In the early eighties, Filiberto and Genoveva Arias came to America with a dream. Arriving from Putla, Oaxaca, Filiberto obtained a position in a local restaurant and Genoveva worked as a seamstress in a nearby factory. To make ends meet, Filiberto would cook “crispies” and sell them to the factory workers at lunchtime. From these humble beginnings, Charrito’s Restaurant was established on July 19, 1992, in Union City, New Jersey, offering a cuisine that is primarily inspired by many traditional favorites from Oaxaca. Charrito’s also offers a wide variety of rich plates native to Mexico’s adjoining 31 states. Although, its menu and its appearance has often changed in the past decade, the quality of Charrito’s cuisine and our dedication to providing an authentic Mexican dining experience remains the same.
"Very loud - we had to yell to hear each other speak. Service was very slow and didn't check on us. Water wasn't even refilled. I am concerned about the hygiene - gloves should have been worn while our tableside guac was being made. Although the food and drinks were good, we probably will not return."

"I enjoyed myself and loved the view. Not use to certain tastes like the salsa i was expecting to be more hearty but would return. Something you should try at least once."

"Love the fresh Guacomole they prepare table side. Good Mexican tasty food. The waiter was not very attentive. I had requested him to get a cake with a candle at the end of dinner because it was my husband's birthday....He completed forgot that and got a check as soon as our table was cleared off. But after reminding, he did get the cake which was excellent. So good for food, do not expect a very good service.
Ohh yes! And amazing views...Stop by on the way for a walk on the promenade...."

"the food was fantastic- very authentic. the drinks were a bit pricey for the size, although they were good. we arrived and the valet was a DISASTER, they have a very very small lot outside and there were at least 25 cars there or waiting to be parked... I went inside and checked in and then my date came in about 15 mins later... other that that the food was great, but we were a little rushed. Literally from the time we sat down until the time we got into the car was 33 mins. We had guacamole and entrees... the view was great, we will be back! Maybe not at 830 on a Saturday night though!"

"This is authentic Mexican (Oaxacan) food! The drinks are great, the view of the city lights is amazing! Wait staff is friendly and helpful. This place is always crowded because it's so great. This place is a regular for us. If your kids are good with restaurants, this is a fine place for them (no kid menu so they have to be able to eat this type of food)."

"PROs- Good mexican food.Guacomole very good and a good floor show. All entree were good. CONs- The service was fast, actually too fast our dinners were served within 5-10 minutes of orderng. It was Saturday and I think they wanted to turn tables very quickly. We ordered two rounds of margaritas that were 80% ice."

"This place is one of my favorites- food is amazing, and service is usually impeccable. We had an off-night with our server, but it won't stop us from going back. She just didn't check on us much, and there were things on our bill that weren't for our table. Can't beat the view, the energy, or the food though!"

"Nice spot. Margaritas are great. Bit of a hassle to park in the area because it's on BLVD East but they do have Valet. View of the city is very romantic."
