Victor's 1959 Cafe is a little piece of Havana in South Minneapolis offering traditional Cuban fare such as Picadillo, Ropa Vieja, Cuban Sandwiches, Yuca frita, Sweet Plantains, Tostones, and other recipes from Cuban cuisine. "Vieja Ropa - meat was tough and the rice served with it was dry. We thought the lime marinade in the pulled pork overwhelmed the whole dish and made it way too tart. Tostones were as hard as a rock! We DID like the beef empanadas. The champagne mojito was excellent!! The best part of the whole experience was our waitress - friendly and efficient! Ambience is fun with all of the writing on every surface - but sitting on the bench in our booth, my feet did not touch the floor - and I'm a tall person!"

"The owner and the staff at Victor's are always very nice, they make you feel welcome, my diet restricts me from having gluten. The owner came to our table and expressed concern about one of the deserts that we wanted to try that it may contain gluten. Victors is very charitable to local non-profits, they support the annual Dinning Out of Life."

"This is nice and interesting neighborhood cafe-style restaurant. The empanadas and the sauce were excellent. However, I chose the lechon asada and unless you like a lot of lime flavor, it was overwhlemingly lime and bland otherwise. Everything else was okay but that really spolied my meal. The people I came with emjoyed their beef and salmon dishes more. The service was very good though."

"Great food! We loved the flavorful entree, mojito sorbet, crab cake, empanada, etc. Casual atmosphere and friendly staff a plus. It gets busy and I felt a bit crowded, mainly because the wait staff seem a bit hurried? We will come back soon!"

"I discovered this little gem years ago and have eaten there many times. This was long before Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives" and "he Food Network" did their thing. Victor's is a wonderful, bright, colorful and cozy place where the staff are knowledgable and super friendly and the food is authentic cuban. I actually feel like I'm in a small cafe in Havana when I eat there. When the weather is nice, it is also a great destination for outside dining as well. All the food is fresh and homemade and presented beautifully. I can honestly say that I have had most of the menu choices and have never been disappointed. Also, be sure and save room for cuban coffee and a fabulous dessert."

"Victors is a tiny restaurant but big on flavor. We had the Cubano Mix appetizer which was incredible. The beef empanadas were so flavorful and the cheese croquettas were sinfully delicious. There were 4 of us and we each got something different to share. The ropa viejas was amazing with fried plantains that were sweet and yummy. The pork loin was fabulous. I would have loved a double helping of meat!! The chicken stew was good and the shrimp creole had a great kick. We thought we were completely stuffed until our waitress brought the dessert menu. We all split the mango cheesecake-so smooth and delicious and the xiango chango which is cheesecake fried in small pieces and smothered in cinnamon sugar. To die for!! Wait staff was great!"

"The appetizers were horrible. We had the crab cakes, which were mush; and the fried green plantains which were SO DRY it was like trying to eat a plank of wood filled with sawdust. I could only manage 1 bite. I told the server, but she still charged us for the plantains AND had the nerve to charge us $1 for a TEENY-TINY container of creole sauce I had asked for to try & make the plantains edible. It didn't help. She then informed us that they were closing early due to weather, and though I had told her I'd wanted to order a Cuban sandwich to-go, the kitchen had already closed without her ordering it. She also didn't even bother to ask if we wanted any coffee (which my friend did) before tossing the coffee. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!"

"Outstanding food and waitstaff. We live in Chicago and visit our family in River Falls Wisconsin once a month. We go to Victor's often enough that we are always recognized when we eat there even though we live 6 hours away! Very small, but that just adds to the ambiance!"

"Food was no less than out standing, service was impeccable,
The ambiance at the restaurant was delightful
The wine list was extraordinary for the quaint size of the restaurant.
I saw it on diners drive inns and dives on cable network food channel and this is just a quaint little restaraunt in south Minneapolis, but for its size it offers one of the best cuban/ food caribbean choices I have seen in the metro area.
The appetizers are phenomenal, (I had the coconut shrimp with a dipping sauce that has a good kick ).
The salmon was awesome, glazed on a bed of spinach with sweet plantains (im not a huge plantain person but this meal changes all that) with side of spinach ( this was to die for it was soooo good)
Remember to get reservation"

"I've been going here for years. My last visit was just that, my last. While the food is still ok, the prices charged for the small portions was disappointing. Additionally, the lack of service was apparent. They forgot my salad and I had to ask for my water to be filled 5 or 6 times. Bye Victor's, I won't be back."
