemed the 45 minute wait for entree (waiter apologized, made chef serve us) let the food cool off too much. Not good."

Review 42 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Cafe Campagne is our go-to spot for great French food in Seattle. The wines are universally outstanding, and the cheese plate, while not the greatest in town, is a consistantly high quality starter with a wonderful mix of brie, blue, and a firm goats milk. For main dinner courses, you can't go wrong with the Steak Frites, Duck Confit, Trout Almondine, and, when in season, the Cassoulet, served in a well used Le Creuset pot and spooned out onto your dish in all it's fragrant glory.

Service is also amazingly polite and attentive. Waiters and waitresses may be chatty or quiet, but they're always friendly and willing to make you happy.

Review 43 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Coming in from the cold and wet weather to a welcome atmosphere and hot cassoulet was like coming home! The service was quick and helpful. One never felt rushed or dumb for being wine neophytes. The wine by the glass was very reasonalbly priced. The steak frites was a little tough. The goat cheese, carmelized onion, and bacon tart was a tasty starter and the pear ginger clafoutis was the perfect end."

"Cafe Campagne is a wonderful place. We had a three-hour dinner and it was well worth making the reservation as folks were getting turned down frequently when asking for a table. If you're looking for a French bistro, Cafe Campagne is perfect. Everything that we had was very French and fantastic."

"We love Cafe Campagne. BUT, some suggestions: more help/advice from the waitstaff about food portions, we ordered too much food. Noise in the back room was DEAFENING, the 4 of us could at times not hear each other's conversation MAYBE some curtains or other sound buffer would help back there."

"The food here never disappoints. The beef tarte tarte is the best I've had in Seattle. The Duck Confit is also a very nice dish. This is a great place to go for a date night or special occasion. In my opinon, I like Cafe Capagne better then its sister restaurant, Campagne upstairs."

Review 50 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"We sat at the bar before our guests arrived and commented that we should do that more often - there was just a lovely feeling about it.

Note: In the web paragraph about Cafe Campagne, there is a reference to Ernest Hemingway - but Hemingway is not spelled correctly - there are not 2 m's in Hemingway. Just thought you might like to correct it.

Review 52 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Cafe Campagne has a wonderful French feel, and when you walk in from a chilly day, the warm aromas are irresistible. I made an OpenTable reservation asking for a particular table on a busy day, and I got exactly the table I requested. The waitstaff showed just the right level of attentiveness: quietly there when I needed them, but not hovering or "yappy". The cassoulet is something very special...served in beautiful heavy cast-iron pots with patina, it just makes one happy. Overall, one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle."

Review 54 for Cafe Campagne

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"As always, Cafe Campagne never disappoints. I have the duck confit practically every time I go, it's so good. The only menu item that I don't think is outstanding is the escargot; it's relatively bland, not very garlicky and overall boring. All the other dishes more than make up for that, however. I highly recommend this restaurant to both foodies and more casual diners alike."
