"Took my wife and 3 teens to Evo Bistro for a Mother's Day brunch. Good food, good service, but preposterously overpriced. I can get food/service just as good -- but for considerably less -- at Oyamel or Jaleo.
Zero chance we'll go back. The high prices basically ruined the experience. It's a shame too, because the restaurant is maybe 5 minutes from my house."

"First time we went to Evo Bistro. The food was good, but the portion size for one of our main courses (scallops), was more like an appetizer. When things started to get busy, service slowed considerably. We are glad we went, but will be trying other places before we decide whether to go back."

"bad food. If I could just steal the bottle of cumin from the chef, this place would improve dramatically - as the chef's heavy hand destroyed several of the dishes we ordered. On the bright side our server was very knowledgable about the wines we ordered."

"The food was delicious, as always, but the first dessert we ordered, the chocolate chip cherry cheesecake, was awful. The texture was disagreeable, and the tastes just didn't go together. Our waiter was kind enough to let us make a second choice, and we ordered the crumble, which was delicious. Other than that, the food was excellent!"

"Kitchen staff was great (plates came out quickly), but wait staff was incredibly slow, which is not good when you want to continue to order small plates in a fun restaurant like this one."

"The wine list is great. The food is so-so. My waitress, Katie I eblieve her name was, was the best I've had in a long time -- very knowledgable and friendly.
Some nights, they have 1/2 off bottles of wine. Their happy hour is vibrant - cheap wine and apps. Definitely worth the look see -- I'll be back, though the food was only average. I had the homemade chorizo -- it was very oily and was served with a very thin tomato olive relish. The gnocci was quite good."

"Half off wine is a great draw but crowds and noise and an overwhelmed kitchen do not make for a great experience. Restaurant needs to consider methods and decorations to reduce noise. More waitstaff would also help."

"The service was extremely slow - more than 15 minutes to get a glass of wine. The food was overpriced for the quality/taste. We had been looking forward to trying Evo Bistro as we had heard such great things. But, we were disappointed in the service and food. I doubt we will be back."

"The food is excellent, but getting really expensive. Tapas plates at $15 - $18 each? The shrimp & grits was very good, as were a few of the other plates - the chef is clearly very good, but of all the area McLean restaurants, we probably won't be returning to this one very often - it just feels a bit overdone and overpriced."

"We went on a Friday night during Restaurant Week and it was really loud. I would go back at an off-peak time and see if the atmosphere is better. We did small plates: the lamb sliders were amazing, as well as the mussels. I would go back just for the sliders. Server was pleasant and attentive."

"Great lunch from start to finish. Server was friendly and knowledgeable of both the food and wine menu. The lunch special, which is 3 tapas and 1 dessert, is the way to go. We took the server's recommendation of the grilled artichokes which were very tasty, along with all of the other tapas (3-cheese tortilla, beet salad, ceviche, chicken kebab, and lamb sliders), which were all quite delicious and quite an assortment of food! Dessert was also yummy. Will definitely return soon!"

"First impressions: deafeningly loud. Shoved out of the way by a passing food runner while we were being led to our table. Look at the menu and see the $15-20 dishes and figure the food is reasonably priced to make up for the wine selection starting at $48 per bottle, until we learn the dishes are tapas and we're encouraged to get at least 2-3 per person. During the meal, we had a question for a manager. Hailed a guy walking around we assumed was one, who promptly rolled his eyes before confirming he was a manager, then stared blankly at us waiting for our question. The food, ambiance and most notably service were not worth the nearly $100 per head we paid for it. Save your money - there are far better places out there."

"I have loved this place since it opened many years ago, before its expansion. Although it became very noisy as the night wore on, the food is excellent, and the small plates allow for much sharing and tasting. I love it!"

"Cute place, but out of the three dishes we tried only muscles were special. The sea bass was pretty bad. The sauce was tasty and you certainly needed it because the fish tasted like it was defrosted in the microwave just before being cooked. Also service was slow. Would have ordered more but ate two baskets of bread waiting for the bass to arrive."

"I would not go to this restaurant again. VERY loud -- we asked for a quiet table and still could not hear ourselves talk. The food was mediocre at best -- very underwhelming, and extremely overpriced. The only good thing was the service, we had a great waitress. McLean restaurants are generally lacking and this one was no exception."

"The food was pretty good. The service was a bit slow as it took time for the waitress to take our initial drink order. When she came, she did go above and beyond to let us try the 2 wines offered from the pre set Valentine's menu. The restaurant was a bit noisy and it was hard to hear one another. Even with these minor flaws, I really enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely go back again."

"Service was fair to poor--way too much time in between courses, especially after the main course, it took about 15-20 minutes to get desserts (we ordered from the fixed menu so I don't understand why it would take so long). My friend ordered a second drink, which never even came. There seems to be this "team" approach to wait staff, so we had at least 3 wait personnel for our table, but each of them ignored us sufficiently, that I was beginning to wonder whether maybe they had added another waiter to the team. It was DC Restaurant Week and we went with the fixed menu, the place was busy, but I would expect way better service for the prices they charge. Food was OK, but I would probably only return for the half price happy hour."

"Evo Bistro is tucked away in a shopping center, but once inside you will be glad you found it. The menu has many innovative dishes and they are served to perfection. The wine by the glass list is extensive.
Looking forward to going back."

"I've eaten here twice. This most recent visit was much improved, but service is lacking. The food is very good, but I fear the kitchen has issues with timing. Bottom line, keep enjoying - but wait for service to improve."

"Service was slow in arriving, then rushed and perfunctory, not friendly. The duck confit ordered by 2 in our party was a dry and tasteless duck leg. Rockfish and beef tenderloin were ok. i indicated when reserving that it was our daughter's birthday, hoping for a candle in her dessert, but nothing."

"First visit, taking advantage of restaurant week. Waitstaff was very pleasant, but spread a bit thin for the number of diners. Food was flavorful and nicely presented. Pleasant, Mediterranean atmosphere was not enhanced by music hits of the 70's, which seemed not in keeping with the setting. Looks like a great place to stop by after work to sample the many wines."

"...But probably much better on a slow night. They were absolutely slammed, at full capacity and way behind on serving. Clearly something was wrong in the kitchen; the dining room staff were apologetic and gave a concession in the end, but it took almost two hours to get an entree and appetizer (as our meal was served out of order). They might have had to go fishing for some of the seafood items or hunting deer somewhere in McLean for the venison dish... The food was great when it finally arrived, FWIW. They definitely need to staff up and/or have more understudies in the kitchen, though, if they decide to participate in a future Restaurant Week event."

"A good experience was made a great one by the wait staff and the use of the private dining room. Only when the door was closed could we hear each other (can't imagine sitting out of the floor as it was way too loud to converse). The food was hit and miss (hits included the gnocci, mussels and venison; misses included the desserts and the clams). The wine selection was good, if a bit overpriced."
