Shore Bird Restaurant & Beach Bar
For the past 29 years, Island residents and tourists alike have flocked to the Shore Bird, making it one of Waikiki's most venerated institutions. It's the thrill of the grill that has captured guests imaginations and appetites for more than two decades. Shore Bird is not just a place to eat. Shore Bird is an experience where all guests have a lot of fun! Servers interact with our guests and not just serve them. The over all concept is "Aloha". Guests are responsible for for grilling their own dinner entrees but they don't have to be master barbecurers. An experienced grill hand and a large clock help make the process easy. Here's how it works: Steaks and seafood come to the table fresh on a platter with instructions. Guest are able to season and then prepare their entree exactly to their liking . All entrees include the salad bar, which showcases more than 25 items, such as fresh greens, garnishes, fruits, tako poke, rice, bread and pasta.

"I have eaten at the Shore Bird many times and had good meals but the last two times we have eaten here, the food was mediocre. The unique quality about this restaurant is that you BBQ your own food. They give general cooking times. Two of us ordered steak and one was very thick, one very thin. At home it might be easier to keep track of the temperature of the meat, but the grill area is so hot, it is impossible to get near the grill without burning yourself! Unfortunately, we ended up with one undercooked steak and one very well done steak. All meals include the salad bar which is ok. If you are looking for a fun experience for your kids, this might be a good place for you. If you are looking for an excellent dinner, probably not here."

"We knew that this is a cook it yourself place with great steaks. We thoroughly enjoyed our steaks . Out waitress was very clear oin her instruction on how to cook. And enjoyed socializing with other diners around the grill. Fun place, great setting, nice stakes."

"Who knew it'd be so much fun to go out to dinner, and grill your own food? You do that here and it is kinda cool! You choose your protein (meat, fish, poultry, etc) and they bring it to you after you load up at the huge salad bar. They tell you how to grill it and then you fix it yourself. That way you get it hit and fresh and cooked the way you like. All in all a fun way to dine, and so tasty. Worth a try at least once while in Honolulu."

"What can you say about a restaurant and bar facing the Ocean in Waikiki. The scenery is fantastic. The service was extraordinary and the drinks were excellent. The food however is bland. Even the spice it yourself and grill yourself mentality doesn't help as the spice containers are not labeled well. I would recommend the bar for drinks but little else."

"Despite making reservations for breakfast, we still had to wait in line for a table. The buffet was decent and we enjoyed ourselves despite a few minor irritations. We do plan on trying the restaurant for lunch or dinner. It's a nice place for open air dining."

"We were a little disappointed the service was not as attentive as it had been a few days before. The waiter seemed to focus on one table at a time and didn't scan others to see if somethng was needed. Salad bar items were not as good. Sun-dried tomato quinoa didn't have any sun-dried tomatoes and the potato salad had not marinated, so it had no flavor. The steak and mahi mahi were excellent. Beautiful view and enjoyable over all."

"Had outside guest in Hawaii to attend a friend's graduation. My friend and I have been there before, and the service was good. This time the waiter was friendly, but was totally incorrect about the cooking times for the meat. The ambiance was alright, probably not the best place to take guest."

"I had the buffet menu for myself but wasn't really satisfied because food was always empty. Some people were waiting until it got refilled. As for the rest of my family, they enjoyed their food except my daughter and she had the Kalua pig sandwitch. And my daughter isn't a picky eater but she didn't like it. So, we had to order another Nachos for her to fill her stomach. Restaurant was a little busy because of Mother's Day so I understand our waiter was too. We would always have to call for our waiter, rather then he check on us. Gave him a good tip anyway. Over all it was good and the view was perfect."

"If you are looking for a fantastic deal set in a nice location, this is the place to eat in Waikiki. The service has always been great, the view is amazing and the grill it yourself approach is a lot of fun. Reserve a table overlooking the water; and get a seating before 5:30 for the Sunset Special.
We celebrated a birthday that came with a massive brownie which was an excellent cap to our first of two dinners this trip. The Shorebird is a must visit spot for us every trip to Waikiki."

"Shore Bird restaurant offers a nice change to your normal dinning experance. Here you will get to cook your own dinner on there large outdoor style grill. There is an unlimited salad bar with your order and it was very fresh. The cost is reasonable as most meals are under $30 plus your drinks. Our table for the night was right on the beaches edge. Next time I'm in town I will return."

"Disappointing visit. Made reservations with 3 restaurants this week - Shore Bird, PF Chang's and Dukes. The latter 2 were busier and yet we received seating with the best view in the best sections. Here we were seated at the back near a table clearing station. Was ignored by all for 10 minutes after being seated. We love the Shore Bird. Always visit when we vacation. Worst table and worst service we have ever encountered there. Disappointing."

"This is a cook your own meat & salad bar restaurant. The location is key. It is located right off of the beach and is open later than other near by options. Nothing was outstanding, except for one woman singing karaoke. Go for the convenience & relaxed atmosphere on the beach."

"I was looking forward to this dining experience. But I was quickly taken back how smokey the area was, which made it a very uncomfortable atmosphere. I found the tables too small as we were still enjoying our salad and the server came out with the meat, there was no where to put anything. I felt like i was eating with my jacket on. The meat was very grizzly and somewhat tough. No need to order sides as the salad bar was delicious. Most likely would not return. I would recommend for the experience, as it was a interesting. Oh ya, bus person likes to throw cutlery around."

"I had requested a table in the window on the beach when I made my reservation and the staff at Shore Bird delivered. It was a wonderful setting for my first breakfast in Waikiki -- right on the beach with a great view of Diamond Head. As always, the buffet was great. The fruit is always fresh and delicious (why can't papaya taste that good anywhere else?), and the selection is terrific. Thank you for starting my vacation on just the right note!"
