Located in the heart of Leaside, L'Avenue is an intimate 35 seat dinning room featuring French inspired cuisine of chef Jeremy Dyer. Lead by Owner/Sommelier Otta Zapotocky , previously from Nota Bene, L'Unita and Wildfire Steakhouse and previously on the West coast, places like Sooke Harbour House in Victoria, Araxi and Il Caminetto in Whistler, Five Sails at Pan Pacific in Vancouver. Their focus on seasonal and local ingredients inspired them to take a classic French cuisine and add a fresh flair to it by using local and fresher ingredients as well as presenting them in lighter and healthier way. Menu changes seasonally , but local favourites like Chicken a la Basque, French Onion Soup and Beef Bourgignon are always available.

"We went to L'Avenue on Valentine's Day. A first visit but definitely not our last. Food excellent with great attention to flavour. Wine list well designed with a good range. The restaurant was a bit cramped (extra tables for V Day)and it seemed that `regulars` attracted more attention and speedier service that `first timers`. Room is small, appropriately lit with rather boring tables and chairs. The innovative food deserves a more creative room design. I recently went to Mogette another recent arrival in the `hood. Food style was comparable and menu fairly similar although I would give Mogette a slight edge on ambiance and L`Avenue an edge on food. L`Avenue is very good value for money and the staff make it a great experience."

"It was the end of a snowy evening and obviously the staff was hoping to get home. It was difficult to get our waitresses attention even with only 3 occupied tables in the restaurant. Food was good as usual."

"aThis was my first visit to L'avenue and it was a very pleasant experience overall. The food (muscles, French onion soup, boeuf bourguignon) was very nice, service a bit on the slow side but friendly. My only other comment would have to be that the wine list is somewhat limited, particularly at the lower end. I certainly would return."

"We are always impressed with this Leaside bistro - hoping it doesn't get too popular!
Food is magnificent (fish, Chicken a la Basque, steak frites - oh those frites! and Creme brûlé to die for). We have enjoyed numerous visits and are pleased to be greeted by Otta and his friendly and knowledgeable staff. Last Saturday night was very busy and the service was a little rushed but overall good - we will return."

"The mushroom soup was outstanding, and though I found the selections a little on the sparse side for mains (ie one fish only)the food was beautifully prepared and very tasty. Enjoyed a glass of the house white, and the dessert (apple crumble....) was also a notch above the ordinary. lovely food, and the service was friendly and attentive."

"Suitably impressed as a quality local eatery. My wife & I have now dined there for lunch & dinner. Good menu & wine list variety; all dishes we had were well prepared; nicely presented; good taste; & represented fair & reasonable $$ value. "What a pleasant surprise to find such a charming and delicious resaurant so close to our hood. The buttermilk chicken was awesome. Also a wondeful tomato soup and one of the best onion soups I have ever had."
