"This was my third visit to Sonoma Grill and the first time with a large group. We were seated promptly and the service was great! My out of town guest were very impressed. There was a Jazz Jam session that evening and was still able to enjoy the music with the large crowd that evening."

"I have enjoyed Sonoma Grille before with friends and family on several occasions. I recently took my good friend there before a show at the Benedum. It was a girl's night out and SG did not disappoint! The food was flavorful, the menu unusual, the service superior! We were even given free dessert becuase I was a return client - nice touch on behalf of the managers who stopped by our table to assure that all was well. I will return as often as the experience is so wonderful!"

"The service was fast (swift) and surely friendly, after all we were in a it of a rush to get to the Pittsburgh Three Rivers Arts Festival Saturday afternoon. My lunch was excellent but my partners was a bit dry and over done as he was not displeased but not as happy as I was. The place definitely looks like it came from California and the menu provides plenty of spices and add-ons to fill any palate. Surely we'll be going again."

"Our waiter, James, went above and beyond to make our evening memorable. We'll go back solely based on his service. The other 3 wait staff trying to help detracted a bit from the experience. Food was pretty slow coming out and didn't seem too busy. The Chef had chosen to re-prepare our meals. A nice touch. The wait was well worth it - great food. Great food and amazing wine list and it's a Pittsburgh favorite!"

"Requested a small portion of pappardelle with lamb bolognese, which was not in the menu and they accommodated with a very well cooked "al dente" pasta. That is such a rarety that I had to praise the waitr and chef on spot. THe hog study crab cakes with tamarind sauce was enjoyed thoroughly by my other guests. Desert was also decadent and luscious caramel mousse cake covered in hArd granache. We had glassses of our our favorite Conundrum white wine to our hearts content. Staff was prompt courteous and ready. The toppers are the,nice comfortable chairs. Highly recommend it."

"My wife and I absolutely love Sonoma Grille, as do our friends who have been there. The food, bar, and service are first class. This past week my wife and I celebrated ten years of marriage. Our server, upon arrival, asked if a special occasion brought us in. We replied that it was our anniversary. Moments later we were offered a champagne toast. That's top notch in my book. We don't frequent many restaurants with our busy schedule, so it's hard to compare, but we love this place. And we are not big on wine, although we are learning, so this too is hard to rate. Although the server at the bar was extremely helpful in helping us decide on a selection, offering samples. She was very patient and knowledgable. Just a great experience."

"The Study of Hog and the wolfish special were both incredible. Not being wine experts, our server guided us both to great wine choices, providing several samples before we landed on the one we each loved. Exceptional service!
I was a bit disappointed in the desserts, which seemed to be overly complicated at the expense of great flavor. We tried the peanut butter creme brulee (with a less than crisp shell and a very heavy, cold texture), and the salted caramel mousse (with an odd side of chocolate ice cream that didn't really fit the flavor at all). Both dishes were good, but not great.
My suggestion is to take your time, focus on wine, appetizers and the entrees. Dessert is unnecessary."

"Finding a venue for a college grauation dinner for my son in Pittsburgh was not easy. Plenty of interesting brew pubs and the like, but good American food at a reasonable price is hard to come by. Sonoma Grille looked good on-line, and we were not disappointed. The setting is old-town urban with high ceilings and a festive decor, the wine list was very good, and every single item, from the mushroom flatbread and the avocado and crabmeat tian to the scallops and the cioppino, was mostly locally sourced, very well presented, and delicious. Service was attentive and very friendly. Greatest culinary hit in Pittsburgh, in my book."

"Great location within blocks of the convention center, cultural district, and downtown offices. We have come here for before-theatre dinners, business dinners, and lunch, and have never been disappointed. Outdoor tables are first come, first served. The service was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Our lunches were very good. Portion sizes were moderate and fine - not huge and not too small. I was proud to take our friend from Atlanta there, to show him that Pittsburgh also has good restaurants, nice al fresco dining, and professional service."

"We have usually had a good experience at Sonoma but have never been there for a special occasion. Our family went there to celebrate our daughters 21st birthday and my wifes. I put in the reservation request that we were celebrating the events. The restaurant did nothing to help celebrate after spending $160 for the four of us except say that my youngest daughter didn't look 21.
We usually go to another downtown restuarant for occasions and they mention it and desert is a toll house cookie, not much but it's something."

"Restaurant was less than half full. Service was atrocious! 15 minutes to get a glass of wine. Food took forever, even though restaurant was half full! Burger ordered medium; came out rare. Fish tacos ordered with side salad instead of fries; still came with fries; fish tacos were tasteless. Salad with chicken was tasteless!

"The whole experience was quite pleasant. We arrived almost thirty minutes early but they were able to quickly accommodate our group. The drink list was extensive and the food was tasty. The service was very fast. Great place."

"I'd walked past the Sonoma Grille before and always thought that it seemed like a nice place to go for a dinner, but I never had a chance to try it until recently. When they say they have a big wine list, they do. It's a massive page with both glasses and bottles, widely varied in price. Intimidating, but the waiters are great at recommending something to your tastes and in your budget. Then, the food. Seasonal, mostly local, and very tasty. I had duck, and it was astounding. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, with a wonderful glaze, flavorful stir fried veggies and surprisingly tasty rice. Desert was great too, very simple but elegant cheesecake. If I ever have need of good fine dining in the future, I will be back."
