A local landmark and beloved culinary institution, the historic and charming Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern features five magnificently restored dining rooms and a stylish Library bar. This neighborhood gem offers a modern take of classic American cuisine, with an emphasis on locally sourced, farm fresh produce and sustainable ingredients. Its upscale atmosphere is family friendly, with a more relaxed smart casual dress code.
"After a 20+ year hiatus my husband and I returned to the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn. We enjoyed our dinner, server professional, pacing was appropriate, food tasty. Menu could be a bit more 'inventive', Took about 5 minutes after sitting at the bar to engage the bartenders but once we got their attention, service was prompt."

"When you are brought two glasses of champagne right after being seated, because they knew of our anniversary, you have a feeling it may be the start of a great night. It was. Our appetizers, crab cakes and scallops were superb. The bacon jam on top of the scallops (which were the tenderest I've ever eaten) was to die for! Our entrees (filet mignon and a pork chop) were cooked exactly as we wished. We ordered desert( Tiramisu and a raspberry-rhubarb tart), but had to doggie-bag most of it because we were stuffed. The only drawback to an otherwise great experience was that the room we were seated in (The George Washington Room) was too dark in which to read the menu properly. After dinner, the maitre'de gave us a tour of the other rooms"

"The food at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn is great and the ambience is nice but the wait staff is not friendly. I arrived and they gave us a very bad seat on the patio near the garbage area behind the building. I asked to be moved and they were less than thrilled about the request. The other tables had candles and ours did not. We had to ask for a candle. We looked demanding but, really, our table should have been set up like everyone else's. The food is good but the customer service is lacking."

"Great brunch however a little overcroded, difficult to walk up and down three flights of stairs to obtain food and then a 20% gratutity was added to check for a buffet service that I had to walk up and down three flights of stairs for!!!"

"table was ready when we arrived but we wanted to have a drink at the bar. both bars were crowded and packed so we figured it would be better to sit down at the table and enjoy our drinks at the table. the host was very accomodating and sat us down at our table. service was great, overall it was a good experience and I would recomend this restaurant. food was very good too and fish was cooked perfectly."

"We went to the inn with a group of 4,our first time there. The decor had an elegant comfort that was just right for our business dinner. We decided to graze our way through menu the that night. We started with an outstanding scallop dish and house made Buffalo mozzarella, the chef knew the proper restraint just enough pesto to compliment the freshness of the mozzarella. We also had an interesting sweet potato pierogie that hit nostalgia with eastern European flavors with a novel twist. We ordered 3 dinners and all shared, black cod was excellent fresh and yummy but the pork chop hit a home run, juicy and full of flavor served with braised cabbage and cheese polenta. Service was prompt and easygoing. I found my goto restaurant in Bergen count"

"We choose the Inn for our Wedding Anniversary and had a wonderful time. Sunday was a quite time at the Inn and we were seated and immediately served a glass of champagne on the house to start the celebration! Our waiter was attentive but not hovering and we appreciated that. My husband choose the Washington State oysters and loved them. Coming from Berlin, Germany, I noticed the steak tartar on the menu and had to order it. The meat was fresh and I enjoyed this special treat. Both of us choose the fish on the menu; blackened cod and halibut. The fish was perfectly cooked. We had a leisurely meal to celebrate our special day and look forward to our next visit!"

"Our first time at the Inn and the only complaint we had was that our table was not ready and we had to wait about 20 minutes. But we turned lemons into lemonade and had a glass of wine at the hopping bar, so no problem. The rest of the evening was fantastic; good wine list, excellent food (the short ribs, pork chop and salmon) and also good service. We sat in a smaller room upstairs with about 5 tables and a fireplace which provided a nice ambiance. Overall - we will definitely be back."

"The dining rooms are beautiful, as are the dishes. I wish I could say the same for the dress of the customers. I think there should be a simple dress code, for at least dinner, of no jeans, sweatshirts or sneakers. It detracts from the quality of the food and the surroundings for someone to be there for dinner dressed for McDonalds. They have a bar so if you want to wear jeans, go to the bar, not a beautiful dining room where someone may be celebrating a special occassion."
