"I took a group of friends to celebrate one of our friend's birthday here. I've had high hopes after reading reviews here but from the very moment we walked in it was disappointment galore. No sooner had we stepped in the restaurant the hostess rudely prodded us to check in. She didn't take a moment to welcome us. She then seated us upstairs right next to the staircase and disappeared. She didn't say who is going to wait on us. About 5 minutes later a waiter started taking our drink order He was cordial but took too long to take the rest of our order. We didn't get one of the items we ordered yet got charged for that. Food was okay but for a restaurant purporting itself to be a classy one this kind of shoddy & crass service is untenable."

"We went there to celebrate. I made a reservation through internet seeing that they have a Michelin star. It was a very good choice. The stuff was kind and very helpful. The choosen menu was excellent, the coctail and win is good. And last but not list the price was very resonable for what we got form them."

"Every detail is thought out from the lighting, to the menus...the flatware to the glasses and the result is an aesthetically beautiful experience. Not to mention the food is amazing (some of the best, non-MSG Indian I've had) and the service is professional. A great place. And if you can't get reservations, you should walk in and sit at a table in the bar area. Same food, same great service."

"We brought two friends to dinner here a bit worried that it would not be a 10 experience but wow...they wowed us over and over. The service was attentive and at times playful. We met the owner and the chef. Drinks were on spot and great pour for wine. Then to dinner which was amazing. My only complaint is that the veg section should be done in 1/2 portions so that people can share. Would be perfect than!"

"I have been to the restaurant several times in the past. This time, I made a reservation to celebrate a special occassion (parents' anniversary and wife's birthday). I called ahead to speak with a manager to find out if anything special could be done to celebrate both occassions in terms of a cake. The response I received was "Yes we have cakes and we can put candles." I then asked what kind of cakes, was placed on hold for fifteen minutes and then told about four types of cake slices available. I asked if I could bring my own cake from outside and they said there would be a $5 per person plating charge. I left the dessert to the restaurant and the restaurant put candles' on the dessert for my parents, they left them off for my wife."

"What a great restaurant! The inside of the restaurant is cozy and simple, and there is definitely a quiet class about the whole experience. The food is beyond compare and the service could not be better. No detail is missed.Perfection! Each dish was obviously prepared with great care to bring out the best of the ingredients, and to present them attractively.The staff works as a team here, so you meet all of them. I liked that because they were all ridiculously nice, comfortable, and knowledgeable.

"We LOVE this place. First, its in our neighborhood, within walking distance. Second, the bar and the specialty drinks are original and varied. Third, the food is delicious and very professional service. We take friends to this place all the time, and everyone loves it....but last time ambiance was just ok. Sorry but I felt the way people were dressed just wasn't appropriate.. People around the bar were not the type of people I mix with. Hostess was better dressed than allot of guests. "We adore Tamarind. I try to go at least once a week. It is a gorgeous setting, with amazing food. The staff is on top of great service and Uncle and the management team, always have something special for us. "Usually I love Tamarind, but this night the mood of the restaurant seemed indifferent. Service was deeply professional but impersonal. And the food had some glaring errors. The fried manchurian cauliflower we ordered was soggy, which I can only surmise came from it being sauced too early. The tandoori lamb was past well done. And a shrimp curry was hopelessly overcooked. The shrimp were cooked through as they came to our table and the curry it was in was near the boil. They never had a chance, and they were only getting more overcooked as they sat."

"Went with friends after much convincing that this is the best indian restaurant in town. The ambiance is great as always, but the food was unfortunately sub-par. Maila kebab 10/10. But entress were not well prepared. The presentation was that of any other indian restaurant in town, chcicken tikka was absolutely dry. Sahi panneer was more like kadai paneer with nig shunks of onions and pepper."

"The food is very good but both food and wine are very expensive. A simple dinner for two and one glass of wine was almost $140. Even being from SF, that is a lot for a dinner for the two of us! No dessert and no coffee."

"From start to finish, the entire experience of this restaurant was top notch and unbelievable. The food was by far some of the best Indian I've ever had. We were so glad we chose this to celebrate our anniversary. I'd highly recommend Tamarind over and over and over again. While expensive, I felt like it was worth every cent. Will definitely come again."

"Impressive space, very big dining room with beautiful decor. The lighting was perfect and the staff are very well coordinated. Food was okay, I'm willing to give it anther chance but wasn't as impressive as the food at the other Michelin starred Indian restaurants in NYC."

"We have been here several times and love this restaurant. This time we ordered the chef's special menu which we found to be a mistake. Too many small tiny appetizers. Many tased like they had been prepared long in advance. Next time I will go back to the regular menu which is superb."
