"What a great start to our romantic evening. Everything seemed perfect from the cozy atmosphere and beautiful lighting to the live piano music playing in the background. The staff is friendly, cordial and professional. Each course comes at the right time and temperature. We each ordered the top sirloin which was cooked exactly as we requested. After the first mouth watering bite, my wife and I gave each other that look as smiles of satisfaction grew. We will be back and we are telling our friends about the affordable elegance offered at Murray's."

"Eaten: Walleye spring rolls (salty/fair), 28oz bone in porterhouse (exc.), 20oz ribeye (exc.), ceasar salad (vry gd), au gratin potatoes (nutmeg??/poor), creme brulee (vry gd), mushrooms (exc.), asparagus (exc.)

Good: Outstanding steaks! The decor and atmosphere is romantic without being too much to enjoy for non-couples. Service was generally excellent, as you would expect. Murray's also added some affordable 3 course meals to the menu (under $100 for 2).

Bad: Al la carte prices are up, and menu selections are down (inc. wine list). The meal for 2 w/$55 bottle was $199 w/tax (little less than Manny's) The busser took away my leftover steak, but I requested a box. At 7:45PM on 3/10/10 it was 75% empty which was uncomfortable."

"Went to this restaurant for the Mpls/St Paul restaurant week.Meal consisted of a spinach salad, 12 oz New York Strip, baked potato and carrot cake for dessert. "I would consider the ambiance to be somewhat dated however this may be on purpose if they are trying to retain that middle to late '40's era theme. I was unimpressed with the bread selection that came out, it seemed like standard fare and I had thought perhaps they would have a signature bread hot out of the oven. The salad was fantastic. But let's get to the meat of it, no pun intended, the main courses. I had the salmon and the wife had the 8 oz New York strip. The salmon was incredible and the multiple bites I had of my wifes steak made me wish I had chose that also! Absolutely a perfect steak. The deserts were very good also. So there you have it. Go there for the excellent food and you will not be disappointed!"

"Murray's is the best steakhouse in Minneapolis for good reason. I found the meat perfectly prepared, the waitress friendly to even us as young professionals (and potential poor tippers as being young people!), and participating in restaurant week has now made me an avid supporter. Wise choice Murray's.
The pretzel in the bread basket was a delightful surprise.
The tables are a bit too close, as larger groups of business men will move toward yelling over dinner/baseball/etc.
For a price-fixe menu, it was well worth $30. Now that I know they have a $29.95 sun-thurs special, I'll be coming more often after work."

"To start off with, the service was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The garlic bread was delicious, as was our salad. "Had a porterhouse that was outstanding (and it wasn't even a premium "Silver Butter Knife" cut), though it danced very close to, if not up and down on, that line between delicious and too salty. Hickory/bacon shrimp appetizer was crisp and flavorful. Asparagus was slightly oily but cooked just right (crisp: neither woody nor mushy).

Raspberry pie was essentially a slab of fresh raspberries -- other ingredients (presumably sugar, lemon juice, some sort of thickener) were surprisingly unobtrusive. An expensive meal, but worth it!"

"As always the food was great, although we did overdo the appetizers, so we couldn't quite finish the main course. The dinner was great, the wine was great, the atmoshpere was great. My wife was really impressed that the owner stopped by our table to thank us for coming. A really, really nice touch, and something that is all too lacking in the "chain" restaurant mentality . All in all, the experience was wonderful. I must say that while the pianist was good, I do miss the violinists. Murray's has been my favorite restaurant in Minneapolis since my first dinner there in 1968, and it has not lost a step. A lot of places in town, and the suburbs are spendier, but in my opinion, none can match it for the overall experience."

"I grew up in the Minneapolis area, but this was my first visit to the restaurant (I had spent evenings in the piano bar many years back and was disappointed to see that the bar had lost it's piano). Although the standard "chop house" food was very well prepared, the prices were very high for food that could have been more inventive. The evening was great (we were celebrating a birthday). There is a reason places like this have been around a long time - service! Our server had been at the restaurant for thirty years and was very knowledgable, attentive without being intrusive, and had a great disposition. I would eat here again, but, because of high prices, would have to make it a rare occasion."

This is an incredible deal, I don't know anywhere else where you can get the quality of food and cooking for such a reasonable price. The service is excellent, and the ambiance is classic. "Murrays is usually excellent. But I went on a budget this time. I asked about a special and the waiter said it was earlier. But when I got back home and looked at the website, it said right on the front, Friday night special for 59.99 i believe. It was a 3 course meal. We went at 730 and the waiter said nothing about this and we had to order very small just because I only brought so much money for an early valentines day dinner for my Girl friend and I downtown.

I will send them an email also. I dont make a ton of money but like to treat my girl every once in awhile. And have eaten dinner there twice so far in 2010

Youre service OPEN TABLE worked perfectly.

But Murrays was less than spectacular for my valentines date....."

"I dined at Murray's Sat. the 6th of Feb. for the first time ever. Three friends and myself were there celebrating ones doctorate degree. It was a wonderful experience. I have never had better steak(shared the NY strip for two). The asparagus was made perfect to my liking. The waiter, Shane, was very knowledgeable on wine, he steered us to a fabulous choice. He, also, would engage in conversation, an appropriate amount. I believe the others shared a similar experience. It is on the high end of what I like to spend going out to dinner, but definitely will return for special occasions."

"Murray's is a gem in the Twin Cities restaurant scene!! It is one of the few places that virtually guarantees an exceptional dining experience! "What a wonderful night. I treated my mom and Grandma to a special birthday dinner at Murray's. They both had a wonderful time and were so impressed with our server, Sharon, the pianist who didn't look at the piano, the beautiful mirrors in the dining room...pretty much everything. It was our first time dining here but we felt right at home. In fact, the mashed potatoes tasted EXACTLY like my grandma's - exactly! Overall, it was a very special night and we all can't wait to come back."

"The food and atmosphere is really good at Murray's...not sure if it worth the price, but definitely pretty good. The service, however, leaves much to be desired as our server seemed uninterested in providing recommendations and was not at all excited that we were there to celebrate my 40th birthday.

You would think that a restaurant with the reputation and heritage of a Murray's would have their choice of the best servers and wait staff in the area, but it seemed to us that our server was a cast-off from Denny's.

So, the food is pretty good, but do not go to Murray's looking for world-class service!"

"DELICIOUS! We had the friday night special - dinner for two of a tenderloin steak.
It was mouth watering delicious! Their 'famous' garlic toast was WAYYYY over powering, but we just didnt eat it then. Our waitress was ok - she quickly left our table before we could ask every question we had about the menu, and we waited for a few minutes for her to come back each time.
I put on my reservation that it was my husbands birthday - and they brought a delicious devils food cake out to us without even having to remind them that it was his birthday!
There was a piano and sax playing in the background which was nice to drown out the noise.

"My husband and I went to Murray's to celebrate my birthday. I ordered the tenderloin medallions. They were cooked to perfection (I ordered medium rare) and were so tender they practically melted in my mouth. The tenderloins were served with truffled mushrooms which were salty and wonderful. My husband had the NY Strip which was also tender and delicious. We finished the meal with a piece of their beautiful raspberry pie. I think it was the best piece of pie I've ever had in my life. Somehow they managed to keep the raspberries whole and firm, and piled at least 4 inches high. The crust was amazingly flavorful and flaky. Give Murryh's a try for your next special night out."

"Too often you hear of things that don't live up to their reputation. This is not the case with Murray's. We went in with high expectations and were not disappointed. "I travel all over the Country and eat at many fine Steakhouses. Murray's is my favorite Steakhouse anywhere. The filet mignon is the best cut of beef that I have ever eaten. The service is outstanding and the atmosphere will transport you back to the 40's."

"The food was great. Ambiance good. Our server did not do a good job. No silverware on table, no plates for our bread, had to ask for both. She seems a little tired. Seemed disinterested.
I dont like picking on people but if she would just had done her normal job I would have given Murray's 5 stars. I will recommend people to go there. We enjoyed it."

"Saturday night was very crowded and noisy. Food was good but not exceptional as our last dinner of the $94 butter knife steak for two. The steak was very tasty but had too much gristle. A bottle of Sterling Cabernet was $60 which was the same as I bought on special for $12 earlier in the afternoon at the liquor store. They bought a small cake for a special occasion that tasted dry with little or no frosting. All around it was not worth the cost. We went there expecting outstanding and were served OK."

"Will not return. Great food that was served hot, but very expensive and service that does not match the high cost of the menu. At this cost, I want to be treated like royalty, not like I am sitting at the counter of a diner.
Beware, the menu is not clear and seems to indicate that you will receive a soup or salad, and a potato. In actuality it is a choice of ONE of the items and the wait staff did not clarify this at the time of order. I had my eye on a pear salad and was going to order it, then thought, "Well if the house salad is included, I will just get that..." When the house salads appeared our bill, we brought it to the attention of the waitress. She agreed the menu was unclear, but only credited one of the salads."

"Murray's has stood the test of time. It is not trendy, but it is comfortable. Over the course of 40 years I have never had a bad meal there. I don't mind expensive if the food is great. At Murray's, the food is great. The piano player is great, knows all the wonderful standards."
