The new Flying Fish Restaurant of Old Town Alexandria presents it"s concept: "Restaurant as Art". The Flying Fish was decorated eighteen months before it's grand opening
February of 2005. All of the dining surfaces and several murals in the restaurant were tastefully painted by local fine artists with impressions of sea life, and "Great Moments".
"I chose Flying Fish based on location and favorable Open Table reviews, and have to say I was disappointed. While my fish had good flavor, it stayed on the heat probably a minute too long. My sides, though, were cold. My guest's pasta, though filled with crabmeat, was overwhelmed by the thin sauce."

"It was our first date in town. I recently moved from the Jersey shore to Alexandria to take a position in Washington. After a day of sight-seeing, my girlfriend asked for us to eat here at the Flying Fish. Our waitress was warm and gracious. The food was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We look forward to seeing you again! Best Wishes,
Greg Twyman"

"We had a screaming infant in the area we were seated in which made the overall experience generally unpleasant. Not only that, the adults with the child were oblivious to the other diners in the area as they talked in very loud voices that carried across the entire dining area. We asked our server if someone could say something to the group and we were told that that was unlikely as the party were friends of the manager. Noting our discomfort, our server took the initiative to move us to another section which proved to be much more pleasant. This was probably an isolated incident which would not keep me from returning again."

"Food was alright, but the ambiant noice was such that it was difficult to carry on a conversation. And it took forever for our cocktails to arrive, even though we ordered them right off."

"Food was delicious! We had seafood dishes that were very fresh and came out quickly. Bar service was a little slow due to volume. But was worth the wait as the drinks are delicious! Overall value was very good. Lots of variety and prices were reasonable."

"This is the third time I"ve been there and I've always been pleased. The warm breadsticks are a great way to start the meal. We had a calamari appetizer (the Rhode Island Calamari). Lots of onions, peppers (bell and jalapeño), and some andouille sausage gave it ia real kick. i've never had calamari like that before, and will certainly have it next time I go back. I had the Mahi mahi (fish of the day). I asked for the New Orleans blackened, but I"m pretty sure I was served the caribbean blackened. A little sweet for my taste, but the fish was cooked perfectly. The others in my party had the shrimp wrap and the bouillabaisse and both were very happy with them. The mango mousse cake was a fabulous end to the dinner."

"Food was ample in quality but bland. For a New England bred chef, he did a very odd take on New England food. RI Calamari does not typically contain sausage. The regular calamari was flavorless and overcooked. Entree fish also was very bland. I probably will not go back."

"This was a nice restaurant, but the food portions are not worth the price. They also ran out of a lot of the food which made it hard to find other things I would like to eat. Other than the food, I had a wonderful time."

"FRESHEST SUSHI I have found in NoVA. Granted I've only been to a few other sushi places, but the seafood around here in general is really hit or miss when it comes to freshness. I was not expecting sushi this good but was very pleasantly surprised!
We waited a bit longer than usual for our food, but I don't mind that - it was a refreshing change from the typical American restaurant hustle and bustle. Plus, our waiter brought us free wine to make up for it. Overall a wonderful experience - I will be back soon!"

"We have been dining at the Flying Fish on a regular basis for several years. The food is excellent, well prepared and served properly. The wait staff is attentive without being intrusive. The sushi bar is excellent. Be sure to check out the specials."

"The waitress was horrible. Food ok not great, I ordered the seafood shepards pie, it was exceptionally dry, flavor was ok. My wife had the shrimp and grits. Also good but not great."
