Parkside
Parkside, a gastro pub in Austin’s lively downtown area is home to chef/owner Shawn Cirkiel. Located directly on Sixth Street it offers a casual venue for his unpretentious, but bold take on New American Cuisine. Offerings include a sumptuous raw bar—which often carries as many as 16 varieties of oysters. While the menu changes seasonally—even daily--diners can enjoy both dramatic dishes like seared scallops with butternut puree, jalapeno, and lime or comfort basics such as a cheeseburger or fried egg sandwich.

"I dine out often and came to Austin to enjoy a nice little vacation while enjoying Rush's Concert. Came across Parkside and decided to give it a try. While reviews and location shows that this restaurant could to be pretty good, I truly believe that the chef kind of missed the point of cooking in order to feed people. The actual food was tasty, but portions were ridicously small, and I mean, SMALL. The food was a little Show Offish! This is not the cooking channel :) !! I'm not a big eater, but for the price they charge, I would prefer an extra 25% more food on my plate. Besides that, good joint, kinda alternative, but good. Our server, Karla, was truly amazing."

"I've been to Parkside a number of times before for happy hour, but never for a full dinner. It was pretty remarkable that we got seated at 10:15 (we wanted that late reservation) and still got flawless service. Had a half dozen raw oysters on the shell from various parts of North America to start and then my European sea bass dish with octopus and prawns was the perfect seafood follow-up. Solid wine and drink menu as well. Highly recommended, especially with the lack of classy and quality restaurants on E. 6th Street."

"Heard good things and was looking forward to trying it. Arrived and it wasn't very busy. Started with Caesar salad - average not a lot of flavor and mediocre dressing. Even though it was quiet, server came by to take my order, deliver salad, meal and check. That was it, never a check in or seeing it I needed anything. Had the NY steak. Cooked well. But presentation was lacking, as besides steak and cooked onion nothing else on the plate. I had to ask for the jalapeño sauce which is good.
It really wasn't bad, but definitely not great and not somewhere I would proactively recommend to others."

"Our reservation was not honored timely, we had to wait 25 minutes. that left us only 45 minutes to enjoy dinner. That limited us to one course and one glass of wine, but our server, Kyle, really made it happen. His wine knowledge was excellent and pours were generous. Food was really prepared well with distinctive flavors and excellent presentation. WE will definitely go back, and request Kyle for service."

"Parkside continues to be consistently good. In more than ten visits, I've never been disappointed, at least with the food. On this last visit, I had a terrific rabbit dish with green garlic spaetzle; I wasn't too sure about rabbit but I was in an adventurous mood, and it blew me away. The wine list is really nice, but prices tend to the high end- we got a great Oregon Pinot Gris at a very fair price.
The only knock is that it gets loud, making conversation difficult. The service can sometimes be a little bit uneven, however the food arrived quickly and we didn't have to wait too long between courses.
Parkside is one our go-to restaurants in Austin!"

"Parkside enjoys a great location on 6th Street and has very good service, but that's where the positives end. Their food is over priced and not very good.
I had a pork "blade steak" that was 1/3 bone, 1/3 gristle and 1/3 over cooked meat, that they attempted to hide under a pile of fixings. For $23 I expect more than five bites.
My wife had a ceasar salad that was a head of lettuce cleaved in quarters with a bit of dressing drizzled on top. Literally the least you could do. It would have cost $12 to add chicken to the $8 salad. Ridiculous.
Thankfully the wait staff was kind enough not to charge us for the "steak".
If you find yourself at Parkside, do yourself a favor and stick to the bar."

"A hidden gem of great food on the hustle and bustle of Sixth Street. Amazing, fresh and incredible selection of oysters. We shared multiple appetizers for a great meal. The crab fritters are suprisingly light and fluffy. "We had heard about the wonderful selection of oysters, and were not disappointed with a "chef's choice" combination of 3 different kinds (4 each). I had a beautifully done branzini as my main course. We were just visiting Austin, but when we do so again we will certainly pay another visit to Parkside. The neighborhood (6th Street) is also worth seeing for its tattoo parlors, bars and fine restaurants."

"gracias por tener un excelente espacio para degustar buenos alimentos y buenos vinos vinos, lo malo es la atención de las señoritas de la recepción porque no son nada amables y con malos gestos, estuve en el lugar el pasado sábado 16 de marzo y no me preguntaron si tenia reservación solo me pasaron a la mesa sin ninguna amabilidad, pero por el contrario la mesera que nos atendio muy amable y servicial (los felicito)."

"This was a fabulous restaurant -- a gem in the middle of SXSW madness and all that BBQ and great Tex-Mex and Mexican food. Delicious oysters on the half shell -- is 3 dozen too many? I think not. Wonderful wine. And, a beautiful evening above the fray on their rooftop dining spot as enormous crowds walked 6th Street. Definitely a keeper. Loved it. Everyone in our party loved it. The service was terrific also especially considering that everyone in that restaurant had to be operating on minimal sleep."

"Parkside continues to impress. I selected Parkside for my wife's B-Day dinner with 8 friends and Parkside knocked it out of the park. The drink orders were taken and served promptly (I had the Korean Spring #2 - best use of soju outside of Seoul), oysters were fresh, clean, and very tasty, salads/soups arrived at the right time (the beet salad was amazing), and everyone raved about their main courses (scallops were perfect and the wife had the bacon wrapped salmon - AWESOME!). Service was prompt, attentive, and very courteous. All of this while SXSW madness was going on outside and spilling into the restaurant.
Well done Parkside, well done. Thank you for staying one of my favorites in Austin."

"INCREDIBLE FOOD! Wide variety of eclectic offerings. We had several small plates and shared (had to have 2 orders of the blond pâté). Interrsting house cocktails and considering we were there during SXSW, the service was very good. Check this place out!"

"the food at Parkside is always excellent! we had oysters, the beet salad, lamb meatballs, and green garlic risotto. all were fantastic! if you have never been, try their version of a moscow mule too. great place to go if you are downtown but don't want greasy street food/pizza"

"Food was okay. The service seemed a little slow. Our dishes were warm at best when they arrived. I'm led to believe the dishes sat there for awhile before being brought out. I would highly recommend the gulf prawns. This was probably the best dish we had. The rest was jut average."

"Very interesting and clever menu. If, like me, you're not much for oysters, don't let the emphasis on raw oysters scare you away. There are any number of excellent choices on the menu that don't involve oysters. We had ceviche, scallops, salmon, brussels sprouts, asparagus, and the basil ice cream dessert. Everything was outstanding. Our server, Steffi from Germany, could not possibly have been any more helpful, enthusiastic or friendly. Curiously, however, the service was kind of slow, but I'm confident that that was not Steffi's fault. I'm grateful to see anything on 6th Street that's not horribly cheesy and/or a chain, especially if it's an excellent, authentic, creative, world-class restaurant like Parkside."
