At Operacaffe we are passionate about our culinary business and our customers. The reputation for excellent cuisine, top-notch service, the quality and freshness of ingredients are the reasons we are so proud of our brand new restaurant
"I was expecting a bigger, fancier place, so was a little disheartened at first. I was also thinking there would be live music. They have a small stage w/piano, but there was nothing going on when we were there on a Friday night at 6:30 - 8. The wait staff were very pleasant & took good care of us. When the bread arrived, my husband & I agreed that we could make a meal just with that & the extraordinary balsamic vinegar and oil! Very quickly, our meals arrived .... outstanding! For dessert, we each had spumoni ice cream. It was by far the very best we've ever had (& we've had quite a lot). When we left, we were feeling quite fat and happy. (o:"

"I love this reataurant, but very sensitive to the noise. We sat really close to the Opera singers and it really hurt my ears. :( other than that I loved it."

"Went on Tuesday night @ 6:00. Place was empty. We were early (6:30) reservation. Place filled up a little by the time we left. Gas lamp district was very quiet, in general . Here on business from Pittsburgh. Maybe whole area is more geared to Late night. Food, service, both very good."

"The food is extraordinary! It is like eating in Florence. The night we were there, there was an accordian player performing, which made it that much more authentic Italian. The service at OperaCaffe is outstanding."

"We went as a group of 8. All but 1 of us ordered a pasta dish and all of us agreed that the portion size s were just right and cooked perfectly and not not over sauced. The 1 person who ordered the salmon said it was cooked perfect too. Would recommend this restaurant."

"Great food, that's for sure. However, the waiting time for your food is sooo long that if you don't have an interesting conversation with your party it might seem like forever. Still, the food is worth waiting."

"Food was good and our waiter was great. Always had water and bread refills before we could ask. I think the price was a little high $200 for 5 people for dinner with 2 appetizers and no dessert. Also they added 18% gratuity which seemed unreasonable."

"Great lunch specials menu that include appropriate size serving of appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. Went back for dinner the next night. Like Fourth Street, Gaslamp Quarter location better than Fifth Street - still plenty of people watching opportunity but less frantic. Great northern Italian food."

"We were visiting from the East. and this place was an Outstanding place from hostess to ending. Food was great and all four of us thought their meals were outstanding. The appetizers were perfect. Service was spot on. Highly recommend this place. The hostess even stood in the street afterwards and hailed a cab."

"Operacaffe is my favorite Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp. It is family owned and operated and they treat you like family when you dine there. I always have the pear salad. I tried the Salmon entree this time. Perfect!!! It just doesn't get any better. I have never had anything at Operacaffe that I would recommend to a good friend."

"We ordered the caprese salad as appetizer: full fresh delicious ball of mozzarella; with pepper basil, not my preference. As main course: the Pappardelle Bolognese and the Halibut. The Pappardelle was delicious, made with homemade pasta and cooked al dente. The halibut was overcooked and tasted like frozen fish. We returned it and basically got the same thing back. The host and the waiter were as far as Italian you could find, both in demeanor, language and appearance. Our waiter was knowledgeable of the menu - but the multiple piercings were inappropriate for a pricey restaurant. The host wore jeans and a sweater. Finally and foremost, the food was terribly overpriced. Visit San Diego's Little Italy for better food, service and prices."

"The food was delectable. Everyone at my table emptied their plates. The service was also very good. The water glasses were constantly full and the waiter was very attentive. We'll be back for sure."

"This was our third experience dining at Opercaffe and it's now officially our favorite Italian restaurant in SD. The food is consistently excellent: this time I had the duck ragu with truffle oil. Yum! My husband had the veal parm and he raved about it. My friend had the lemon chicken for the 2nd time and she said it was at least as good as she remembered it. The service was great; servers are knowledgeable, pleasant and attentive. The only disappointment is that it's a small place and the kitchen radiates quite a bit of heat, so it can get pretty warm in the restaurant. Upon request, the hostess was great about leaving the smaller of the entrance doors open for us."
