As one of the first restaurants to lead the Meatpacking District’s revival, Macelleria has proven itself to be a staple in an ever-changing neighborhood. Owned and operated by Violetta and Sergio Bitici, Macelleria's rustic, Northern Italian cuisine never disappoints. Using only the finest meats and home-made pastas, each visit to Macelleria is like sitting in on a Tuscan grandmother's Sunday dinner. Drop by and you're likely to see Robert DeNiro or Jay-Z dining in the restaurant's wine cellar, constructed in-part using a 16th-century fortress.
"Warm inviting atmosphere with very friendly staff. Delicious fresh oysters, steaks, pasta and dessert! Nice wine selection too. Will be back once I digest."

"While the food was very good, the service was not. Our reservation was for 8 but we weren't seated until 845. When we asked the hostess about our table we were told she would "do her best", when we asked a different hostess she apologized and explained that it was difficult to accommodate all of the walk-ins amidst the reservations. When I asked why we should bother making reservations she shrugged her shoulders and said "I know". While the food was good, it wasn't good enough to compensate for the service. The Manager didn't even stop by the table to apologize or acknowledge what happened. Either the manager is pretty hands off or thinks highly enough of the restaurant to not care about the service."

"Another great find in NY's meat-packing district. The pasta with tomato sauce that was made for my 8-year old was divine! I ended up stealing a few bites. Everything was great...including the service."

"This is an ok place that is conveniently located, decent food, and high prices. Service is very casual. Wine list forgettable and food prepared without inspiration. Its biggest asset is its location and the history of the building and neighborhood."

"We had some friends visiting and we took them here and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was great and well prepared. Service was excellent. We had a pleasant dining experience that was over 2 1/2 hours on a Saturday night and we never felt rushed out the door as would be the case for a restaurant of this caliber. Highly recommend making a reservation at least 2 weeks before if you want a busy night."

"Very good combination of steak and pasta dishes. Grilled calamari could have been better but lasagne was outstanding. Nice selection of wines, overall good value considering how good the food was, especially for the meat packing district."

"The best lasagne I have ever tasted---so creamy! The homemade dressing on the wedge salad was wonderful with a peppercorn kick! The eggplant with mozz. cheese and marina was wonderful appetizer. True Italian with Italian speaking waiters. Began the meal with delicious homemade Italian bread."

"After reading reviews we were expecting a decent dining experience. While there wasn't anything horrible about the place, we would compare the experience to a big afternoon yawn. We had reservations at 8 and the greeting at the door was nice and the ambiance is comfortable and simple. Turns out simple and bland were what was on the menu. The wait staff was pretty slow, flat and unfriendly. We ordered a three course meal of app, salad and steak. The app was a very ample size portion of meat and cheese but was nothing more than that. The porterhouse steak for two was a very nice cut of meat and cooked exactly as ordered, but it lacked absolutely any flavor. The roasted vegetables were the same way - cooked fine but without flavor."

"I went with a group for dinner on New Years Eve. The service was on point and the food was incredible! The ambiance of the restaurant is very cool and I immediately loved it when I walked it. I had a steak and it was great! Our glasses were consistently full and they did a great job accommodating our large group! I will definitely return because I am always looking for a new restaurant to go to in the Meatpacking district!"

"3 appetizers, 5 entrees, 4 desserts, 5 cappuccinos, 2 bottles of wine = $700+$120 tip. $820 later... we were like, whoa. If the entrees are $42+/ea, the service should be GREAT. But at least the food is wonderful. Also, there were several items gone (we had a 6pm res) including our first wine choice."
