"Friendly waitress, nice patio, very nice food. This is a favorite neighborhood place for us. Outdoor seating is fully covered so you don't have to worry about an unexpected shower."

"delicious French classic cuisine. All four of us were very pleased with the bistro-try the prix-fixe for an outstanding value-you can bring your own wine which I would recommend as the wine list is very small. This is a small place-a made over house-so it is casual--try it. Everything was delicious."

"The food and service here are always consistently good. When the weather is nice, it is a treat to sit outside on the patio and enjoy your meal. The servers will not rush you and you can really have a relaxing meal."

"We had dinner--3 of us-- on a weeknight; the restaurant was not crowded and while tables on the deck looked inviting, we ate indoors as temps were borderline. We elected to order the from the prix fixe options (appetizer or salad, entre, dessert for $27.99) and had no regrets. Food was very good, well presented, and service was attentive. Wine list a bit on the expensive side. We plan to return and explore the menu. A great neighborhood bistro."

"This is my second visit and I come away thinking that it could be so much better. The food is adequate but nothing special. Plate presentation is totally lacking....why does the chocolate crepe get ice cream but not the Nutella one??? The food just looked "lost" on my plate."

"Food is mediocre at best. Beef tenderloin was very fatty. Service was absolutely horrible. Waiter was rude and didn't provide much of any service. I wouldn't not recommend this restaurant to anyone that has less than 3 hours to eat dinner. Although there is no reason dinner in this run down shack should take more than 1 hour... If you like to sit for long periods of time waiting for mediocre food, you've found the perfect spot. Honestly, I"m not sure how this place is in business."

"The staff here is always warm and inviting. The food is served in generous portions and tastes great. There is no bar service, but they have a nice wine list with great choices or you can BYOW."

"When in Houston, I always make it a point to dine at Bistro des Amis. The owner could not be a more welcoming and hospitable person, and always goes above and beyond to make the occasion special. The menu is top-to-bottom classic French bistro, and it is done to perfection. The cassoulet is worth the trip alone! The wine list is a welcome variety of interesting choices. Five stars to Bistro des Amis!"

"I wouldn't "not" recommend Bistro des Amis but I don't think I would go out of my way to recommend this restaurant. With several good French restaurants in Houston (including one about two blocks away from des Amis) Bistro des Amis needs to take everything up a notch. The entire experiences was "meh". The food was good but not outstanding. The ubiquitous side of julienned veggies was tired and the bread reminded me of the french bread loafs you can buy at the grocery store.
The service was okay but again, not great. The waiter informed us that the restaurant doesn't really have any specials even though the menu mentions several items that are "of the day". The waiter said it was always the same thing. Wine menu is also limited."

"The food was actually outstanding but we gave it 4 stars as my wifes dish was warm at best.
The service started out being excellent but as the night went on we were definitely given the impression that they just wanted us to leave, they started cleaning up around us at 9.30 !"

"We went on Valentine's Day and enjoyed a most excellent duck leg confit, with sweet potato chunks also roasted in the duck fat....over the top delicious. Succulent duck with crispy skin, done just right. The former house turned restaurant is quaint with both indoor and outdoor dining, and is a combination of casual dress with exquisite food....perfect for Houstonians' propensity to dress for hot weather while still wanting a lovely dining experience. It's a bit pricey, but worth it....but not nearly as pricey as, say, Philippe near the Galleria, so a great choice for French fare without breaking the bank altogether."

"The total lack of parking is disturbing. I would rate the lunch experience as average in all respects. Nothing stood out in my lunch experience other than it was quiet and offered a good place to have a conversation; but this was likely a result of very few patrons on the day we were there."

"The food and service was good, but not great or outstanding. There are definitely other French country restaurants in Houston that are better. The atmosphere is very quaint and homey so it would be a good place to go for a quick lunch or brunch on the patio."

"My wife and I had never had eaten at a French restaurant, so we chose Bistro des Amis ostensibly because of its convenient location. It's located in the Rice Village, which means that you have to deal with traffic, but their valet service helps immensely in this regard. We went on Valentine's Day, so we ordered from their prix fixe Valentine's Day menu. They did a good job of including "representative" French food (e.g., foie gras as an appetizer option, soupe a l'oignon as a second course option, duck confit as an entree option, creme brulee as a dessert option). I ate the more French options, while my wife ate the less French options. Overall, we had a nice introduction to French cuisine on a romantic evening with wonderful service."
