"This place isn't as expensive as others in and around the city, but you get what you pay for. The sushi wasn't good. Salmon was mushy, unagi fishy, and spicy tuna odd. The yellowtail with scallion was surprisingly good considering. If you can get a table elsewhere, do it."

"We brought friends we hadn't seen in several years. The private booth was excellent for spending the evening to socialize with each other. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. "I went here for my birthday with 13 other people and had an excellent time. We got a private rom where we could be as loud as we wanted. The food was exfellent (I just had sushi), and we had 2 servers that were on their game and very friendly. It did take a whjle for the food to come out, but I am assuming that is because we had so many people. I walked by the only her tables and they also looked very good! It was a little pricy, expect to spend at least $30 especially with a drink. I would definitely go back."

"I used Open Table, which is great. However upon our arrival we were taken through a beautiful, partially full restaurant, past traditional Japanese table-rooms, past all the ambiance we had come for and to a dining are furnished more like an hotel lounge. This was disappointing, but we assumed the other tables were booked. The atmosphere was further dampened by a group of moms and tween girls who arrived, were seated separately by request and then called between tables. The food saved the evening-amazing presentation at table, beautiful and delicious-with a menu worthy of many future visits. Just do not make a reservation, as I was later to discover they seat all unspecified reservations in this dining area."

"The food was very good—the sushi was fresh, they gave good sized pieces, unlike some restaurants that give ridiculously small roles. It came above my expectations.
The place is very cute, and innovative. They had little booths for the tables and several dining rooms, making it feel smaller and thus more intimate than it actually is. Unfortunately, the service wasn't that great. It wasn't bad, but the servers were pretty inattentive and didn't really visit the table often. We had to ask for water everytime our glass was empty but I think the food makes up for the lack of service.
Overall, I think it's a great place.. If they improve the service, I would give it 5 stars."

"My husband and I went for a rare night out. We were sat quickly (we had a reservation) in an upstairs small room with several large parties, and ourselves.. With our table of 2... In the MIDDLE between all of the large parties. Although the food was amazing, it was so loud we could t hear ourselves think, let alone speak to one a other. We asked if there was another table available, but they said no (it was a Saturday night after all). I was so happy with the food ( we enjoyed the surf and turf and some sushi), but the ambience was no good for small parties."

"Although I enjoyed the dining experience of the restaurant I was very upset and disappointed that a special request was not honored. I made reservations and in the special requests section I asked for my party to be seated in one of the tatami rooms. It was my sons 18th birthday and we were trying to make it really special. When we got there and shown to a regular table I spoke with a manager about the request. He said because I didn't call them he could not honor the request. He did very little to help our situation. We were a party of 7 so the check was pretty substantial. I just felt penalized because I used open table for the booking. Our waitress was very nice and the food was really good."

"We had sushi. They were very helpful even making a special sashimi for my date that was great. The fish was very fresh but rice was however dry. Not the best sushi. Flavor was ok and except for our custom sashimi they just did not come together. The layout can provide an intimate place for a romantic date but at least the sushi is not up to it. It is also pricey."

"While the food was delicious, the experience itself was less than stellar. We had a reservation yet we were seated in what seemed like a very undesirable part of the restaurant, right near the door, and we were FREEZING the entire time, and ended up wearing our coats. The server was nice enough but it took him quite a while to come to our table to begin with and then he sort of second guessed our order. When I ordered a beer he asked me if I wanted the "light" version. Um... no. And when we ordered tuna, it seemed like he was pushing the more expensive one on us. All in all, not terrible, but it could have been better."

"My Fiance and I love to get Sushi about 3x a month and have no problem spending money on good food. We recently moved from the Sout End to Brookline so we were exited about Fugakyu. We are long lovers of Douzo downtow.
Unfortunately, we had an awful experience. To begin, we asked the waitress about any appetizers she could recommend, and she suggested something. it turned out to be the capaccio and cost $27 dollars. I believe it was the most expensive appetizer on the menu. Needless to say, she never noted the price and I guess I never dreamed an appetizer would be the price on an entree. We order various types of maki, which we absolutely awful. Each roll, Spicy Tuna, Lady Bug, softshell crab, etc - was a mushed up mess. YUCK"

"Went here with my sister after she landed at Logan. She's a vegetarian and they had lots of options for her. Started with the edamame and vegetable spring rolls. She had vegetable sushi rolls and I had the white tuna carpaccio. Unbelievable. Valet parking made it even better. I hate parking in Boston and this took all the stress away from it. They even had your car waiting for you when you left! We'll be back for sure."

"I love FuGaKyu every time I go. The food is great as well as the service. Unfortunately, we were sat upstairs by a window that was quite drafty/uncomfortable for the middle of February. We requested in our reservation a week before that we be sat in one of the private Tatami booths but they did not fulfill our request, which was a bit disappointing. Other than that our meal was very enjoyable."

"As someone who lived in Japan for 2.5 years, I have become very critical of Japanese restaurants in North America. While not fully run by Japanese staff, FuGaKyu completely nails the atmosphere and the menu. You will feel like you are eating in a Japanese restaurant with some of the most authentic-tasting food on this side of the Pacific. Almost any Japanese restaurant has Sushi and Teriyaki, but what sets FuGaKyu apart is the great selection of Nabe (and Shabu Shabu), Curry, and proper noodle soups. If you want the Japanese experience without going to Japan, this is the place you're most likely to get it at."

"I had my birthday party in one of the private rooms at Fugakyu. It was great. The waitress and the manager were super nice and my friends and I had a great time. Food as always was great and the drinks even better. Thank you"
