Rita Sodi grew up on a little farm North of Florence, Italy, and almost everything her family ate was made from the farm, prosciutto, salame, wine, vegetables…and this food was very important for the family. They were not allowed to miss any meal. Rita's mother, Elena, always told her to drink wine because it “makes good blood” and do not eat Prosciutto without bread. When she finished art school she began to travel for my work in the clothing business and at that point she really started to appreciate the simplicity of her mother's food and the way she cooked. For ten years she traveled from Florence, Italy to New York, Los Angeles, Asia and Australia. Year after year, wherever in the world Rita found a kitchen, she began to cooked my Mother's food. Friends filled her kitchen and sat at her table, her passion was born.
"Our second time at I Sodi was as good as the first. Our waiter, Chris, was personable and knowledgeable and helped make the experience extra enjoyable. Four of us shared an antipasto which was the perfect size at Chris' suggestion. The meats & cheeses were fresh and delicious. We shared pastas for the main course and added the special canolli beans as well. The lasagna tasted exactly like that in Italy; nothing like the red sauce creation we have here. The spaghetti with black pepper was outstanding as was the ravioli with sage and butter. We had these two dishes before and loved them as much the second time. Risotto was tasty and perfect texture. Orange tart was good but so tiny! Wine was delicious. Service was impeccable. A winner!"

"The artichoke lasagna was a dream come true. The slimmest layer of pasta I've ever seen. We had also the spaghettini with pepper and for main dishes, the new york strip and the rabbit. All of the dishes were exquisite, and dinner was one of the best."

"A much younger friend of ours who knows the NYC scene pretty well recommended this restaurant. AS we were staying in the area it made sense to try it but given it small capacity, it was difficult to get a booking. The Cacio & Pepe can be recommende and the Carpaccio Manzo. Despite the range fo drinks at the bar, they couldn't provide a Belini and we had to ask a couple of times for our Kir Royale before it appeared. Overall an ok place but more neighbourbood rather than destination"

"True Italian and cosy. Heard about I Sodi from a food editor and tried to get a table my last trip. Not the easiest task as it´s popular. You need to book in advance, if you're aiming at 7 pm for dinner. This time I made a reservation before my trip. I was the first guest at 5,30, but not for long. The place filled up quickly with locals and small groups of people who enjoy this little pearl in West Village. The service from our Swedish waiter (funny enough since I'm from Sweden) was excellent and I could see that he was equally attentive to his other guests. We had two delicious pasta dishes, with fried artichoke and great wine. Very nice atmosphere and it´s easy to understand why regulars keep coming back. I will be back also next time!"

"I would have rated this solid "good" had we not been chased from our table when the second seating came up. We had an early seating and went past our allotted time window. There wasn't even a classy "could we offer you dessert at the bar?" approach; it was "time's up, move to the bar". I have to admit that we were warned about the second seating upfront, but I've very seldom had it applied and in this instance, it has never been so rudely applied. The food was good, but there are lots of good Italian restaurants in NYC, so I'd only go if you had a late seating. Then you may have an opportunity for a nicer evening than I experienced. (Note: I rated the service "good" as our waiter did a good job while we had him...)."

"Charm of a restaurant, with few tables, eat at the bar for a treat. Ravioli with butter and sage super, steak tartare excellent and well prepared. Broiled chicken under a brick delicious. Excellent drinks and wine. Adam and Raymond bartenders sweet and attentive. Can't beat the food, reservations a must."

"We've eaten at I Sodi several times now, and have never been anything except very pleased. A very thoughtfully put together and sophisticated menu, and without exception everything we've eaten has been more than just very good.
Just terrific."

"Make this friday night reservation 3 weeks ahead of time because they are pretty booked. Walked in to hear they "double booked" and we would have at least a half hour wait. We were offered a drink on them at the bar, that never happened. The waitress had a bad attitude with us the rest of the night bc she knew I wasnt thrilled with having to wait sooo long. Decor is lacking,The food was pretty good, but it wasnt worth a 3 wk and 45 min night of wait. In NYC you can get really great italian without all the negatives."

"unique dishes (shaved artichoke salad) and fresh pasta make i sodi worth trying. though the pasta is fresh and in itself is delicious, a half portion is plenty. unfortunately, the toppings overpowered the dish and seemed to not fit with the pasta (way too much butter and cheese on the ravioli, and the spaghetti with pepper needed less pepper as it took from the flavor of the pasta)."

"We were 10 minutes late to our 7pm reservation and they gave our table away. We had to wait 30 minutes to be seated at the very cramped bar. If you're not a local the servers ignore you. Nice way to spend a birthday."

"I always liked I Sodi and was never disappointed before. This time the food was not as good as I recalled, my Tagliatelle with cipolla were overcooked and so was the lasagna that my dining companion ordered. Service attentive as usual. I blamed it on the fact that it was Saturday, never the best night for restaurants."

"The food was utter perfection in its simplicity. The artichoke salad and cannellini beans for starters were divine, so few ingredients, but done so beautifully. Our main dishes were consumed with delight in the flavors of every bite! The spinach and ricotta ravioli was flawlessly done, the butter sage sauce was the perfect compliment, and the spaghetti with pepper sauce and pecorino cheese was impeccable. The feel of the place was very elegant (the marble and dark wood), yet with an approachable homemade kitchen feel to it. The service was timely and efficient, yet not overly friendly or helpful, I don't appreciate the feeling that I'm bothering the waiter when I ask for something. The price was excellent for the quality of the food."

"ExtraordinAry Italiaan in Geenwich Village. The room is small and cramped, but ultimately comfortable. Each dish that comes out the kitchen is excellent. The pastas were great, as we're the meat dishes. I do not particularly enjoy vegetables. But I would go back just for the peas. I do not know what they do different to a green pea, but it is absolutely delicious. The service is extremely friendly and surprisingly efficient, given the tight space they have to work with. We will be back--if we can get back in."

"The preparations and flavors at I Sodi are clean and focused. The branzino was very fresh and simple, beautifully prepared in parchment paper and served with capers. The artichoke lasagna was delicious as well but lacked the depth or complexity of flavor to make it highly pleasurable and interesting past the first few bites. The slight excess of salt made it one note. We were happy we had ordered it as a shared first course. The brussel sprouts were creamy, the fried artichoke shredded too finely to leave any moist heart after frying; the large portion was entirely crispy and spiky. The _affogato al nocino_ was an enjoyable variation on the traditional _affogato al caffè_. Our waitress was very cold."

"Simply put, this is my favorite Italian restaurant in Manhattan. The food is exquisite (I lived in Italy, I can judge), and the warmth, intelligence and dignity of the waitstaff are unparalleled. Standout dishes: The cacio e pepe pasta, the artichoke lasagne, and the spinach. Go now, you won't be disappointed."

"One of my absolute favorite Italian spots in NYC. A little disappointed as we had 9:30 reservation for dinner, and called ahead to let them know we would be running late (I was coming in from a business trip and my flight was delayed 2+ hours!). Upon arrival to I Sodi (Exactly 15 minutes late) we were told we needed to wait. It seems they had given our table away! We had to wait 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. Very disappointing."

"When we arrived for our table we were 3 instead of 2. The hostess was so mean. She told us we would have to sit at the bar, even though there was a table right there. She was so mean, we left!!! I would never go back! When we walked out, two guys walked out with us and said they were treated rudely the whole time!"

"Although our table was not ready for 1/2 hr beyond our reservation, our experience at I Sodi was wonderful. The staff was very apologetic, treated us to Prosecco and made fresh lemonade for our son. Once seated, the food was delicious and the service attentive. This restaurant is a true gem."

"Great service and excellent homemade pasta! There was also a proposal at the table next to us, which is always a lovely. We went for a very early dinner - 6:00pm - and the restaurant was very quiet, as in there was no music. With only a few tables occupied, it was a little awkward and I felt like I needed to speak quietly. Shortly after, the place filled up, or the music was turned up and I didn't notice the quiet anymore.
Excellent home made pasta."

"Too noisy for my taste (hard to have a conversation with your dinner companion) but wonderful food beautifully served. I've spent a lot of time working in Florence over the last 20 years, and the food here tastes like 'home'."
