"For a restaurant with such rave reviews for its food, our meal at Bayona was very disappointing. The membrane had not been removed from the back of the lamb, so it was tough to cut and to chew, until I cut it off myself. The portion of meat was fine, but I got exactly six small string beans, despite having requested additional vegetables in lieu of potatoes. My wife got the potatoes, all four tiny bits of them. The glazed carrot cake was dry and tasteless and the crust of my wife's torte was thick and tough, although the filling was very good. Great atmosphere, good service, disappointing food."

"I was in Nola for a quick vacation and a friend recommended Bayona. It was delicious! I was alone, which means I usually will sit at the bar. However, they do not serve food in the "lounge" so I had to sit at a table. I find that often I don't get very good service at a table flying solo. Not the case here! The Sarah and Tyler (waiters) were attentive and helpful. They both knew the menu well, including the menu specials. Sarah ever helped me pick a dessert, which was delicious homemade ice cream. I'm definitely a fan of this restaurant and will return on my next trip!"

"We dined at Bayona on Mother's Day. The food and atmosphere were top notch. The service also was very good. Our only complaint was that it seemed like the kitchen was a little overwhelmed. We were seated for about 3 hours, which is a bit too long. Again, the staff was extremely helpful and apologetic, but we certainly noticed some delays out of the kitchen. When we did get the food, everything was excellent. The Bloody Mary's are some of the best I've had. I still think Bayona is one of the gems of New Orleans. Susan Spicer just does it right!"

"Our dinner here was delicious. We had the goat cheese crouton and the ahi tuna to start and they were both really tasty. The goat cheese crouton in particular was fantastic. I could eat that dish every day. I had the grilled opah for an entree and it ranked among the top 3 fish dishes I have ever had. My friend had the lamb and she loved it, too. The service was good, but it took a while to get our drinks. My only complaint about the food would be the dessert. We ordered two desserts and they were fine, but just were not up to the caliber of the rest of the meal. I am also a big fan of their cucumber julep. So refreshing! I would eat here again in a heartbeat!"

"First time I've tried it and instantly became one of my top five restaurants in the Quarter. This one is not to be missed. I live in Baton Rouge and visit New Orleans often. Reservations have been hard to secure and now I know why. I recommend you dont miss this one even if you have to book an earlier or later than usual time. You won't be disappointed."

"Ask to sit out in the courtyard - it is absolutely beautiful! You can't hear the noise of bourbon street at all. The one major critique I had read about Bayona was that service/wait wasn't great. So I want to clarify: if you would like to have a quick in-and-out meal, don't waste your money here - go to a fast food place on bourbon street. But if you would like to have an enjoyable evening, amazing food and ambiance, this place is great. The service is somewhat leisurely, but it is not at all inattentive or slow. Our waitress introduced herself, went through the menu, made suggestions, made suggestions about the wine list. We had 3 courses in just under 2 hours - it never felt like we were waiting or that the food was taking to long etc."

"We first dined at Bayona during our honeymoon in 1999, then again in 2005 and looked forward to another visit. We had the chance to dine on the patio, which was lovely and a perfect night for it. The food is always wonderful, although I believe I enjoyed it a tiny bit more on our previous visits.....but my perception could be skewed by another restaurant we dined at the night before and were blown away with. The menu usually features some tip of the hat to mediterrainian cuisine and seasonings. Service was prompt, courteous and professional. Excellent cocktail selections and wine list. Always recommended to anyone heading to New Orleans."

"Enjoyed a delicious meal on a Monday evening. I arrived early due to a glitch. The hostess was gracious and offered to seat my party when we assembled. There was a gentle buzz to the dining room allowing us to talk in a normal voice. Ambience very nice. Menu with specials and regulars. Good variety. Having eaten well all week, we opted for small plates and a shared salad. There was no hesitation from the wait staff. Opening cesar salad was ample to start. The Oyster Stew was creamy and delightful. It was chock full of oysters and flavor. I had the Veal Sweetbreads with caper and lemon sauce. Sublimely tasty. Dessert of chocolate tart with Earl Grey ice cream and Chocolate Flan. Wonderful meal. I would return without hesitation."

"As a chef, I can find myself being very critical going out to dinner, especially at a fine dinning establishment. Dinner and service were both exceptional. The wine recommendation was perfect. They even brought dessert with a candle for my sisters birthday even though we didn't say anything to the waiter, they must have overheard us mention it at the table, now that's attentive service. And I cannot say it enough, the food was amazing."

"We returned to Bayona this year anticipating another great meal. and we were so right. The meal was enhanced by a mistake.
When my entree arrived, my sister received a dish she had not ordered. The server, when we pointed out the problem, immediately took her dish away. Within sixty seconds our waiter appeared with a complimentary bowl of gumbo for my sister to enjoy while they prepared the dish she had actually ordered. We continued our meal, her entree quickly arrived, and every bite, including the gumbo, was delicious. A great waiter smoothly handled a hiccup and charmed customers while delivering a great meal in a lovely location."

"If you know you'll be in New Orleans, be sure to set up a reservation at Banyona during your visit. Or server was genuinely helpful and we had a superb dining experience that included three delightful tapas that we chose from an abbreviated menu. I love this. Why do an extensive menu mediocre, but instead to your BEST dishes only and offer them in tapas style! Open Table makes reservations a snap. Its unfortunate more restaurants aren't this simple to enjoy simply because you couldn't get into them. The food was terrific and I look forward to returning for dinner. I loved it."

"Actually, we were disappointed with the food, as expected something wonderful at Bayona's; started to go to August or R'evolution; wish we had. The Rabbit Liver and Sweetbreads were excellent but everything else ordinary. My green salad was swimming in dressing and three of us had your skirt steak, which we found to be quite tough and ordinary; actually not as good as Superior Grill's skirt steak. We remember a great lunch experience in the past,so thought we'd bring out-of-town guests there. We eat out a lot in New Orleans. Don't think you're on my 'special' list any longer. Susan needs to check the kitchen out."

"We had a wonderful dining experience at Bayona's. Everything from the food to the service was excellent. I had two of signature dishes; the cream of garlic soup and the salmon and both were excellent. My husband had the sweetbreads as an appetizer, the Bayona salad and a fish special as his entree. He commented that the sweetbreads were so delicious; he wished he had ordered them as an entree. Everything was expertly prepared and presented and the service was extremely attentive."

"This was a return to Bayona for me and my wife, following a very positive visit in October 2008. This time, the service was uneven, with unexplained and unacceptably lengthy delays in receiving our food orders and consistently spotty service. Of real concern was the lack of attention by management and servers to a large group of exceptionally noisy, intoxicated, and rude diners in the upstairs dining room, which made dinner for all other diners in the room very unpleasant and distracting. Our guests, who are New Orleans residents, frequent diners at Bayona, and have recommended the restaurant to many over the years, were understandably embarrassed and upset over the atypical lapses in service and noise management."

"We were seated 35 minutes after our reservation time, despite there being open and uncleared tables the entire time we were waiting. The waiting area was a cluttered room with items stacked on the floor and a wall of mirrors reminiscent of the 80's. We were given a free appetizer for the wait, however we at first thought it was brought to the wrong table because no explanation was given. Service was just fair the remainder of the night. Salmon was undercooked, no inquiries about getting more drinks, late checking in on entree satisfaction and no checking on dessert. As for the food, the appetizer and dessert were delicious, the salmon was average and the steak was excellent. I just expected much better for the price and the reputation."

"The restaurant is located in a quaint older home. We sat outside (end of April) and the weather was perfect. The back area is romantic, but not very quiet. There is a green tarp up along the side wall and it was loud as dishes are clanking behind it. It sounded like it was a dish washing area.
We ordered the garlic soup as most reviews raved about it, but I wasn't impressed. It was good...but not great as I was expecting. My husband felt the same. Our appetizer of goat cheese crouton with mushrooms was outstanding. Our main course was lamb and it was cooked perfectly. Desset was the hazelnut tart with blueberry compote..again, it was great! I would definitely return again. Our server was very efficient and friendly."

"Went as a group of 10 (2 tables of 5), and the service was friendly and efficient. Never had to wait long to get a server's attention when something was needed. Despite some of the reviews to the contrary, everyone was pleased with every dish. The sea bass was a huge hit, the salmon quite tasty, the crab exceptional. Wine list had a lot of variety at good prices. I've read some complaints about prices here, but frankly it is on par with other NOLA standouts, and a third cheaper than NYC. I would recommend and return myself."

"The food was eccletic. I had rabbit and she had lamb for entrees. Different but good. The Quail salad was exceptionally good. A little on the slow slide but worth the wait. After eating seafood all week in NOLA, it was nice treat for something else. Would recommend for a romantic dinner."

Air conditioning dripped on us whilst dining The waitress did a lot to assist but still it was a distraction to the meal. The air conditioning unit was in the far room on ground floor and over the 5 setting table. Probably need drainage pipes to be checked out for blockage."

"Great food prepared to order with fresh seasonal vegetables that is totally worth waiting for.. The pear salad was delicious and the stake was flavorful and tender. Do not expect large portions this is the place for true palate discovery. My husband had the quail salad and rabbit dish which were fantastic.

"Dining at this landmark restaurant in the quarter was an extra cool way to spend the last night of FQF weekend. I wish I had tried to make a request for outside dining, it looks sooo cool, but maybe next time, because this is not the kind of place you only visit once. Our meal was so very good, and we ordered as much as two ladies could, and we loved everything. It's a clean and fresh approach to the dishes, even though they may have a plethora of ingredients. All of the servers inour section, and the hosts up front were enthusiastic and welcoming. Our server was very nice to let us have both sauces on the sweetbreads so we could compare and contrast, little touches make the meal even better. Great and vast wine list."

"Nowhere near what we expected. Third visit, first for dinner. Service was extremely slow and appetizer and main courses for both my wife and myself were only warm when served. They did comp us a glass of wine toward the end, but after sitting for two hours we were just ready to go. Hope we just got them on an off night, but they're off of my fave list."
