"The four of us enjoyed our food despite being somewhat ignored by our waiter. We were seated by the wait station & kitchen. It seemed that 3 middle aged women and a young teenager were not the guests that the restaurant wanted to be seated in a prime location. I would recommend this restaurant to 20something!"

"The service was spectacular- this was the day before Mother's Day and the waiter brought a rose to my aunt. It was so sweet. We absolutely adore the food. The bar also make a perfect Negroni, which is hard to find. We will keep coming back! This is by far our favorite place."

"The food was superb, the wine too, however, we were seated immediately, very few people in the restaurant but we went unnoticed for at least 15 minutes. I finally had to get up and remind them we had been waiting that long. They did send a waiter immediately, who appologized and our service was good thereafter. Prices are very high."

"I was meeting a friend which made the overall experience fair. The margarita was below average, small and expensive. We ordered pizza and it was disappointing. I ordered the Georgetown (white pizza, spinach, mushroom & italian sausage) nothing exotic and she the Napoli. Pizza crust should be crispy from crust to center. Both crusts were limp. The Georgetown was beyond limp, The spinach was soaking wet making the crust limp and soggy. I am not sure why it was important to cook the spinach before putting it on the pizza. Spinach does cook while the pizza is baking."

"We had an enjoyable time, good eggplant parmesan, good pasta in clam sauce. Gnocchi only so-so. Did not try the pizza, but it looked fantastic! Will go back to try that. While our waiter was excellent, the servers that delivered the food were not -- just carelessly plopping the plates askew and reaching across the table. Everyone at our table noticed. "We were told about the pizza at this place and it definitely lived up to expectations. I had a white pizza while my fiance had a red. We were both very pleased. We also ordered meatballs for an appetizer; they were pretty amazing.
The service was great. Our server recommended a perfect wine based on our preferences and was attentive, but not smothering.
The place is rather loud. It's more of a trendy spot than a romantic one. I would recommend making reservations."

"Somewhat disappointed - pizza's crust was soggy and food and drink were overpriced even for Georgetown. You can go get better pizza at a number of different places for almost half the price. No wine under $12 either though maybe they only serve really nice wines. Thought pizza was a speciality of theirs and although they had interesting combinations it was overall a disapointment."

"Salad was so fresh, and delicious!!! As was the pizza. Waiter was great, very pleasant staff all the way around. Would go again if I'm back in Georgetown. Get reservations ahead of time!"

"The first time we went to Il Canale was because friends raved about the the pizza, which is very good, especially the dough. But with so many good pizza places closer to home the real reason we keep coming back is the Melanzane Parmigiana, mussels, gnocchi and more. The service is slow at times, but always nice and helpful. Next time you're in Georgetown, check it out."

"The restaurant is far smaller and nowhere near as elegant as the pictures on their website would lead you to believe. It's cramped and there is not a distinct separation between the dining area downstairs and the kitchen/stove/front entrance. The food was pricey, bland, and unoffensive. The waiter was courteous but very slow with each drink and entree, and also took quite a while for a desert/coffee menu and the check. Overall, I was disappointed with the restaurant and would not recommend it."

"The saving grace of dinner was the wine - excellent. The two of us ordered pizzas - my dining partner summed up his experience with 'I've had better' and my crust was so soggy, I couldn't eat the center of the pizza. I'd rather have Papa John's, any day, over a pizza from Il Canale. Our server was almost too attentive. Our meals arrived literally 5 minutes after ordering - which makes you feel very rushed. Ambiance was good, lively but not too loud to have a conversation. In general, it's just an overrated, overpriced Georgetown spot."

"In 2010 my boyfriend & I were wandering around Georgetown wondering what to have for dinner. We stopped to read the menu at Il Canale and were approached by a man with an Italian accent, "if you want authentic Italian cuisine, you need to eat here". We figured, why not? To our sheer delight, Il Canale was truly beyond all expectations. Now, nearly 3 years later, it is our favorite restaurant. We come here our birthdays, valentine's day, anniversary... if its a special night out, 90% chance we're heading to Il Canale (which, btw, is about a 40 minute drive from our place in NOVA). The food is fresh & flavorful, perfect portions, the staff and ambiance is wonderful, and every time we go it's an overall spectacular experience. We highly recom"

"Went there for their authentic Italian pizza and we weren't disappointed! My wife lived in Italy during her youth and has searched for restaurants that make it the way she remembers. This is one of them. Also our waiter was attentive and very pleasant. Although we live 50 miles away, when in DC we will come back for their wonderful pizza and the very flavorful calzone"

"I went to Il Canale for Valentine's Day, and it was amazing. The waiters were very attentive, but not overbearing. Each table came with a rose, and they even made our pizza in the shape of a heart. The bruschetta was delicious, as was the Il Canale Pizza, and the panna cotta. Highly Recommended."

"My wife and I love pizza. Have eaten pizza all over the world. While visiting Georgetown we heard of this neighborhood pizza and Italian restaurant. When we first arrived it was quaint but certainly nothing fancy. My wife ordered the Vegetable pizza and I had the Margarita pizza. Have to tell you that after the hundreds of places we have eaten pizza around the world including NY and Italy, the pizza here was among the best we have ever eaten. It is tough to quantify whether it is the actual best because we have had other first rate pizza experiences and perhaps there is one place in Bellagio, Italy which we also thought was special, but I will say for all that are in town this is a must stop for the absolutely best pizza. Enjoy!"

"This is a fabulous restaurant. The Southern Italian fare is delicious and authentic. My husband's family is from the area near Solerno, and we feel like we've taken a mini-vacation to the home of his ancestors when we come to Il Canale. This was our first time to go on a Saturday night and it was super busy, but Rosalina saw to it that we were greeted and seated right away. The only problem-and we got over it-was the noise. There was a large group in one corner celebrating a birthday. While they were there, it was hard to hear ourselves talk. The best part of the evening was the dessert -- the Caprese Torte. It really did taste like the ones I've had in Naples and Capri! The best! Our waiter was outstanding!"
