High ceilings, geometric brickwork, hanging lights, and gracefully curved dining room create a sleekly intimate atmosphere at this upscale Japanese restaurant and lounge. Along with a sushi bar offering the freshest seasonal seafood in town, Bluefin's lunch and dinner menus offer deliciously prepared starters and entrees from noodles, teriyaki and bento boxes to Kobe beef and premium Japanese Wagyu beef dishes. Numerous varieties of sake, original house-crafted cocktails, and a generous sampling of domestic, Japanese and other wines and beers complete your evening. Just a short walk from the Sharks and other events at the HP Pavillion.
"Age dashi tofu should have a thin batter layer, and only the gentlest handling should keep the tofu from falling apart between chopsticks. Instead, the dish that I got was covered with armor with a constancy of stale toffee and thickness of tempura batter. The tofu itself had the consistency of rubber that is only found in the cheapest industrial sort. If you want to have Japanese food, go elsewhere."

"We don't know the San Jose area and were happy to find this great sushi restaurant with in walking distance to the HP pavilion. My husband and I had a great meal and bottle of wine. Would return again!"

"This place was awesome! Loved the decor and ambiance. The waiter was friendly and polite. But most importantly, the food was amazing!! A little warning for people like myself who can't do spicy food well. Some of their rolls were spicy and not labeled as such on the menu. It's probably best to ask. I had made a reservation for this place and they had it ready early and labeled for me before I walked in. It is a small place so getting a reservation would be important on the weekend but there was hardly anyone there on a Tuesday night. They had this awesome bar/lounge scene behind the booths that I would definelty come back to explore."

"BlueFin's food, service and indoor atmosphere call for a full house EVERY night, but especially on a Friday night. It could be a fantastic neighborhood hangout for all local residence!
BlueFin served everything from kid-friendly California Spring Rolls which my daughter, (age 9) gobbled down her entire meal. They also serve the exotic plates of Japanese cuisine my husband adores.
Our sushi arrived beautifully displayed, tasted amazing. it arrived in a timely, yet we had the perfect amount of time to enjoy a cocktail or two.
Blue Fin is a must-go!"

"The service was sooooooooo slow. There were 3 of us. The first diner got his entire meal - appetizer and main course before the other 2 were even served. Then I got my complete meal about 10 minutes later. My husband never got his meal - we had to ask for it! They even forgot an appetizer. Worst service ever! Maybe they should spend less time huddled and chatting in the kitchen / prep area and actually serve the diners. Not once did they refill water either. We eat out quite a bit so we are very familiar with with restaurant service. We have even eaten here many times in the past. Never again!!! I will never recommend Blue Fin again! Not one apology for the missed appetizer and the slow obnoxious service. Get your act together Blue Fin!!!"

"Server kept forgetting our order, made mistakes on our order, and did not check on us. Took 45 minutes to be served. Food was pretty good, but not amazing considering the price and wait time."

"Wonderful Japanese restaurant within a block of the HP Arena. The service was excellent both times we have eaten there. They understand that we needed to make it to the Sharks game and there was no issue with waiting for a course or the bill to be delivered. The food itself was wonderfully prepared with every piece of sushi fresh and flavorful."

"Excellent meal but quite pricey. New riffs on Japanese with absolutely best fish. Bill came to 250 without drinks for four of us. It should be rated $$$$. So loud before the Sharks game that we couldn't hear across the table but it quieted some once the game crowd left."

"We had an terrific time. The quality of the fish is outstanding, especially the hon maguro that I would travel miles to eat (I traveled 40). The specialty rolls are creative, very tasty, and pleasing to the eye. The service is attentive and genuinely "all smiles." Highly recommended for a special experience."

"I went to BlueFin with my team from work and we all had a blast. The cocktails and food were great and very nicely presented. The restaurant was clean and service was great. There were also not many customers at the time so we did have one waitress nearly all to our table. All in all, BlueFin is a great place for casual and more romantic dining and I was very pleased with my experience there."

"Busy night at the Pavilion, but staff was unorganized and it showed. People seated after us got food and drinks. Had to flag down staff and "remind" them we were waiting. 3x, first for an order, then for drinks, then to get our food. We were in the black hole table, right in the middle of the floor. Drinks were wrong, completely lost in translation. I love the food and typically sit at bar and order direct, but staff needs serious help. Embarassing."
