"The Blue Point was always "the" place to eat in the northern OBX with no real competition. Back then, it was practically a hole in the wall with maybe 10-15 tables and outstanding food. Now they have expanded into a relatively large restaurant and, while it is still considered by many to be a "must" restaurant in that part of the universe, increased size almost always means decreased quality and Blue Point is no exception. The food is still good but no longer outstanding. Reservations may be difficult to get, but no longer impossible. And the competition for restaurants is plentiful, e.g., Elizabeth's, Roadside, Metropolis, etc. It seems as if the best reasons to eat at Blue Point now are the view and nostalgia for the good old days."

"The four of us have been dining there once a year since the Blue Point opened & we have been vacationing in the Outer Banks for over 30 years. Our server Bruce remembered us from last year and previous years. The service was exceptional, the soft shells as wonderful as the 2 who order them regularly remeber and the deserts were fabulous although we didn't need them."

"This mother's day dinner was a gift from my boss because we are working on his beach house. My daughters are at home in Virginia so he wanted to make the day special and really recommended this restaurant, especially for the sunset which our reservation made it perfect timing. I felt in every way pampered by our waiter Bruce and would thoroughly recommend this restaurant not only for the ambience but for the excellent dining experience."

"Love this place!! Absolutely charming restaurant--warm, intimate, excellent service. Nice view of the sound, and a well-paced meal--you do not feel rushed, the food is amazing. This visit, had the oyster stew and pickled shrimp as starters--wow! As always, the scallops were divine, as was the Mahi Mahi special (There was also a veal chop special that sounded wonderful). The pecan pie as always was perfect, but the strawberry-rhubarb crisp with lemon buttermilk ice cream had me considering licking the bowl clean. Easily the best restaurant in OBX."

"We got to Blue Point early and took our drinks outside where we sat at a soundside bistro table. When we went in to our table, we were pleased to see that we had a waterfront booth, and although it was dark by then, it was still one of the best seats in the house! Our servers were friendly and attentive, and were very apologetic when one of our soups was missing a key ingredient (crab). It would have been nice if they had "comped" the soup, but they did treat us to dessert since it was our anniversary. The food was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant and are looking forward to going to Blue Point again. By the way, Blue Point was recommended by several friends of ours on the Outer Banks, and we are so glad we took their advice!"

Service was excellent and we were extremly impressed that they not only recognized it was our anniversary but offered to seat us at the same table we had on our anniversary last year. This attention to customers sets the Blue Point above all others. We will be back and recommend them to anyone looking for a great dining experience on the Northern Outer Banks."

"This restaurant clearly wants to be deemed "fit for foodies," but it falls far short. The gumbo was tasteless (I've eaten lots of gumbo in my life,) as were the crab cakes. The shrimp in my first course was way over-cooked. Pairing unusual flavors can be wonderful in the hands of a master chef, but no one in our party thought the pairings were successful; in fact, they detracted from otherwise well-prepared fish. The waiter was not knowledgable about the wines and initially made a mistake in our order. On the plus side, however, if you have a window table, the view is gorgeous. There is excitement; the diners clearly are having a good time. It is a beach restaurant after all. But it is not fine dining."

"We have been to The Blue Point 3 times in the last 2 months, having just bought a home in the area. The food and service is always great. We have never had a bad course there. Last week when we ordered a $60 bottle of wine they brought the wrong vintage. When the server checked, she came back and said they were out of the vintage on the wine list but would substitute a better wine ($17 more)for the same price. Who does that? Our only problem is the prices. I know it is a resort area but it kills me to pay $11 for a salad. If you know that going in, you will have a fantastic meal. Love the bar too!"

"Exceptional in every way, consistently great food and fabulous service. I had three different meals there while on a recent stay in Duck, We had lunch and dinner Saturday and then brunch on Sunday. It's great to see a restaurant thrive even in the off season. The service is always top notch, yet subtle even with off the menu requests. My favorite thing is that the ladies at the table are always served first,something so simple makes a huge statement about the way the owners wnat their patrons treated. Blue Pointe is by far the best place to eat on the OBX and our is the best restaurant I've ever been to."

"This was #4 for 2013 for us and once again, The Blue Point was awesome. I cannot find fault with anything they do in this restaurant. When we arrive, they put you at ease. They are so laid back but at the same time polite and dutiful. Again, we don't look at the menu we just listen to the specials and choose. I actually wanted a soup, an appetizer and a main course because they all sounded great. Settled on the flounder and the soup, both of which were just fantastic. Also, if you time your arrival near or just before sunset, do it. The view over the sound at sunset is so peaceful and beautiful, if that doesn't float your boat, you don't have a boat to float in the first place."

"A lovely birthday evening. We had made reservations long in advance and had volunteered to wait as long as needed for a window seat and this took some convincing at first although we were eventually settled into a back room where a large party was having a celebration, which upped the noise level and downed the romance factor a bit. Food was good although prices remain very expensive-- most entrees are in the upper $20 range and salads, soups, etc are priced separately at about $10 each. The pork chop brined in cider was tasty but a little tough and the 3 gratin macaroni that came with it was flavorful but a bit dry and overbaked. My husband had the shortribs which were wonderful. Dessert was phenomenal as was the sunset view."

"Dinner at The Blue Point has been a tradition with our group for several years. This year we numbered 11, the largest group ever, and The Blue Point didn't bat an eye. The food is superb, the atmosphere relaxed and warm, and the view can be spectacular. It had been raining all day, but the sun came out for us as we arrived for the dinner. The service was impeccable. I consider it a testament to the quality of the restaurant that the man at the rental car agency in Norfolk told us we just had to go the The Blue Point. Our annual Blue Point dinner is a highlight of your Outer Banks experience."

"Had their trout entree with barley and spinach. Trout was excellent--the best I ever eat is at the Blue Point! Taste and presentation was fantastic. The only other time I have had a dish to rival this was at the Blue Point years ago. I had their trout with greens and grits. It must have been 2006 or 2007 and I still remember that meal. It was a one in a million!!!"

"On a scale of 1-100, Blue Point is usually a 99 or a 100. This time it was just a 95. The soup, which last time was the sweet potato and butternut squash, which was tremendous, this time was a potato leak and was not hot enough or tasty enough to be in the class of the other one. main dishes were great, and due to lent season, no chocolate or ice cream for dessert made us choose something unusual for us, but it was great also. The "10% off wine" was pretty bad, however. Even at 1/2 price it would have not been a bargain."
