"We came to firehouse with a group of 7 girs and had a lovely time. The service was amazing. Water glasses refilled constantly, food came fast and the complimentary appetizer from the chef was very tasty. The staff was helpful with selecting antrees and also very polite.Over all, loved FireHouse."

"Excellent restaurant. My wife said the duck wasn't as good as she remembered it; however, my Chateaubriand was very well prepared. The lobster bisque was probably one of the best soups I've ever tasted. The service was impeccable and the ambiance was classic. I'm giving the food 3 stars because that's where it should be. I am comparing them to restaurants that I have visited and they are good, but they don't stack up next to a Domaine Chandon. That being said, this is still one of the better restaurants in Sacramento."

"I'm a first-time customer here and this place absolutely was beautiful. It was definitely one of those special occasion restaurants. The food was pricey, but absolutely amazing and as they say: "You get what you paid for!" I can truly say that I got what I paid for plus more. I felt like royalty in that restaurant. I highly recommend anyone to this restaurant especially if you're looking for some place romantic or proposing to that special someone. This place is #1 on my top favorite restaurant list."

"I Stephen Wilks along with my beautiful wife visited the Firehouse for the first time for our 3 year anniversary. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our host for the evening was employee # 3033 or last name Holger. He was magnificently outstanding. He was very attentive to my wife and even got her a napkin that matched her black dress so that the lint from the napkin would not be noticeable on her dress. The whole evening Mr.Holger was extremely outgoing and had excellent reccomendations for us on evrything on the menu.
We will defenitely be returning soon with friends and request Mr. Holger as our host again for the evening"

"I look forward to dining at the Firehouse. It is an elegant oasis in the middle of Old Sacramento. Excellent food, beautiful and interesting decor and great service. "I was born in Sacramento, so was my father and grandfather. We often went to "Old Town" but back then in the 1950's it was pretty much a real 'old town'. It was a very historic moment for me to actually have a meal at the Firehouse, my very first. I must say it is the finest dinner I have had in a restaurant in California. I was very proud."

"I returned to the Firehouse restaurant after many years. I am delighted that despite changes in management, the fine dining experience has not been sacrificed in favor of trends and a hurry-up-let's-eat kind of restaurant. This is a place to take your time, chat over a cocktail, enjoy a leisurely dinner and relax with dessert and coffee. The menu may first appear a bit intimidating, but closer scrutiny provided a great variety from filet mignon to vegetarian options. For any special occasion this is certainly the restaurant. Enjoy!"

"The experience was wonderful from the minute we walked in. The hostess took our coats and gave us a claim ticket. We ordered a bottle of white and one of red, which were both delivered and opened by supplemental staff. Our entire meal was amazing, with additions of an amuse bouche and a palate cleanser of cucumber sorbet, both complimentary. It was our son's 30th birthday, which I had already told the staff when I made the reservation, and he received a discreet and complimentary creme brulee with a candle. We received outstanding service, but it was obvious that this is the norm for the Firehouse. They made us feel special. We will definitely return for our next special occasion."

"This is my favorite place for a special occasion... the service is great, anything that you order is cooked and flavored to perfection... This is a restaurant that I would feel comfortable ordering something new with confidence, as I have never had a dish that was not fabulous. The little extras (complementary items to taste, trading out my white linen napkin for black to avoid leaving "fuzz" on my black outfit, suggesting the perfect wine) make the firehouse a place I will always return to for birthdays and celebrations!"

"One of Sacramento's best. Expensive, but nice for a special occassion. The employees were very kind and attentive, and the small restaurant is surprisingly beautiful on the inside. The only negative was that the dinner took over an hour to be served and we visited on a Tuesday which was not a busy night, but it was absolutely delicious when it arrived."

"With high prices comes the expectation of exceptional service and food. Our server seemed to be a qualified server, but he did not know the menu well. He did not know what accompanied the entrees on the menu and called a fried risotto amuse bouche "vegetable croquette." The most disappointing however was the entree. I ordered Salmon and asked him to request it rare, saying that slightly raw in the middle was ok with me. He assured me that the kitchen knew how to prepare Salmon. What I got for $31 was a 6 ounce piece of completely overcooked (dry) salmon. Everything else was tasty and well presented. I think if the server had been better trained I would have had a better experience."

"My experience at the Firehouse was overall a positive one. However, after getting a three course dinner for 4 people, at more than $100 per person, I expected the best meal of my life. The Firehouse did not deliver on this. The apps were great, I had a beat and berry salad. The lobster bisque was good. The biggest disappointment was the main: filet mignon. The meat was a little tough despite having ordered it medium. The dessert a three layer chocolate mousse napoleon was excellent, while the creme brule was nothing to write home about. Due to the extremely high prices at the Firehouse, and the lack of 5 star food, I would not recommend this place for anyone that doesn't have a lot of money to spend."

"My wife and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary at the Firehouse. Having eaten there several years ago we were expecting an excellent dining experience, and that was exactly what we got, and then some.
The food was spectacular, service excellent, we experienced a most special meal on our most special evening. My wife has brain cancer and maybe only a few more months to live so this was a very special evening, and probably our last anniversary dinner. Thank you for making it so very good for us."

"An excellant night. The dinner superb, the surrondings and service spotless and without flaw. The only thing that I longed for on such a special night (Valentines day) was a roaving photographer, or a setting for a quick picture at entry, and a pickup on completing the meal. Digital pictures & quality printers are so cheap and fast, it should be included for next year. (complementary or at a very low cost)."

"The service and food at the Firehouse were outstanding. My girlfriend and I went for a late Valentine's Day (2/15). We especially liked the extras provided by the chef for our 3 course meal. The only drawback was just before we left some rowdy kids who were woefully underdressed came into the restaurant and were talking using their cell phones at the table. This type of behaviour, when allowed to continue by the restaurant, can make an excellent experience just average. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner very much and the service was polite but prompt."

"The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. We stayed over 2 hours and they never rushed us or slowed with their service. Full water glasses right up to the time of departure.
Two of us had filet mignon which were cooked perfectly.

"Hands down, one of the best dinners we have ever had. I took my husband there for Valentine's Day weekend. He is a steak eater and has had many steaks. He says it is the best steak he has ever had! The service was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and I'm sure we'll be back, but it will have to be a special occasion because it's pricey, but I would expect a 4-5 star restaurant to be pricey....thank you!"

"An elegant venue for a special occasion. The food was wonderful and service attentive but not overbearing. Our reservations were for 8:30 but we checked in at 4:45 hoping for an earlier seating. We were seated indoors even though it was very busy and we could have been sent to the outdoor seating area on short notice. The general manager was very gracious about that."

"Simply amazing. Expectations for The Firehouse always run high, the food is consistently good, the ambience typically lustrous and relaxing. I had included a note with my reservation, letting the staff know it was our 8th anniversary celebration. Upon arriving, we were shown to the best seat in the house, and what elevated our celebration was the premiere service provided by waiter John Bace. John was everything you could ask for in a waiter... courteous without being obsequious, attentive without smothering, knowledgeable and patient... absolutely perfect. He offered us choices, made some helpful suggestions, and explained some confusing terms. He was friendly and personable, we will never forget our evening at The Firehouse."

"Lived in Sac for 4 years now but never made it out but glad I did! Their wine list is probably the biggest in sacramento and had some very notable ones on there. The food was amazing. Had the pork belly which could have been a little bigger but it taste great. My girlfriend had the lamb so of course i tried some and it was very tasty. It came with a yam gratin that she loved. I got the scallops, which had a very interesting sauce and had a bacon wrap around it which made it very tasty. We talked to the chef after dinner and he was probably one of the more humble/nicest chefs ever and even offered to give the gratin recipe to my girlfriend! Awesome experience."

"We went to the Firehouse with another couple during the dine around town week. The food was unbelievebly good. They started us with a small duck confit in fillo dough. All of us had the crab bisque and wanted to lick the bowl.The presentation of the soup was very special bowls delievered to the table with a lobster puff and hunk of crab. Then the soup was brought out in copper pans and poured into the bowls.Meyer lemon sorbet before the main course. Three of us had the potato crusted salmon with golden chanterelle mushroom risotto. One had the chicken marsala. Not a speck of food was left on any of the plates. We all thought we shouldn't have dessert as the meal was so rich and filling but all decided to have the nepolian. Excellent!"

"The food was fantastic. The place seems uptight at first, but the employees are very nice and helpful. One exception was our waiter, he was a little too serious for my taste. In addition, he failed to realize I had an empty wine glass in front of me on several occasions when I had a fresh bottle at the end of our table. Otherwise, I would recommend this place in a heartbeat. The ambiance was very romantic, yet had the qualities to support a group."

"1927 Pedro Jimenez sherry by the glass?? That alone made the meal worth it. Definitely worth a return visit. The only annoyance: they stop refilling water glasses when they see you on the dessert course. "My boyfriend and I went to the Firehouse Restaurant on Sat. Jan 16th. We participated in the Dine Downtown special promotion for $30 each. The soup was excellent. I had the pork that was one of the specials and it wasn't too good. The pork was overcooked. I did like the carrot cheesecake desert. My boyfried had the Salmon and it was good. "While Firehouse has the reputation as one of Sacramento's premier restaurants, the food is good, not great. The wine list is one of the area's best, with an excellent selection of French Bordeaux and Burgundy wines. Had high expectations of the intriging "Chef's Tasting", but the dishes tended to have some flavor or texture mismatches (some of the ingredients were too large and hard). I was personally disappointed in what I preceived to be second rate ingredients (fennel was bitter) . Still, the ambience is very good and services makes the Firehouse an excellent choice for a romantic evening. I would suggest other restaurants for "foodies" looking for heavenly gastronomical experiences."

"Our recent dining experience at the Firehouse was outstanding in every way. Before we went, my boy friend was concerned that the portions would be small and that he would be hungry after dinner. Not only were the portions generous, but every course was memorably delicious. We especially liked the Chicken Marsala and the Tuxedo Chocolate Mousse Napoleon. The main dining room where we ate was very elegant. The service was excellent. The staff were all warm, personable, professional and unstuffy. We have already e-mailed and called our friends to tell them what a great dining experience we had at the Firehouse."

"We went to the restaurant for Dine Downtown....and we were treated like a million bucks. Great personnel. Wine selection was what we requested within our budget...wonderful wine from Spain.
The three course meal included two additional amuses; a pastry delight for an appetizer and a cucumber sorbet between courses. My favorite was the lobster - potato - crab bisque. A five star meal. Thank you."

"If you're are thinking about going, DO IT!

We did new years eve here. The service was outstanding and prompt. The selections was good. I had the Rack of Lamb and it was cooked to perfection. The sauce was fruity and amazing! I did however not like the potatoes as they had also a sweet taste to them. It was overpowering and one bite was all I could stand at a time. Pricy but worth it if you want to have a great meal in a romantic setting.

We had the sampler. I will tell you not to get it and get to the best thing on it, the steak! It was great. Crab Cake was good.

I will go there again to try out the other dishes."

"The Firehouse continues to be one of our favorite Sacramento restaurants. The food was excellent, from appetizer through dessert. The extras that were served to us as compliments from the Chef were a special surprise and were excellent. We were served the duck confit on leek (complimentary) shared the appetizer sampler, enjoyed Crab bisque, a cucmber/lemon sorbet was served (wow was that a treat) main entree's included the pork chop, Osso Bucco (venison) and the game hen. We ended with a complimentary date pastry and our favorite creme brulee. Being fans of Top Chef and other cooking shows we have an appreciation for great food -the Firehouse did not disappoint and the service we received really made us feel special. Really 5 stars!"

"The Firehouse is one of our favorite restaurants which is why we had our wedding reception there and why we continue to dine there. The food and wine were both delicious at our most recent visit. The sampler appetizer plate is a great way to experience some of the wonderful appetizers. The service is perfectly timed and very friendly. The restaurant has so much character in it's ambiance and decor. When the weather permits, dining in the courtyard is definitely recommended."

"This was the fifth consecutive year that we dined at The Firehouse Restaurant for our anniversary. By making a reservation a week in advance through Open Table Dining, a very private booth was booked for us and ready on time. The food and service were exceptional as always and we were treated to a lovely creme brulee in honor of our special day. From the time the friendly valet parked our car until the time we drove off, the evening was one we will remember. We plan to go again and bring friends with us this time and we definitely know where we will be dining on our next anniversary."

I tried some lamb and it was delightful. My son was well-pleased with the scallops. I ordered the ribeye, and while it was good, it wasn't out of the ordinary, especially given the price. We brought wine, and it was refreshing to get good quality stemware for each different bottle."

"We enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner and while very crowded and noisy, we were not made to feel rushed or slighted. Service was excellent, the food and wine heavenly. I've never been to brunch or lunch or taken children, but I would bet they would be as good as all the dinner's I've enjoyed there. The wait staff was quick and very attentive. Always a pleasure dining at the Firehouse."

"We went there for a dinner not knowing what to expect other than the reviews we saw on Open Table.

We were semi-rushed to make it to a show in the area and related that to our very courteous waiter who showed the upmost concern and proactive attentivenes.

Our appetizer and dinner were phenominal. Being a bit of a foodie as was my date it was very refreshing to see a menu that had us undecided as to ordering based on the delicious verbal presentation of the items.

We both agreed that we will definitely make a point to take more time and relax and enjoy the beautiful atmosphere, gourmet food and ambience which exhudes from the Firehouse Restaurant! Maybe we can have dessert next time too! =)
