"La Mer is not for everyone. It is very high end, I.e., expensive, and their dress code is nothing short of ridiculous given the Hawaii seaside location. Granted, I guess you want to eliminate the bathing suits and bare feet, but the prices should do that with no problem. The food was excellent quality, although portions were tiny as is common in this type of high end restaurant. My dining companion found her food too salty to eat, but she is very sensitive to salt. The sauces used on the entrees were very rich and almost overwhelming. I would recommend the chef tone it down a bit and let the favors of the food come through rather than drown them in the sauce.

"LaMer is a classic restaurant. They treat you as if you've been there 100 times, even if its your first time. Exquisite food, amazing wine list and finished off by the incredible scenic views of the ocean. It's a wonderful special occasion restaurant. Please don't go if you like copious amounts of food. Each course is carefully prepared so that your overall eating experience is perfectly satisfied."

"Gorgeous restaurant right on the beach, we had a seat facing out towards the ocean and it was breath taking, hearing the waves, feeling the breeze and receiving probably some of the best food I've EVER eat (and I'm vegetarian so that was a pleasant surprise) and by far the best service I've ever received in a restaurant... and I've eaten in LA, NY and Chicago at premier places but this takes the cake!"

"I have had the pleasure of dining at La Mer a dozen times over the years and I rank it as one of the great restaurants in the world. Service is unobtrusive but done perfectly. The food arrives perfectly prepared and beautifully plated. The restaurant it self is tastefully appointed and the ambience is just perfect. It is expensive but is definitely worth the price."

"Second time here. Both for pre-birthdays. My wife and I had two jobs before moving from NYC to Kaneohe, Hawaii We were elementary school teachers and also wine educators. We taught wine courses to the public as well as the industry. Therefore we were highly involved with the food industry. We loved going to the new and in restaurants. Oahu has some amazing new boutique type restaurants like Prima, Town, Salt, Hiroshi and of course Sidestreet Inn on Da Strip . Each is unique into its own. Le Mer is in another world. Being that we usually spend over a month or more traveling in France we can easily put Le Mer into the category of "a 2 star Michelin Restaurant. Go see forb yourself n"

"We have dined at many of Honolulu's best restaurants; our experience at La Mer surpassed them all. The food is beautifully presented and absolutely delicious - i had the best halibut entree ever. I do not normally order desert but, since the meals are ordered in pre fixe style, a choice was required. The vanilla soufflé was truly delicious - made to order and hot from the oven. A perfect end to a perfect dining experience. Our next visit to the islands will most definitely include dinner here."

"My wife & I dined at La Mer back in February 2011. After that experience, we thought La Mer was the best restaurant on the island. However, we've returned to La Mer for our anniversary back on February 2013 and noticed that the quality of their food dramatically went down hill. This prompted us to ask our server whether there was a new chef since 2011--we found out that our chef back in 2011 has left since this past summer. Although the presentation of this new chef's dishes were beautiful, again, my wife and I noticed a diminished level in the quality of the ingredients. That being said, it's still a beautiful location for dining and the service was outstanding. There's also a limit on how much cheese one may sample--not like before."

"The view through open, floor to ceiling windows is splendid. The service was excellent, very knowledgeable and professional. The food, while good, was nothing memorable and certainly overpriced, even by Honolulu standards. This is a beautiful facility. It's just not worth paying $400 for a dinner for two, that would cost less than $200, on the mainland. It's a good restaurant, just not worth the money."

"Very good food, but no Wow-factor…well excluding the prices. I believe they would have more return customers if they lowered their prices. My wife and I started with a couple of $18 each Pimm's cocktails, which I can say were better than the Pimm's we had in London, then shared a 3-Course and 4-Course with a ’95 Bordeaux and spent over $700. Good thing 20 year anniversaries come only once a lifetime. Fantastic service....not hard when the place is only half-full."

"My wife and I were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and this was our dress up night out for dinner. First of all, we were seated next to a window overlooking part of the beach, very romantic. We had at least 4 different people wait on us. If you are a wine enthusiast, they have a very large wine list with a very knowledgeable member of their staff to explain them all to you. The dinner was delicious. I will certainly go back again.
Guys, if you are needing a place to propose to that special someone, I would recommend this place."
