Peppercorn’s Grill and Piccolo Arancio are owned and operated by the Cialfi siblings, Sal, Dino, Tina, and Rosa. Brothers Sal and Dino purchased Peppercorn's Grill in 1989 and they, along with younger sisters Tina and Rosa opened Piccolo Arancio in 1994. This generation of Cialfi's has added modern creativity and personality to traditional strengths of their Italian upbringing. Sal and Dino were trained in the art of Italian food at their uncle's restaurant in Rome. When their uncle felt that the two brothers education was complete, he helped them open their own restaurant in Rome, Piccolo Arancio and became internationally acclaimed within their first year. Now operated by their cousins, Piccolo Arancio remains near the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Both restaurants produce award-winning cuisine and continue to receive high honors and awards. This may Marked the 10th consecutive year the both Peppercorn's Grill and Piccolo Arancio received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence
"We celebrated our anniversary at Peppercorns Grill. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant we felt the staff wanted us to feel special. Anniversary wishes came from the hostess, from the waitress and from the bartender. We were given a complimentary glass of champagne with a blackberry floating in the glass. I was impressed with the timing of how the food was brought to the table and with the food. Definitely we will return. Peppercorns is my new favorite restaurant."

"We had a fabulous dinner at Peppercorn's recently. The food was incredible, and nicely presented. Shared an antipasto plate that was the best ever: sliced meats, cheeses, little tidbits of fresh stuffed peppers, figs with cheese, fresh ricotta with truffled honey. The lobster pasta was hands-down the best we've ever tasted, and chock full of sweet lobster meat. Wine list has some nice Italian options for lesser known wines at great value.
Go! You won't be disappointed, and you'll leave feeling like it's "your" place."

"We dined here on a weekday night, celebrating a friend's birthday. Salads were ample enough to share. While our server was pleasant and tried hard to please, service was somewhat erratic. For example, when our entrees were finally served, one member of our party sat plateless for 3-5 minutes, as the rest of us waited to eat, our dinners growing cold. Two of our party sent their veal chops back to be cooked a bit more -no big deal as they were promptly returned, perfectly cooked. The manager offered those diners complimentary glasses of wine. In honor of our birthday guest, a lovely platter with a sampling of excellent desserts, garnished with fruit , was compliments of the house."

"This bright and airy spot has many regulars. Maybe it's the friendly staff, the solid menu, the nice ambiance. No skimping on the portions either. Would have rated the food a little higher, but this time - and it was a slight mishap we're sure - the osso bucco wasa bit tough. Maybe came out of the oven a little too soon. Other than that, the quality of their food is always excellent."

"Made last minute reservations for Mothers Day dinner with the family. The food and service is superb and prices are reasonable. We would not hesitate to return. Five us had dinner and each one of us enjoyed the food and conversation immensly."

"I love this restaurant, however, the kitchen was definitely off on this visit. There were some issues in the kitchen and it was an unusually long wait for the food to come. Our server was extremely apologetic and did explain the issue."

"My family and I were pleasantly surprised with Peppercorn's Grill. We were celebrating my graduation from UConn. The food was excellent. We were shocked the prices were so low. Entrees ranged from $20-$30, with most plates coming with well more than enough food. Since it was also Mother's Day, the owners had set a special menu of their mother's own authentic Italian recipes to honor her recent passing. Fantastic family-owned restaurant. Decor was nice and simple. The location wasn't the best. Plenty of free street parking is available though. This restaurant definitely deserves to be located in downtown Hartford or West Hartford."

"Peppercorns Grill has a very misleading name. Sounds like your typical bar food joint. It's quite the opposite. This place is a low key family restaurant serving authentic home cooked Italian food. The menu is inspired by "ma" and her recipes. The orange ravioli was amazing. They also have a very good antipasto for the table that can be shared. The ambiance was very relaxed. We went as a family and we were kind of loud, as the rest of the people were mostly older folk. The decor has sort of an old rustic feel to it. Service was good. Although our waitress was replaced by the bartender about 20 minutes into our meal. They were both equally very nice so I guess it's ok. Overall Peppercorns Grill is definitely worth trying out at least once."

"A call ahead of time was well-received and we were told of parking options. In addition, we were so pleased that our waitperson asked if we were going to the theater afterwards and was so concerned that we order and finish in a timely fashion. Salmon was cooked without lots of oil/butter and I was able to get double vegetable rather than a starch. Overall, a very nice introduction to a vert pleasant evening."

"Went there for a birthday dinner for my girlfriend, due to hearing some fairly good reviews. Long story short,I ordered a ribeye medium rare; came medium well. Didn't even offer to knock a beer off of the bill or anything. Hopefully the tip I left will go towards training the chef on how to properly grill a steak. :)"

"A friend and I went for an occasion lunch. We had a window seat and enjoyed the people watching. We were able to chat comfortably and enjoyed the art and colors of the decor. We found we might be able to buy the lovely bread dishes. I had thearuugula salad and fetuccini with porcini. My friend had a special I do not recall. The bread was crusty and tasty. My pasta was delicious. I regret we had no too, for dessert, because they looked delicious."

"Waitress had way too much to do, otherwise service could have been excellent. Too many tables for the space. Waitress had to squeeze past my chair to get into the service area. Time from order to delivery of main course was 65 minutes in spite of theatre engagement -- did not leave us time for coffee. Bread was mediocre and stale, olive oil was cheap generic. Salad was only passable but main course was very good. Meal was very overpriced for the quality. Wine was good. Disappointing overall despite internet recommendations. Will not be back."

"The food was excellent, if a little pricey for what it was (I thought an up charge for Buffalo mozzarella on a Caprese salad was kind of pretentious). The service was good in that our waiter was funny and nice, but there is a warning on the menu that the food at Peppercorn's takes longer than at most places, which doesn't bode we'll for a busy night. We ate pretty early, and the restaurant was practically empty, but we still waited about 1 hour for our entrees to arrive from when they were ordered. Though the wait staff was easygoing, I got the impression that the restaurant itself is a bit stuffy for the casual foodie. Food was excellent and my chocolate bread pudding was outstanding."

"Superb choices and execution of dishes. The waiter was wonderful and the meal was worth the price, which is not cheap. Menu rivaled anything in Italy. Kudos to the chef!"

"I have been to Peppercorn's before but not in a few years. After dining there again I wondered why I stayed away so long. Creative menu, deliciously prepared food and attentive service. They even had my favorite- housemade pumpkin ravioli-as a special. The only hassle is parking. I thought I recalled a free valet service but alas no such luck this time. The valet fee is $7.00 plus tip."

"Food and service were good but pricey for what you get. The Hartford Symphony Special ($21) was almost all pasta with a few cherry tomatoes and greens. A glass of Santa Margarita $12. Convenient location for going to Bushnell but will look for better value in same area next time."

"We brought some valued clients to dinner after a lengthy meeting at their offices. Tuesday was a quiet night for actvity at Peppercorns. The bar tender was friendly, pleasant, and attentive. Drinks were great. There were ten of us and one server. We ordered appetizers and a variety of dishes and all were well plated, hot, and delicious. Our server did a great job of bringing our meals to us and serving the entire group quickly and efficiently. We sat in a large side room - by ourselves as a private group. I parked on the street at the front door. There was plenty of street parking and two lots next to the restaurant."

"Went before a performance at the Bushnell. Food was very good. Waiter knew that was what we were doing, but pretty much diasappeared after serving us our meal. If we had had the opportunity, we would have ordered dessert and coffee."

"this was our second visit to Peppercorn's in a month. We usually do not venture into Hartford because of the parking problems. Luckily we were able to park directly next to the restaurant but if we had arrived later it would mean using the Valet. The food is worth the effort to get there from the suburbs."

"I have been going since 1985 and the food remains exquisite. The wine list is very special and the prices can fit everyones budget. I did my reservation online and asked for a certain table for a party of 4 and they had it waiting for us. The space in the room is perfect unlike the top restauranteur in our area who tends to cram a table every square inch. Our service was not outstanding since the place was packed and our server was working hard. They need more help on a night like that."

"What can I say other than the fact that Chef Dino and his family continue to outdo themselves time and time again. The meal started with what was probably the best lobster bisque I have ever had followed by a tender beef carpaccio appetizer served with greens, EVOO and aged cheese...mmmmmmm. The entrees were housemade lobster raviolli and gnocci. The night ended with the most amazing italian ice cream sunday served with brandied cherries... amazing!
If you can't rekindle your romance at Peppercorns you may as well hang it up!

"Great ambiance, sophisticated feel and very welcoming staff. Parking was easy and free. We ordered a variety of appetizers and it was hit or miss. Some were frankly very good and worth coming back for but some other appetizers were over salted or just not palatable, notably the ones with fish. Overall I liked it and will go back but I hope to have a better - and more even - gastronomical experience."
