a Mano is a traditional Italian restaurant focusing on classic southern Italian food using local products. House made and cured salumi, pastas, antipasti and meats. Inspired by Italy...made in New Orleans.
"Very interesting cuisine - excellent use of herbs and unique vegetables to produce very tasty dishes. Not a tomato sauce italian restaurant - think northern Italy."

"Were impressed with this comfortable Italian restaurant, that is an easy stroll from French Quarter. My guest had the regular salad which was nicely dressed. I had the cured meat appetizer. Basically a plate full of wonderful thinly sliced house-cured prosciutto. My guest had the squid ink pasta with crawfish and I had the bucatini with guanciale. Both were outstanding, and correctly portioned. Nice list of Italian wines. Service was appropriately attentive without being overbearing. Nicely decorated; comfortable like a neighborhood place, but a bit more upscale."

"Being in the business, you know who does what they do well. Food was great and owner was helpful and charming. Server was scattered, flustered and support staff was dismissive and unhelpful. Overall, food good. Service not so much..."

"The promise that was evident when a Mano opened has been realized; the (selectively) limited menu, quality of ingredients, wine availability, staff and service were impeccable. The front of the house and their gracious attention to service was/is notable, and the kitchen's efforts were spot-on."

"Nice atmosphere with good, casual buzz. Extremely tasty Northern Italian food, from appetizers to entrees and sides. Appreciate the attention to well prepared, locally produced foods. An excellent alternative to classic New Orleans fare."

"We had lunch at A Mano on our last trip to New Orleans. The food especially the house made pastas. When I read some of the menu descriptions I was concerned about how flavor combinations might taste but everything that came out was perfect and delightly surprising. The buccatini and the spaghetti carbonara were both outstanding. There were several good accompaniments such as bruschettas and salads. Our server was wonderful as well. The restaurant was very quiet, hopefully more people find out about it and try it, because it's definitely worth it."

"Everything about the night was wonderful. the style of the restaurant is very typical of a Warehouse District restaurant with brick and concrete and the food is just excellent."

"Unusual approach to Italian foods with fresh, local ingredients and interesting flavors. I would highly recommend this place for a visitor to New Orleans who is looking for a break from traditional Louisiana foods."

"My husband and I shared 3 courses. Best were the caponata focaccia and the pasta dumplings. The rabbit was forgettable. We found annoying the chef's refusal to let us put in an appetizer order with our drinks and then decide what we wanted for the rest od the meal. Too many good places in New Orleans. We probably won't go back."

"Great food and service. Most people think of Italian food as having gobs and gobs of cheese and sauces a'la Olive Garden. A Mano is more about high quality, fresh, and locally sourced ingredients, the way Italian food was meant to be. There may not be tons of ingredients in a dish, but the taste is incredibly satisfying."

"I wasn't sure what to expect after reading the mixed reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised. The food was outstanding. Hand made pastas were really really good. Had a gnocchi special with a pork ragu. The gnocchi were like pillows - soft and light. The slow cooked pork melted in your mouth and the ragu had just a little hint of tomato. Just rightly balanced to let the pork unctuousness come through. The cavatelli with fennel sausage and beans was amazing as well. And the rabbit was perfectly cooked and the sauced just right. The general manager knew his small but good Italian wine list well and provided us with perfect pairing recommendations. Our server didn't know everything but he was able to find answers to all of our questions."

"Had dinner here our first night in New Orleans - we didn't want to go overboard because of a race the next morning, so this was a great place to carb up. Very authentic Italian - reasonable portions and not tons of sauce."

"Wonderful meal. Met before theater and had a fine leisurely dinner. Service was excellent as was the food. Everyone tried something different so we shared. The rabbit and pork meatballs were fantastic. Braise greens were to as well as the roasted beets and turnip dished."

"Good but not great. The prices are high-end but the decor certainly isn't. With that giant gaudy sculpture over the bar and the possibly fake plants everywhere it looked more like an Olive Garden than the caliber of restaurant I was expecting. However, the food was good. I had the Burratta appetizer with pickled beets and pistachio crackers which was great - I ate the whole darn thing. My second dish was the gnudi which was tasty, but far too rich to finish. My friend had the carbonara which was good but apparently nothing to write home about. There is also a good sized wine list and our Chianti was tasty. So all in all it was pleasant enough to celebrate my dear friend's birthday but I will probably not be returning anytime soon."

"We had lunch there on a Friday (their only lunch day) and it was definitely not crowded. Matter of fact, there were only a few other diners there. But that did not affect the quality of the food or the service at all. The portions were just right and outstanding in quality. Although our server was the only one handling the entire lunch crowd, he was knowledgeable, suggestive, and attentive. It was a nice relaxing lunch away from the hustle and bustle of the Quarter. It was our second time dining there and strongly recommend it to everyone who visits New Orleans. We think the best restaurants these days are in the CBD and Warehouse district. A Mano is one we'll visit on every trip we make to the city."

"The food here is so unique. The menu changes with the seasons. They use fresh local food whenever possible. The decor and ambiance are stellar. The wait staff is friendly and attentive to detail (like refilling water glasses, removing plates at appropriate times, etc). Portions are generous and not "super sized", which is a wonderful thing."

"Food was very good. Service and Portions awful. We came the evening before a half marathon to carb load. Win/Win, Fine dining and carb loading. Waiter suggested the special they had for runners. Whole table had to participate. 4 pastas/sampler at $23/pp. They brought 4 bowls to the table to split. Portion was extremely small for cost, especially vs a-la-carte. After dinner waiter was rude about splitting the bill. Keep in mind we all ordered the same thing. Never been treated that way in a fine dining restaurant. Extremely disappointing. I am not one to write bad reviews or be critical. We have enjoyed other restaurants by the same owner with great experiences before. Maybe a bad night."

"We went with a group of 11 people. The pasta carbonara was really bad and the other pasta dishes were just OK. . The rabbit and pork meatballs were tasteless and were served in a bowl of oily sauce. The swordfish was delicious."

"The food was fantastic! It was definitely one of my top meals while I was in NOLA. The service was ok. Our server was great when he was attentive but it took forever for us to get our food - and we all ordered the same thing (pasta) so it wasn't like we had big steaks that take awhile to cook. Several tables came in after us and left before us. We probably would have gotten dessert but were just tired of sitting there after 2 hrs. Still, overall delicious food, good experience. I would recommend it and come here again."

"I have been to a Mano twice now. The first time everything was excellent except the meats served for the main course, which were overcooked average-quality meats. Everything else was so good that I wanted another try to see if our first visit was a fluke. This time everything was wonderfully hand-made. Duck prosciutto in the cured-meats plate was amazing. Seafood salad awesome. Highly recommend.
Service was a single waiter and was good but not outstanding. I think that the wait staff is over-worked for a restaurant of this caliber (and price--about $100/person including two drinks per person),. This was my experience on both visits."

"Unfortunately I think that because it is an Italian restaurant, A Mano inadvertently attracts patrons who are not prepared for the level of cuisine delivered. People expecting spaghetti and red sauce should stay away. However, anyone looking for traditional regional Italian cuisine prepared exceptionally well will be in for a delightful experience.
All of the Antipasti, and Pastas are incredibly well done. I would recommend ordering a large number of these and sharing—entrees optional. The entrees are good but consist basically of just protein (i.e. no side items appear alongside the duck, rabbit, etc). For this reason, I would recommend against ordering just an appetizer and entree. Portions of all items are relatively small."
