"We very much enjoyed our lunch at Farmstead on our way back from the Napa Valley. It's on the southern outskirts of downtown St. Helena, next to a winery and a small farm. Food was very good, though the roasted artichoke was a bit too burned and dried out. (Wood fires too much all the rage these days!) The desserts, a very fresh and fragrant strawberry sorbet, and a luscious olive oil cake with vanilla gelato were to die for! The only drawback was our lackluster service, adequate, but not on a par with the setting or food."

"Our party had Mother's Day dinner at Farmstead. Although the food was good, wiater forgot to give one order to kitchen, resulting in delay for serving one memeber of party. Also, waiter seemed perturbed that elderly mother was having only portion of salad and soup, rahter than a full dinner. Otherwise, food was quite good and outdoor tables separated by fruit trees is a nice touch."

"Second visit here. First time everything was wonderful. This time, both steaks (ordered medium rare) were a little dry and tough and the risotto was a bit oily, but the rest of the food - pork chop, salads, desserts - were excellent. Service was also excellent. We will come back again."

"Great ambience, upscale casual. Service was great, all the courses timed perfectly. Food was also great, I wouldn't say "to die for", but very good. cheddar biscuits were tasty, as well as the artichoke. Ordered the eggs benedict - most notable was the perfectly done crispy potato nuggets- kinda like french fries!! my cousin ordered the porkchop- it was perfect cooked, very juicy. Nice place for brunch, probably dinner too."

"The feel and ambiance of Farmstead was great. Food was fresh, delicious, and just great overall. The only complaint would be with the steaks. They were very chewy and hard to deal with, even Medium rare. There is much better grass fed beef out there, however everything else we had, and the seasoning on the steaks was great.
I would definitely reccomend this place, but not if your looking for a great 'steak place', but more of a
Napa/California Cuisine restaurant with rustic flare and elegant comfort."

"this was our second time eating here. the prior was for brunch, which was outstanding. this time we had lunch. the food was insanely good. best ice tea i've ever had. the ketchup was out of this world. i know it's hard to get excited about ketchup, but try this and you'll see. we ate outside under the filtered sun awnings. just terrific. our server was excellent-friendly and knowledgeable."

"The food and the cocktails made up for the "fair" service. We had to remind our server on 3 separate occasions that we were missing our drink orders. In addition, another server dropped off an appetizer that we didn't order and it took several minutes and the waving of our hands to catch our servers' attention to this. Also, the appetizer that we did order - never came. It's a good thing we each ordered a starter to our main course. The food was outstanding! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal and we didn't let the deficiency in service shadow the quality of the food. We would definitely come back and hope that this was just an isolated incident in regards to the service, since I have been here twice before with no incident."

"Felt we were given less desirable table right by door because we were open table reservation....another 4 top available which we asked to switch to but said they could not. Rushed through apps and salad, then quite a wait for main dish. Restaurant made a point when we checked in to say they recognized we had a vegetarian dining with us but never offered her different menu or suggested options off the menu. Service was not particularly attentive. Not bad but not the experience we had expected from what we had heard about this restaurant."

"Dined at Farmstead with 4 couples Service was perfect. The appetzers were good but the mains were outstanding! Several of us had the sole ( myself included) that was an amazing flavour blend. I can't stop thinking about it and am longing to go back! Another friend had the trout and feels the same! The bar scene and restaurant had a lot of local farmers vintners. Always a good sign. "Came here for me and my gf's anniversary for brunch after a night in Napa and it was such a delight to find something so quaint and very rustic in a not very pretentious setting. The Mimosas were fresh OJ, the bacon was perfectly crispy, and the cinnamon rolls were fantastic. "Four of us had dinner together... table was ready when we arrived in a perfect spot. My wife and the other couple ordered grilled artichoke... excellent choice. I skipped the appetizer because the smoked St Louis ribs was a full rack... and it was outstanding.
We brought a 2010 Broman Sauvignon Blanc; the $2 (amazing!) corkage fee is donated to local charity. Restaurant wine selection was also excellent with several local wineries represented. We chose 2009 Shypoke Charbono... I haven't had this grape variety in years. This winery owns a large percentage of the remaining worldwide acreage! The wine was terrific. Order it to help them stay in business!
We will be back the next time we're in St Helena."

"Our food was extremely great. But our server was horrible. He was very short and curt with us. We had our 2 yr old daughter with us and his attitude with us was very poor. The other guests around us were treated much better then us. He did not give us his time at all. And when he did it was very short, did not explain or go over the menu well with us like he had with his other guests around us. We left feeling that he was judging us on our age. His name is Ohadd. He did not deserve the tip that we left him. For such a great restaurant we had a horrible server. I hope that the restaurant can find someone who is much better then him."

"Farmstead serves wonderfully, fresh & fantastic tasting food in a beautiful setting with happy & friendly wait-staff. The soup & salads were creative and the beef was DELICIOUS. Every dish that we saw served looked inviting, well-proportioned. The grounds and gardens are lovely to walk through and the wine/olive oil tastings were another treat. It was by far, one of the best meals we've had this week in the Napa valley. Hoping to try it again before we head home."

"We live in Northern Napa County part time, and this is BY FAR, our favorite restaurant in the area. Not only is the food always top notch, the atmosphere can't be beat (two great outdoor seating areas) and there's a cool vibe that is unmatched anywhere in the area. Farmstead's charm is in no small part due to Chef Kipp Ramsey, who always makes guests feel at home and pampered with his unique Southern hospitality. My husband and I give Farmstead top marks for all categories: date nights with just the two of us, for special occasions, for dinners with local friends, and visiting guests. It's the rare place that feels like a celebration in a low-key atmosphere."

"One would think that a restaurant that has its own 650 acre cattle ranch would offer some sort of beef that allowed one to actually taste the beef. Their beef tartare was premixed with capers, pickles and tabasco...how are you supposed to actually taste the beef through all that? The beef carpachio was buried in a mountain of arugula and over-sauced, once again making it almost impossible to taste an already mild cut. The other offerings from their own grass fed beef included meatballs, chili, and burgers...once again with the dreaded overpowering arugula. The special of the evening was chicken fried steak, IMHO an abomination to a good piece of beef. Good beef stands out on its own, but the diner was not able to experience this."

"Our party of six arrived for a Sunday morning brunch reservation about 30 minutes early (or, about 15 minutes after the restaurant opened). After a brief wait, we were escorted to a metal table and small metal chairs that looked more suitable to pre-teens people (not adults) right in the middle of a doorway that accessed the outdoor seating area (there were two such tables, and both were clearly added as an afterthought because they were the only such furniture inside). We asked if there was a better location that could accomodate us and, after initially saying no other spots were available (there were only eight other people in the restaurant at the time) and that everything was reserved for other parties, our hostess finally moved us to"

"We came here for dinner on our honeymoon. It was so incredibly good, we will never forget the meatballs, the margaritas and especially the ribs. The service was fantastic, it was a great location, great space and they grow / farm raise pretty much everything they serve. After going to the Michelin starred restaurants in napa, we felt more satisfied and happier coming out of farmstead ( not to mention our wallets )

"This was a return visit for us. My husband and I enjoy the hospitality and great food at Farmstead. The grounds are beautiful as well. The decor is a combination of modern styling and rustic charm that we find appealing.
After our first visit we were informed of, and equally impressed by, their no corkage policy. A fee of $2 per bottle is donated to a local nonprofit organization toward community improvement each month.
We found the chili and the pulled pork sandwich to be both flavorful and satisfying. The cookies and the pan grilled olive cake were fabulous choices for dessert."

"Wow this place rocks. I went for Sunday brunch and I can't wait to go back for dinner. They make fabulous fun cocktails. I had the biscuits and gravy and the hash for brunch and I thought about my meal for days!! We took our 22 month old and the service was fabulous! We saw couples having a nice romantic lunch!! "We arrived when it first opened on a Monday so there was just one other couple. The waitress was very helpful as I wasn't sure what to order. My husband tried the trout, which was the best he had ever had and that's saying something from him as he likes to go fishing for trout.

"Definitely one of my top 3 dining experiences in Napa Valley (and I've eaten at most restaurants in the valley). The food was spectacular, very innovative (the best steak tartare of anywhere), masterfully prepared food. An overall very down-to-earth place to go. Ambience very fitting to the location. Although it was quite busy,service was timely, humble, observant, honest and just plain nice. No corkage fee! You won't find pretentious here. It's just perfect all around!"

We had a young waitress who was very nice and doing her best but she was struggling and had to ask the manager for help several times. The pork chop dinner was exceptional and the wine list impressive. High energy and fun restaurant and we would recommend it for sure."

"Great fun place. Called ahead to see if they had any vegan food. They said they had quite a few things they could alter to make them vegan. We went...they had two. Some good sides that worked, but we didn't think to tell them not to bathe the food in olive oil, so that was disappointing. Definately good food, fun, friendly place, but be careful when you order!"
