"The food was absolutely wonderful! I had not been to Carolina's in a while and was pleasantly surprised! On the other hand, our sever was terrible. He was nice but just couldn't get the job done. Our drink order was wrong and when we called it to his attention, he apologized and went to get the correct drink...and then brought the wrong drink again! Unbelievable! Our appetizer arrived long after our meal was delivered. Last but no teast, there was absolute craziness at the table next to us. One drink spilled,then another, linens had to be changed...all due to a table that was not level. Made these customers feel terrible and it was not there fault.This same waiter never once apologized about the table, the disturbance...to anyone!"

"We went to Carolina's for Mother's Day brunch with our 2 young children. I couldn't believe how much they jacked up the prices for such tiny portions. My husband and I aren't huge eaters and we both left still hungry! Additionally, they charged us $10 for 3 pancakes for a 2 year old! It was expensive, the food was mediocre, service was fair, and we left hungry. We will definitely NOT ever be going back for brunch. Very disappointing!!! We usually go to Leaf for brunch and we will be sticking with our usual spot!"

"Service was the main issue. The delay waiting to order drinks was far too long and the delay waiting to order appetizers felt like forever. After that, the dinner was timed well and the food was delicious. Empty plates sat on the table for too long as well. Maybe our server was new or inexperienced but a better server would have made the evening better. The scallops as well as the clams appetizers were outstanding."

"Carolina's was recommended to friends who were visiting from out of town, and they were our hosts. The menu was extremely limited, which was a surprise. We ordered, and our order was botched. It took forever to get bread to the table, and longer for our meals--which could not be blamed by a full house--it was early in the evening and not busy. So when we received overcooked meat, burned buns on hamburgers, and mixed up orders, we knew that we'd never come back. This was very disappointing to say the least, and we'll never go back."

"My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed Carolina's brunch. I made the reservation as a surprise for her. We live out of state, but visit often. She'd seen the menu online and wanted to try the pancakes. I had a crab cake Benedict. Both of our meals were excellent. The service was friendly and prompt. The only reason I didn't rate the service higher was that our waiter never told us about the specials. We only knew about them from overhearing them from another table. I also had an excellent mimosa."

"Specialty cocktails were excellent. Wine list is adequate...for a restaurant with a significant emphasis on seafood, the white wine list beyond Chardonnay (...there really are great wines beyond Chardonnary) is very, very limited. The shrimp and grits was only adequate (in a town for which shrimp and grits is a "religious" experience)....the andouille tasted like polish sausage (really?). The soft shell crabs and sides were totally AWESOME! The crabs were perfectly cooked (and cleaned!) and the veggies were truly inspired. Definitely worth a try....just have shrimp and grits elsewhere. Our service was impeccable. Attentive but not overbearing...and great command of the menu."

"We went to Carolina's because we had a gift certificate to use at one of several restaurants. We are really glad that we chose Carolina's for lunch!
My grits with shrimp were great! By far the best that I had while in the South.
The dessert that I really didn't have room for was equally good - a pecan sauced ice cream confection that was unbelievable! I wish that I could remember the details, but it was several weeks ago.
The next time we visit Charleston we will definitely go to Carolina's for dinner. and, maybe for lunch, too!"

"I had heard such great things about this restaurant. So I was disappointed when we had poor service (we ended up having to pour our own wine, ask for bread, etc). I put the blame on the waiter most of all but he really did the restaurant a disservice. Perhaps because we were three women, we were targeted as poor tippers...a huge mistake to make! The place had lots of empty tables during the busiest time of the year. He never checked on us and it took forever to get our food. My meal was fine but hardly spectacular and my friends felt the same way. Not a place to return to or recommend."

"Lovely place, wonderful service but the kale salad was not good. The kale was not bruised or wilted so therefore tough. We had 5 ladies all with kale salad with shrimp. The 4 shrimp were excellent - we all left the kale. It tasted and looked as if it came right from a bag. This would be an amazing salad if the kaled had been lightly cooked. We did have a good time."

"What a marvelous surprise to find such a gem ion a quiet street in fabulous Charleston! The food was outstanding. Every dish we ordered was unique and creative and delicious. Everything from the fresh warm crusty bread to the delicious coffee. I always judge a restaurant by it's bread, scallops and coffee and they were all perfect. We enjoyed the food and service so much that we returned two days later for another meal (after canceling another reservation). Of course the food was amazing just like the first time. We told our server to tell Chef Jill Mathias to go on Iron Chef America - she is good enough to be a master.if you live in Charleston or plan to visit, go to Carolina's!"

"We ate out at nice Charleston restaurants for a week straight and Carolina's was the only one we ate at twice. The decor and atmosphere are really nice. The service was warm and attentive - the waiter even acknowledged our return later in the week. I had the tilefish one night. Never trying it before I was really impressed. The scallops are perfectly prepared and the pan roasted Keegan-Filion chicken was one of the most exceptional chicken dishes I have ever had. The bar is nice too and they know how to make some nice cocktails. With all of the well known restaurants in Charleston, this one seems highly underrated."

"The menu was small and towards the traditional end of the spectrum. I would not call any of the dishes as cutting edge or trendy, but they were all of good quality. The cocktail menu was definitely a highlight.
The group that I was with had a few special requests. The waiter didn't bat an eye at any of the order modifications. Carolina's seemed like a great place to take a date, or perhaps a larger group for a special occasion. The ambiance is more suited to a quiet night out."
