Posto
Inspired to create a casual Italian restaurant in their own neighborhood, the culinary team behind Washington, DC’s award-winning Ristorante Tosca opened the doors to Posto, “a modern Italian place to meet,” in December 2008. It is located in a beautiful, century-old building (which at one time was a car dealership!) on the newly re-energized 14th St. NW – right next door to The Studio Theater, and just steps away from P St. and its hubbub of activity. As a proud new addition to the Logan Circle neighborhood, Posto serves classic and modern Italian dishes, and is the perfect place to drop in for a cocktail and a quick bite, or a multi-course meal shared with friends. At the bar, an enomatic wine dispenser keeps up to 24 wines by the glass at the perfect temperature. A custom-built, wood-burning oven located in the back of the dining room entices guests with the smells of just-baked pizzas and focaccia.

"Food was great, service perfect, ambience wonderful. We were a bit late for our reservation since our son was arriving at Union Station. The restaurant was great about accommodating this. We really loved the food - onion soup was great with the right balance of cheese, bread, onions, and soup. Mussels cooked just right. A great evening.
We were also served very quickly which we appreciated since one of us had been traveling most of the day."

"The gnocchi was delicious but the server was never around! I've never had to CONSTANTLY flag down a waiter like this. Ridiculous because there were plenty of other servers, so it's not like he was responsible for a million tables by himself!"

"Very impressed with the food, friendliness of Hostess and wait staff. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered, the pepper soup, salad, Linguine with sea food, and Gnocchi. The bread was fantastic as well. We look forward to returning and to trying Sister restaurant Tosca. We strongly recommend Posto."

"This was our first time at the restaurant and they couldn't have been more gracious. The service was attentive, but not rushed. We had a play to go to and they kept us going at a easy pace. The food was really good and they made accommodations to some changes in our order. I definitely recommend it."

"We had a terrific meal and even better service at a leisurely meal before theater at Studio One. It was such a nice experience, we'll be back with or without theater. I will say that my branzino fish lacked some flavor that I resolved with much additional fresh lemon juice. This may just be the "nature of the beast" as it is a very light white fish. Just wish I could have tasted more of the oven roasted effect. My husband's meal was superb - he had the tilapia. The crostini was awesome - we tried one of all 3 varieties and the smoked salmon was the hands down winner, followed closely by the fresh pea. Cocktails and the wine we selected were great. Wish I could remember name of waiter as he was totally great!"

"It's always a warm greeting by Omar. We were seated promptly this time (we had a long wait last time) and the food was delicious as it's always been. "Although Posto appears to lack some of the critical buzz -- and lines out the door -- of a few of its 14th Street neighbors, I find it regularly offers outstanding cooking. This was true again during my most recent meal. Rich, flavorful gnocchi was the latest superior pasta course I have had at Posto, followed by a perfectly prepared duck breast. Dessert and breads were excellent as well. Service is pleasant and helpful. As is typical in this neighborhood, the room tends to be on the noisy side, although not ear-splitting."

"Because of construction parking was impossible! It took 30 minutes. I finally gave up and paid $17 to park in a lot.

"If you're going to the Studio Theater, this is the best restaurant in the neighborhood. I'll warn you that it's pricey, but the service and food are worth it. As the years go by, we keep trying other restaurants in the neighborhood, but we keep returning to Posto. They have an outdoor area, but you can also sit next to the huge windows and feel like you are outside."

"Overwhelming noise that ruins any culinary experience. The food was a disappointment, too. I had the arugula salad, which had little flavor, followed by the veal pasta, which was on the greasy side. My companions had the Linguine, which they found dull, the scallops overcooked. Maybe Posto just doesn't care. Maybe it wants to lure you in, have you eat quickly, brave the numbing noise, and then rush away, never to return again.
Being from the neighborhood, this makes me sad.
I doubt Posto will care. There are people waiting in lines to get in, since it offers a good number of tables (14th St restaurants tend to be small). So I'm probably railing against the wind.
But I wish Posto would work to improve its very flawed MO."

"This was our first visit and we ordered two specialties of the day; Arctic Char with grilled Romaine and sautéed shallots, a soup special and three cheeses to end. The food was simply as well done as one could ask. It was the kink of dinner in which we wanted to keep running to the chef to tell him/her how much we liked what he/she had done. I can't tell you that it is like this every time, but we will certainly go back and begin a series of tests.
Also, if you are going to The Studio Theatre, as we were, the theatre is just next door."

"Overall everything was fine. The arugula salad, eggplant parm, beets, pork and pasta were our selections and they were enjoyable. Service was fine. Ambiance was good but there was a strong draft coming from either the front door, kitchen or both. Noise was a bit loud, but hey, we are in a restaurant and things get loud, right? Solid experience. I'll be back when I'm looking for straight forward, good Italian food."

"One of our neighborhood favorites. Usually a once or twice a month place for us. Cocktails are a bit overpriced, but the service is quite good. On our last visit we struck out on the food an wine choices. We both ordered the chicken special - 10 minutes later we learned they were out of chicken. We also ordered a bottle of wine ($28) only to find out, another 10 minutes later, that they were out of that vintage. So our 2 dinner special ($30/pp) and affordable wine dinner which would have totaled about $90 turned into $125 before tip. I thought they should have given us the 2nd bottle at the 1st bottles price but I didn't ask and they didn't offer. Even so, we will still keep going back since the food is always good."

"We ate at Posto as part of a birthday dinner party for 6 people. Upon arrival, we were told our table was being set up and then seated promptly. Our server was attentive and friendly. As a table, we opted to order many different items and share them "family" style". All of the dishes we ordered we delicious. There were 4 people in our party celebrating March birthdays and each was brought a dessert with candle at the end of the evening - a very nice & generous touch. The space can get a bit loud when the restaurant is full, so Posto might not be the best choice if you are looking to enjoy an intimate conversation during your meal.I will definitely return to Posto and highly recommend it."

"The food was absolutely fantastic - I had the chitarra spaghetti with truffles and porcini mushrooms and it was very rich but delicious, and the portion was not too huge. My dining companions had the stracci pasta with lamb meat balls, and the ravioli with roast beef, and both loved their entrees. The service was good but not amazing. I wish the ambience were a bit cozier to match how good the food is, but the space is so huge and ceilings so tall it can feel a bit cavernous. Not enough to take away from the food though! All in all, a great meal."

"Our favorites were the pork belly small plate and the pizza. We also had the octopus, which was fine and a fun adventure, but not something I'd order again. We thought the pizza was the best thin-crust pizza we've had in DC. Our desserts (the deconstructed apple tart and something chocolate - second and third items on the dessert menu) were amazing. If we'd had ten seconds alone with the plates, we would have licked them clean. :) The service was super attentive. We arrived at 7 on a Monday and found the place nearly empty, but when we left around 8:30, it had really picked up."
