Most of the staff has been on board since the restaurant opened in 1970. Entering this elegant enclave is like stepping back in history. "I have eaten at Lyons numerous times over the past 5 to 10 years. Without a doubt, they serve the best Prime Rib in the Coachella Valley. This time, my experience was not as good as normal.

The restaurant was closing the next day for the summer months. They were out of nearly everything on the menu. The restaurant was understaffed and had many more customers than they had expected.

We waited 45 minutes for cocktails. Many of the side dishes that were on the menu… And we were promised… Never showed up. We got tired of hearing "we just ran out." Our waitress was extremely professional and embarrassed.

I will return when they reopen. But this will be the last chance I give them."

"I have always wanted to try this Restaurant. I read other reviews and went with no great expectations. Based on that, I was not disappointed. It is a funky old Palm Springs Restaurant sealed in a time capsule of the 1970's. As long as you go knowing and accepting that, you have no reason to write a bad review. It is, what it is."

"Been driving by for over 40 years. We figured it was about time we went in and tried it. First the good points; the service was impeccable, and attentive. The shrimp cocktail was excellent, spicy with a good balance of horseradish and 5 exremely large shrimp. The martini was big enough for three people (but I forced myself to drink it by myself).
Main Courses: These were not memorable. Roast beef, beef wellington and lamb shank were fine, but nothing I would drive out of my way to get.

Decor: Getting dated. The springs in the bench seat had long since collapsed, leaving me feeling like a child needing a phonebook. Plastic tablecloth.

Price: $170 for three with 2 cocktails, 2 appetizers and one desert is pushing it."

"We loved Lyons. We had reservations and were seated immediately when we arrived. Staff was awesome. They looked like they were enjoying being there and serving us. Very nice live music - piano and vocals were great and not too loud so we were still able to talk and enjoy dinner. Excellent menu with items you don't see every day. Food was very good. My fish was okay (I wouldn't order it again), but my husband's prime rib was one of best he has ever had. We will definitely go again the next time we are in Palm Springs."

"A fine old gem of a restaurant. We enjoyed every minute of our meal. We both had the prime rib, it was tender and very flavorful. We also enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms and garlic toast for starters. And the navy bean soup that came with the meal was fresh and homemade tasting.

The decor is a bit old and dated, but that in itself is charming in a way. My only quibble would be, while the restaurant emphisising it's "English-ness" there are only a couple of English foods on the menu. Where's the bangers and mash? Shepard's Pie? And why does an English restaurant have italian food? Funny thing, I bet their chicken piccata is pretty good, but it just seems a bit strange to see it on the menu.

Bottomline, I would definately go back."

"For the amount of time this restaurant has been in Palms Springs, I expected a nicer ambience and better prime rib. I usually lie an "end" cut, which is usually "medium", tender , flavorful, and with the crusty bits on the outside. My portion at Lyons was tough with gristle instead of marbling and was pretty flavorless. Considering there are newer, much better steak houses in the area, Lyons needs to upgrade chefs. It may be that Lyons caters to older seniors mostly, and in that case, the clientele may not be that particular."

"It's not worth a visit. Their prime rib is not as good as Carrow's & is twice as expensive. The 'au jus' was over-spiced with stale, dried, spce & ruined whatever it contacted. The Yorkshire pudding is best avoided - it was filled with scrambled eggs. The mixed veggies was not too bad. My caeser salad was over-dressed & the onion soup over-salted. The wine list is all but non-existent & we opted out desert - can you blame us?. We hadn't eaten at this place for several years & will never go back."

"This was the first time for us at the restaurant. We were seated right away, and our server arrived just a couple of minutes later. We both had prime rib- cooked perfect! Dinner included soup or salad, mashed potatoes, and vegtables. A very nice change from an a la carte menu!! Service was very good, and we definately will go back!!"
