In 1983, Café Luxembourg opened its doors to become the quintessential neighborhood bistro of the Upper West Side. The dining room of this charming 90 seat restaurant glows in the warm light of the Jean Perzel fixtures and antique mirrors.
Located on 70th Street just west of Broadway, Café Luxembourg entertains New Yorkers and celebrities alike. The full service bar is home to many regulars. "Went with our cousins from San Francisco, very well travelled gourmands. We all had a great time. Finding a brunch spot during Passover when we weren't going to miss all the bread, pancakes, muffins, etc.was going to be challenge. Some of us are also following Weight Watchers. There was no deprivation at our table as we enjoyed salads, omelettes, tuna and chicken paillaird, indulged in the potatoes, and enjoyed our wine and coffees."

"We had informed them that we had theater tickets when we made the reservation and again when we arrived, but they did not meet our time requirements. We had a 5:30 reservation and we had 7:30 tickets at Lincoln Center, but we were late because the service was so slow."

"Luxembourg does not seat untill 5:30, which we perfectly understood. We went to the bar as suggested by the hostess. When they started to seat people who came after us we said we were ready to sit at 5:45 PM. We were told tables had to be set. Since the dinning room was empty and already set for dinner, it meant they were setting the tables just vacated by the staff in the back of the room.I asked to have one of the tables in the front of the room. That was a big problem.
The attidude was enough for both of us to leave at that point. We were seated but the whole episode was not what we wanted or deserved. So much for dressing up, making a reservation several weeks in advance and ordering multi courses and libations."

"Some think of this a neighborhood gem, but only because they do not eat anywhere else. First, the wine list is inaccurate where a 2006 bottle of wine is replaced with a 2009 vintage. The waiter sends over the wine steward who proceeds to tell me that the 2009 was the next vintage they got after the 2006. When I tried to show him other errors on the wine list , the steward said he could not read what I was showing him as he did not have his glasses. I saw him later at the bar partying with friends. The food was mediocre at best. T The tuna burger was dry and almost inedible. For the price you could eat at Gramercy Tavern (in the tavern area), Union Square Cafe, Nice Matin, Craft Bar, Riposso 72, Fiorellos, etc. East here at your own riskt!!"

"This is a very special NYC restaurant, always consistent and well managed. The quality of food is exceptional. Service is generally good, and depending on your server, exceptional. I have had some of the absolute best waiters ever there, and then some that are fine, but un-exceptional. Other than that uncertainty, everything else is top notch!
I like to make an event of dining at Cafe Lux, and plan to visit there many more times!"

"Tables are way too close so be prepared to share your conversation. Oh, and be careful when your food is being put on the table or you may end up with french onion soup on your lap like the poor guy sitting next to me. Just not enough elbow space so the waiter had to reach over the guys shoulder and, well, oops! Can't blame the waiter."

"i was very disappointed that my "disagreement" with garlic could not be accommodated. So there were literally only 3 items on the menu i could eat. everything else had been either marinated in or stuffed with garlic. Most other comparable restaurants are more accommodating."

"For years Cafe Luxembourg has been an Upper West Side favorite because it is excellent in every way. It has the ambience of a genuine Parisian bistro with a suitably U.S.-adapted menu. What it does not have is the sometimes indifferent -- and at other times, downright hostile -- service of a Parisian bistro. The staff seems to be specially selected for servers who are friendly, funny, and helpful. On top of that, the food is delicious without being pretentious. It is the perfect place for a late breakfast/early lunch; for pre- and post-theater (Lincoln Center is a mere five-minutes' walk away); and for everything in between. One of my favorite New York venues, although I have to travel across town to experience its many pleasures."

"C. L. provides the visitor an authentic taste of N.Y.C. It says, "We/I are/am who we/I am/are. No pretense. We put before you the best we are. appetizer with frites and some tastes of others' appetizers and this was plenty of food! Our daughter ordered ONE oyster to be frugal, but the waiter brought six and said the other five were on the house. Desserts were very good though my taste of the Boston Cream Pie was a bit disappointing...too much vanilla-flavored cake, not enough cream. Like most other good restaurants,cocktails and wine by the glass are very expensive but not as much as ordering wine by the bottle. I find the overpricing of wine outrageous...it isn't exactly a good way to hook people on drinking good wine. The markups are 500%!"

"Cafe Luxembourg is still a West Side gem, and one of the few excellent restaurants between Lincoln Center and W. 72nd Street. It's been around since the early 80s but still feels pleasantly trendy without being snooty. The staff is professional, friendly, helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable about the wine list and of course the menu itself. Oysters on the half shell is one of the best reasons to go, and we were not disappointed in the Belons we ordered, although they are pricy at $24 for a half dozen. The frites are hot, crispy, and salty. Traditional duck a l'orange is very good also. I love the sophisticated but casual ambiance, even the tightly-packed-together tables."

"The staff is courteous and responsive. As th restaurant fills up, noise is noticeable and the service lags a bit as wait staff gets busy. Food was siml and good. The prices in general area at the high end for the food being offered, and the price of all sides at $10 each represented the most premium pricing."
