Roaring Fork-Downtown, Congress
The Roaring Fork offers bold American wood-fire cooking with fine dining atmosphere. We serve dinner nightly starting at 5pm and Happy Hour daily from 4pm - 7pm in our bar and lounge area only. Sorry, no reservations for Happy Hour. Our bar and lounge is always open seating. We also serve lunch Monday through Friday starting at 11am. Reservations are always recommended for both, lunch and dinner. Thank you for your interest and we hope to serve you soon.

"Service and food were outstanding - we both had different specials of the night. Server heard it was my birthday from an offhand comment from my girlfriend and had a complimentary appetizer sample brought to us and dessert was on the house.
Not in my typical dinner out price range but I would go back again for a special occasion in a heartbeat (particularly of the Filet Mignon special w/Jack Daniels demi-glaze with mushrooms & horseradish mashed potatoes is up that night!)"

"Ever had one of those dining experiences where everything was done adequately and by the book, yet you could just tell that your server was not interested in whether or ,not you had a good experience? She was just working the tip and doing a lame job of it too. Restaurant was about 50% full. Steak was average and 34$. It may not be indicative of this restaurant overall, But the service here will likely keep me away."

"I had the 8 ounce filet mignon cooked medium and it was perfect - tender, juicy, and delicious! The grilled asparagus and zucchini were also wonderful. They were able to easily meet my special requests regarding the preparation of the food which I really appreciated. I'll definitely be back as soon as I can - great experience!"

"Our waiter took about 10 minutes to come over to our table when we were initially seated. When he finally came over, he stood at the table and said "So." And waited for us to say something. That was the way he continued the rest of the evening. No greeting no introduction just awkwardness everytime he came to the table. I also ordered a drink from the bar and about 10 minutes later the manager had to bring it out because the waiter still had not. When the drink finally made it to the table it was watered down from having sat so long. The food was amazing but the service left a lot to be desired."

"Roaring Fork is a nice restaurant and is very convenient for dinner before a show at the Paramount Theater next door. My only problem with it is that I am a vegetarian and while they do a decent job of trying to accommodate the needs of non-meat eaters, their vegetarian options are few, and frankly, rather unimaginative. I was offered a plate of grilled veggies (nice ones, asparagus and portobello mushroom, with a nice presentation), not on the menu, but available. While the veggies tasted very nice, I must say that such a dish just shows an incredible lack of imagination on the part of the chef. There are all sorts of great vegetarian dishes that can be made with little fuss or expense. I say, let's try something different, Roaring Fork!"

"We had a 9 p.m. ~ ish reservation on a Thursday night...and, although there were several other tables, the waiter kept telling us that the chef was trying to close the kitchen. Not in a direct way, but more like, "...are you going to order appetizers and an entree? I just need to notify the kitchen..." or "are you going to want dessert because the chef is trying to close up"...really!?
At any rate, thankfully the fatigued chef did stay around long enough to prepare a quite delish Pork Chop...Also, the Asparagus and Mashed Potatoes were yummy...
We forgo dessert...
The waiter was also a teeny bit slow in refilling our glasses and I asked for a second glass of wine that arrived AFTER we had finished dinner?!"

"Decided to visit Roaring Fork for my husband's birthday. The theme is "western frontier". We happened to visit on prom night so the ambiance was likely quite different from normal with many large groups of teenagers in attendance. My husband ordered the daily special ribeye with truffle oil- it was perfectly cooked and seasoned and absolutely delicious. The green chile mac and cheese was a perfect side. I ordered the house special halibut with crab which was not nearly as divine as the steak though surprisingly almost just as expensive. The overall atmosphere is not "Austin eccentric" It's really just like any other fine steakhouse but we will probably go back - likely will call ahead first and make sure the ribeye is on the menu. Yum."

"I took my wife and mother to RF Sunday for Mother's Day. It was fantastic! Service was attentive, food was wonderful and atmosphere easy to carry a conversation. Bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin and short ribs were incredible. THey were out of lamb which my father wanted, but he was happy with the short ribs. Great experience!"

"I was not impressed with the food for the price... I've eaten at lots of places down town so I guess my expectations were high. For 20.00 or higher a plate, I expect the food to be good as well as the portion size. My husband ordered the braised short ribs... VERY small portions! I ended up having to share my food with him because he was starving!!! When we pay good money for food, I don't feel quite right if we leave hungry. I wouldn't go back and I would not recommend it to my friends."

"Initial impressions were good with a good set of choices on the menu. We also felt very welcome. We chose a special of halibut with chipotle sauce. The fish was beautifully cooked and presented, but totally overpowered by the chipotle. Following this we waited, and waited... Over fifteen minutes to be offered a dessert menu or coffee. Nothing. When we finally could get the waitress over, we just asked for the check. Maybe just on off night for them, but we will not return."

"Disappointed -- On a several day trip to Austin, every meal of every description had been wonderful...until we dined here. The evening's special "steak" turned out to be slices of over-marinated or tenderized beef on very overcooked vegetables. Really disappointing. Another special the waiter recommended was Ribs -- my guest was served a plate with a giant rack of ribs hanging over the edge of the plate. Only after we overheard another server asking a patron if they preferred the half or whole did we realize we should have been offered a choice. I would never recommend this restaurant or return on future travels to Austin. Ambience nice but quality and price for what was served were not appropriate."

"You can always depend on the high quality of the food and the fantastic experience at Roaring Fork. We had some outstanding steaks and the side dishes are perfect. Both the downtown and Braker locations in Austin are great. Enjoying the romantic feel or sit in the bar area for a little more lively experience with TVs for the game.
Great for a special occasion or to entertain business clients.
If you have not been to Roaring Fork you are missing one of the best meals in Austin."

"This is a great restaurant in a great location. I was with my best friend and both of our fathers. So my only complaint is that my friend got her steak overcooked and my dad got his white wine unchilled. But I believe this might've been a one-time thing. My dad and I both got the halibut special and it was delicious!"

"Food couldn't have been better. Waiter was very attentive. Only issue was took about 30-35 minutes to get our food after we ordered. It was worth it and we weren't in a hurry. But if you're in a rush you might consider somewhere else. Everything we ordered was delicious though."

"My experience was overall very good. The food was excellent, as was the service. I had the rainbow trout, and my daughter had the salmon. Both came out timely and still hot. My only two complaints would be the the close proximity of tables, and wine selection. The severes were bumping into my daughter's chair while serving the neighbouring table behind us. Additionally, (I am average in size, and) the table to our side was so close that it was a tight squeeze for me to get to the bench seat against the wall, creating quite an awkward entrance and exit from the table. I also felt the wine selections were limited, and the choices were mostly of a lower quality, bought in the store for $10-15/ bottle, at $8 or $9 per glass at your restaurant."
