"We stopped by for dinner before going to the Walnut Street Theater. It was so convenient that it is right around the corner from the theater! We sat in the bar area and had our 3 for 13 with drinks and then an entree. Very nice!"

"Spring brings my favorite, soft shell crabs, on stage to front and center. Looking for a restaurant that does them right is nearly impossible. Having large crabs that are pan fried and crispy but not overdone or mushy is a difficult task. But M does it right, and they come with a delicious dill cucumber salad that is crisp and refreshing. We all ordered them and loved them! They were by far the best crabs we have ever eaten, anywhere!!
Our business dinner was not only a night of amazing food but excellent service all around. Anthony was fabulous with his specialty cocktails and Tess was a lovely, attentive waitress. Can't wait to return when I do not have to entertain stuffy clients and can have fun in the garden with my friends!"

"The nicest place for outdoor dining in the city. A bit early in the season--but they had placed propane burners near tables to make it doable. Nice happy hour with drinks and snacks; good for lowering the cost a bit. Good service; not pretentious, and not teenager friendly either--just right. After a drink, we looked at the menu. We thought we would need to leave because there wasn't anything my almost vegan husband could eat. As we were thinking about moving on, the waiter came back and told us that the chef would make two custom courses for my husband. Both were lovely and bore no resemblance to anything on the menu. Clearly the chef likes to show off! What an unexpected treat. Perfect place to just relax or have a celebration dinner."

"Outstanding food. One of the most creative kitchens in the city. Delicious soft shell crab dish. Simple oyster plate with lemon was a hit. Delicious charcuterie plate. If only we did not have to wait so long for our dishes (did not plan on spending almost 3 hours at the table. This is definitely something management can and should correct to make M a top Philadelphia destination."

"We went to M for the first time to celebrate my wife's birthday. She always says it's hard to find a romantic restaurant and this definitely fit the bill. The food was phenomenal, specifically the Exotic Mushrooms and the John Dorry fish. Their menu consists of small plates so the chef recommends 3-4 per person. We ended up getting 4 each and all were delicious in their own ways. Definitely a must try, whether sitting in their candlelit dining room or on their garden patio."

"I have reviewed this restaurant several times before. We have visited on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed our dinners. I would like to remind any readers of this review that the weather is warming up and outside dining is a very special time at M. There is a lovely courtyard with tiny white lights where tables are setup. It is really special."

"I went to the restaurant for my birthday with my family. We sat at a lovely intimate table from where you could see a beautiful courtyard (perfect to eat in when its warm weather). We started of with some cheeses, bean salad and mozzarella salad all of which were really good. The smoked salmon was one of the best i've ever had! I would recommend the asparagus soup as well, it was thick cream and delicious. My favourite dishes were the deserts! They were champagne soaked pineapples and a cake with cranberry and mongo sauce. SO GOOD!! Would have ordered more if I wasn't full! The service was also incredible. The staff were extremely friendly, always made sure we had everything we needed and made us feel really at home."

"Everything was food, but nothing made me feel like this was a dinner I would be hard pressed to get at other good restaurants. I was particularly disappointed that you offered a large choice of artisanal cheeses, many of which I did not know and the waiter seemed to not know much more than me. I ended up guessing and was pretty disappointed. Also instead of offering four pieces of one cheese as part of the three course pre theater dinner, I would much rather have one piece of four different cheeses."

"Easter brunch was had a varied menu with good options. We had eggs Benedict, lamb with grilled asparagus and pancakes as a dessert. The only food less than excellent was the breakfast potatoes-too soggy and greasy. We were seated inside On a cool day. But we could see the garden. "Our party of five all enjoyed ourselves. The ambience is sophisticated and romantic. The staff were very helpful and entertaining. Food is served as small individual dishes, so you choose 2-4 plates to construct your meal. This worked very well for me as I am a light eater, so I chose 2 items. The short rib was tender and succulent. My companions raved about the mushrooms. The fois gras ice cream was pretentious but really only tasted of the dark chocolate that coated it. I had a special martini of plum vodka with lime, which was good but not outstanding. Overall, I liked the restaurant and the food enough to recommend and return."

"I have been there several times and have never been disappointed. Not only is the food delicious, the service is impeccable and it is very affordable. Plus, they have a magnificent enclosed garden area where you can dine or just have drinks in the warmer weather. Definitely worth a visit."

"This was our 2nd visit to the restaurant. The staff was gracious and inviting to begin with, the ambiance was elegantly cozy, we had the pomegranate cosmos to start - excellent; the sunchoke soup and the eggplant cous cous were tasty appetizers and my steak was nicely balanced with well prepared sides. The ewephoria was delicious and the wine list was small but interesting.
However, the staff was not prepared for the number of guests, many of whom were hotel guests. As a result, the service was exceedingly slow - had to ask for bread, we waited an unusually long time between courses and, frustratingly, they ran out of our dessert choice. So a disappointing evening in a restaurant with potential!"

"This is the second time that I've been to M (I only come to Philadelphia a couple of times a year). During the colder months, when outdoor dining isn't possible, the indoor dining room is small and intimate. The menu is creative and the food perfectly prepared. The service is attentive and friendly. I have found my "go to" restaurant when I'm in town."

"M is a quaint little restaurant and bar with a nice ambiance for a romantic meal or drinks at the bar. My fiancee and I enjoyed our meal... the food wasn't the best we have had, but it was good, and the service was very good. Also, the bartender made one of the best Manhattans we ever had! We would likely go back, especially when the weather is warmer and they have their outdoor patio seating available."

"Cozy bar area up front with dining area in the back which is longer than it is wide. Tables are in two straight lines on each side of the room. Meal is served in courses one item at a time. The exotic mushrooms are delicious. Braised short rib and black cod very good. Our server Anthony was excellent and the servers as a whole were very helpful to everyone from what I saw and heard. More than willing to explain options and items."

"M Restaurant is one of the great "hidden" finds in the Philadelphia restaurant scene. Tucked away on 8th and Locust Streets, it is a wonderful restaurant with outstanding food and an absolutely beautiful outdoor enclosed garden area for relaxing and enjoying a great meal in the warmer weather. I've never eaten a bad meal there and the prices are very reasonable. It's definitely worth checking out."

"Went for dinner for Pre Theatre. Lovely setting. Superb food of creative dishes, all expertly prepared. Loved the exotic mushrooms, sunchoke soup, lamb that was perfectly MR-moist and tender, and a superb salmon that was delicate and so tasty. This little hidden restaurant on 8th is a find. We have tickets to The Walnut and have for years frequented other restaurants and decided to try M. We were thrilled we did. Excellent service and an attentive caring staff really sets this place above the rest. We are kind of picky eaters but found many things we wanted to try so we will be back. For a first time visit we were really surprised at the high caliber of the food. This is our new favorite place for our tough group of food critics!"

"Service was inconsistant. Although our server was very attentive, after 1.5 hours, we had not received the final course of our dinner (not dessert; no time for that). Others who entered the dining room after us received their food before we did. Don't think it was because of any exotic or special requests we had; everyone ordered off the menu. We had concert tickets for 8 p.m. - which we didn't mention but should have to our server when we arrived at 5:40 - and had to leave. Staff was apologetic and didn't charge us for the course we didn't have time for. But that was all - no other accommodation was made."

"Service was extremely poor, a 4 course dinner took aproximately 3 hours while waiting sometimes upwards of 45 minutes between courses. The regular menu was replaced with a special "Valentine's Day" menu which did not have many good choices. Portions were undersized."

"The food was amazing. Everything we had was an A+. The service was great as well. Definitely an energetic crowd, I think it pulls in a lot of theater people, but nothing to complain about.

"We visit regularly. The food is consistently excellent. The service is friendly yet professional. The menu is small and very inventive. The surrounding are very pretty and contemporary. At the bar, there has been live jazz that carries into the dining room. Very pleasant. In the courtyard, there are trees with lights. In the warm weather, the dining tables are set up among the lighted trees. Very romantic and pretty. If you stay at the Morris House, you receive a discount on your dinner. I love both places. Very convenient to Walnut Street Theatre ticket holders."

"This was an outstanding dining experience for a small group of four who decided to try it during restaurant week. We had a savory cheese plate with amazing pairings, my favorite being the pasteurized goat with miso garlic butterscotch. The celery root soup and arugula salad were perfect starters before the monkish and exotic mushrooms. The stuffed quail and braised short rib were only lacking in needing a hint more of salt to really bring out the flavor. All-in-all one of the best restaurants I've been to with exceptional service!"

"Went for Restaurant Week and it was an enjoyable experience, but while service was good it was far too rushed. After the first three courses we were ready for a rest and then the dessert arrived within seconds. Choices a bit limited too, but my main gripe was serving hot food on freezing cold plates. The celery root soup was excellent as was the exotic mushroom dish and pear tart. Nice room which had tables far enough apart that you don't hear the conversation at the next table. I think it would be lovely in the summer to eat outside."

"We visited this restaurant for Restaurant week. The ambiance was nice,but every time they let patrons in coats in the dining room and then offered their coat room service which was weird for a fine dining. The service was "pretentiously" nice, the food was not bad but not great either. We expected much more from the restaurant that made it to the best in Philly according to the open table."
