The award winning Ebbitt Room restaurant is nestled within the stylish Virginia Hotel on Jackson Street in the heart of Cape May's historic district. One of Cape May's most popular & famous restaurants, The Ebbitt Room serves inventive contemporary American cuisine from Chef Anthony Micari in a rich elegant setting designed by Colleen Bashaw Interior Designs of New York. In addition to its regular a la carte menu, The Ebbitt Room offers nightly pre fixe menu's showcasing the best of what each season has to offer. Their wine list, the recipient of numerous Wine Spectator awards features selections from all the major wine regions of the world with an emphasis on boutique & cult producers.
"They have changed the look at the Ebbitt Room. The bar is bigger, livelier. The pianist has moved to a roomier lounge. The dining room is less formal, more welcoming. Service is slick, savvy. And the food is outstanding, with chef Anthony Micari doing variations on some classics and creating new dishes. The emphasis is on farm-to-table, utilizing the bounty from their own nearby Plum Beach farm. Five of the nine main courses featured seafood, most of it harvested locally. The signature appetizer, deviled eggs with exotic toppings, has caught on. The wine list is extensive, perhaps too expensive. In a competitive restaurant scene, the modernized Ebbitt Room remains firmly in the top 5."

"Strong spices can overpower meat or fish. Only those who favor the unusual rather than traditional fare should go. Overpriced and pretentious selections. In all fairness, my wife enjoyed her food. Perhaps my food may have tasted better had we not been seated close to an intoxicated, loud and vulgar couple--at 5:30 in the afternoon!"

"The Ebbitt Room is my new favorite place to dine in Cape May! Service was wonderful and attentive and the food was to die for. Seriously, it was probably the best Filet Mignon I have ever had, tender and perfectly cooked and flavored to perfection. My husband ordered the bacon wrapped scallops, and he usually hates bacon but loved every bite of his dinner. The decor is dark and romantic and they had a piano player providing the background music for the restaurant and bar. This dinner was better than the Washington Inn because of the perfect service and romantic atmosphere. We will definitely be back!"

"My wife and I go back at least twice a year. Stop in early for a great glass of wine at the newly redesigned bar area and then have some of the best food in Cape May with some of the most knowledgable staff. When your done eating, hang out in the bar or any of the nearby couches to enjoy some great piano music. Highly recommended!!"

"Not much to say other than the Ebbitt Room is always tops. The best Manhatten around and food and service is always top shelf. I look forward to another visit to Cape May and an enjoyable evening at the Ebbitt Room"

"Our waiter was in training and was assisted by an experienced waiter when we were first seated. After that, he was on his own, and he was somewhat slow and forgetful. We ordered a second glass of wine, and we had to remind him about it when he served our entrees. However, the food was fantastic. The calamari appetizer was the best we have ever had, and the entrees were wonderful."

"We had not been back to the Ebbitt Room for a number of years. With a new chef in charge, we thought we would give it another try. Food was beautifully prepared and attractive. Service was attentive. The renovated room was more appealing than the old. The only problem was that the acoustics are still bad."

"First: the food and service are excellent. We had perfect scallops and halibut. However, if one wants a veg, it's extra, which seems a little mean at this price level. The decor is nicely done Cape May Victorian. The bar is in the same room and adds to the the very lively sound level. Overall, our dinner was a real treat with excellent food, service and drink, just beware the loud room."

"It is a beautiful room. The menu has always been current, somewhat trendy at times but there always seems to be something for everyone. Being located in Cape May there is usually local seafood and great Jersey produce on the menu. It is located in a beautiful refurbished Victorian Hotel and in walking distance to the promenade and mall for an after dinner stroll. and valet parking as well."

"We've been here many times over the years. Last year, it was hit or miss as far as food quality. This was our first time this year, but the food was outstanding. Everything cooked perfectly and such flavor. All the fruits and vegetables are from the Cape May Resort Group's private farm in West Cape May."

"First time dining at the Ebbit Room, heard it was a "must place to dine" when in Cape May. I am glad I made reservations 2 weeks in advance, the restaurant is rather small and cozy and was packed...and it was the off-season! Because of the small restaurant expect there to be a bit of noise, there were also large parties (6 top and 8 top) tables nearby which I am sure increased some of the noise. But this dinner was absolutely fantastic! Must eat here if you can get a table."

"I think the Ebbitt Room was short staffed when we visited- everything was slow, and our waitress was hard to find. There was something in my wine and I eventually had to get another staff member to take care of it. My dinner companion could not eat her soup, which was very salty. To their credit, they did take it off the bill. Of all the places we dined in Cape May this was the one that did not meet our expectations."

"After getting off to a slow start, service was warm and professional. These folks take pride in their food, as they should. Flounder was perfectly cooked; filet was one of the best ever, and the onions in reduced wine sauce that came with it were perfection, deep rich flavor that complemented the beef. Vegetables, sides and salads and garnishes, were fresh and delicious. A sweet potato casserole was spectacular, almost fluffy but full of flavor. We liked it all so much our first night that we came back for a second night, and were not disappointed. I would definitely recommend this place."

"The Ebbitt Room has old world charm with a modern menu featuring innovative preparation of staples such as appetizers of calamari with an Asian twist and deviled eggs prepared with unusual ingedients. Service was efficient without being overbearing. All in all, a great dining experience."

"The food was good, not great, my crab cakes were a little underdone and the greens were a little gritty and had tough stems. The eggs were good though. It's a pretty dining room, but the tables are placed so close together that we were practically dining with the people next to us! The service was slow and the wait staff stands between the tables, so we had the neighboring table's wait staff's backs just inches from our table."

"I live in the Greater Philadelphia Area, which means I can also make it to New York City easily. Hands down, the best dining experience I have had in the past 5 years. Food, service, ambience, was head and shoulders above any meal I have had recently. We will be back."

"This was my first visit and I will be going back when I'm in Cape May again. The bar offered great cocktails and small plate appetizers. Dinner was excellent. The food was fresh, creative and presented in a pleasing manner. The dining area is very elegant. I liked the dark colored walls with the dim lighting. The service was excellent. I would recommend to all my friends."

"Three times now. Loved the first time, but not the last two. Too long to wait with a ressie. Limited menu. Didn't like what I ordered. Really, overrated. Not about reputation, should be about seating people with a ressie in less than 35 minutes, a menu with more variety, food that is special, and not at best average, and when two people tell you it is a special occasion and you ignore them, you missed..."

"Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, wonderfully attentive service. I hate to even write something negative about this lovely restaurant but it's more of a warning. I would not recommend the flounder topped with crab imperial unless you're a big fan of pepper, which I'm not. I don't know if the cook was a little heavy handed or if that's the standard but it was quite "peppery". Other than that we loved our experience. The deviled eggs of the day were delicious and the portions are quite generous for a fine dining restaurant."

"We had a very enjoyable evening at the Ebbitt's Room. My heart was set on raw oysters, but they were out of them. Had Oysters Rockefeller instead. They were nicely done. My enters was swordfish, that was perfectly cooked and served with caponata. The best swordfish I've ever had. Classically decorated.and very good service."

"We haven't visited this restaurant in over a year, and at that time we had a lovely meal. During our recent visit we enjoyed mussels and trio of deviled egg appetizers but the entrees were a bit disappointing. My husband had flounder prepared with roasted cauliflower and tomatoes which was a bit salty. My dayboat swordfish was rare in the middle and over salted on the outside. When I asked the server to return the dish to the kitchen he reported that was how the chef prepared that fish. He never told me this when I ordered the entree, if he had I would have asked him to cook the fish to opaque in the middle. Service was uneven, no specials reported by our server, and he changed our room for the meal even though we left cash to pay the bill."

"We went to Ebbitt Room for Valentine's Day dinner. Food was delicious--four course prix fixe menu. Nice atmosphere, romantic as one would expect on Valentine's Day (2 men at 2 different tables proposed to their ladies while we were there!) Overall a great experience. My note for improvement would be that the tables were a bit too close together (but on a busy night I understand the owner's desire to have as many tables available as possible). With cost at $75 per person they could have offered a better champagne. We had a cocktail before arriving at restaurant so our only alcoholic beverage at dinner was the complimentary glass. We really enjoy champagne, but this one was mediocre at best."

"Food was very tasty, however portions were small and therefore overpriced. Drinks were small and pricey compared to many of the other fine eateries in Cape May. Foodies should try some of the other many fine Cape May restaurants where food is as tasty, with bigger portions and better drinks at a more reasonable price."

"I love the Ebbit Room, the food blows me and my wife away every time. The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect when dining out in luxury. I can't say enough. My server was also exceptional (Sean?). we had a short power outtage due to a storm and he was very grascious and accomidating. I will always return to the Ebbit romm when in the area."
