"We frequent Roy's often and it is always consistent. This time we went for the Father's Day brunch and although we did not get items off the brunch menu, we were happy to see they offered a modified regular menu. The miso butterfish is always a great pick as are the lobster potstickers and the chocolate molten cake. Go early for the parking can be challenging unless you valet."

"I have been to many Roy's locations, and this one needs some improvement. The food is good, but the souffle portions have gotten smaller and there was absolutely no "molten" chocolate in mine, which was a disappointment. The service is also better at other locations. Surprisingly, the Roy's in Orlando is the best so far, even better than the ones in Hawaii. Overall, good food except the souffle, and service could be better."

"This Roy's is superior to the restaurant of the same name in Kauai. I enjoyed my meal but my wife thought the food to be too salty, maybe flavored with too much monosodium glutomate or other such ingredient. Good halibut, if pricy!"

"Was a bit disappointed with this trip to Roy's. Have been there numerous times and had better experiences. Travis the bartender was the only highlight of the evening. He was nice and friendly to chat with. Food has become mediocre at best and have had better sushi. The Fish Trio was good and fresh with lots of flavor. $9.95 for a Kale salad was a bit outrageous for greens on a plate. There are many other option in the area that may be better."

"Roy's is extremely consistent every time we visit. The food is always well prepared, whether an appetizer or main entree. Service is attentive and friendly, without being pushy or aloof. We always feel welcomed and enjoy our dinners immensely. We enjoy going to Roy's as a couple, with friends or with a larger family group. Roy's is always accommodating and tends to our needs. We always highly recommend the Newport Beach location."

"Our wedding anniversary at Roy's! I'd told them in advance. Our menus bore a "Happy Anniversary" announcement. Several of the cordial staff greeted us by name, and with anniversary wishes. Roy's mango mojito is refreshing. The pork ribs are delicious & meaty. A trio sampler of fish dishes is an inspired menu choice, beautifully plated. The celebrated butterfish with bok choy is the best. Many dishes rate "excellent" - Roy's just lost 1 star with me due to a few adventurous pairings: a sushi roll incorporated wagyu beef - new for us, but not a felicitous blend. The sauce on the macadamia-crust mahi mahi lacked character, compared to the other fishes. A complimentary anniversary dessert also made us feel special. We'll be back!"

"We took our family (ages 70+ to 7) for a birthday celebration for two of the adults. The staff warmly acknowledged and congratulated the honored guests, seated us at a table that had birthday confetti, the menu had a special insert celebrating the occasion, and the desserts had "painted" Happy Birthday plates. They were so nice to the children (9 & 7). They brought ice cream for them with their names painted on the plates too. They even offered to take a family photo to take home. Our honored guests felt very special. Everyone left a raving fan!
And, as always, the drinks and food were a real treat!"

"Roy's is one of my favorite restaurants and I have dined at the Pasadena and Las Vegas site always having a wonderful meal and making it a special occasion. Kids are very welcomed and are offered a great variety of items to choose from. We came this time to celebrate our aunt's birthday and it was a first-time visit for our aunt and uncle. Service was outstanding and our server was very helpful. All of us enjoyed the calamari appetizer and our entrees and desserts. Our aunt loved her birthday dessert and the picture that was presented to her shortly before we left. She said they will definitely be back so you now have 2 new fans for your restaurant."

"Gave it another chance because first time my meal was so small I ate the butterfish in 3 bites. Well, this time I ordered the trio sampler platter and only wanted vegetables not any rice or starches. I substituted the rice for asperagus. Out came 2 small pieces of book Choy and 4 pencil size pieces of asparagus. Manager came over and apologized (again). Took some money off my bill but I was so annoyed that I will never go back there. Portions are TINY and not worth the money at all. Go to Tru Foods next door or Whoke Foods will cook you up all the fish you want at a fraction of the cost here.
I don't mind spending money on dinner but I don't like getting ripped off!"

"The Newport Beach Roy's is top notch. The food was delicious, well prepared, and innovative. I had the shrimp appetizer, trout and sorbet all from the prixe fixe menu. Roy's has a well trained staff who are knowledgeable about their menu selections, food allergies and demonstrated they can accomodate for the most picky diner."

It is very nice to be able to go to a place and know that you will receive the same, quality food and service. Roy's does not disappointment - and we've been to almost all of his restaurants in CA, NV, AZ and, of course, Hawaii!!"

"It was really nice for I was meeting a client for dinner and was not in a big rush for it had been a couple of years since I had seen Joan. We ended up only having appetizers and three glasses of wine, not a big tab for a nice four top booth that they put us in after we requested a table change. What was really nice is that our server let us enjoy the time and did not rush us at all. She appeared to be training a gal and needless to say she was setting a great example. Thank you for a wonderful experience."

"We've dined at Roy's over 100 times over the past years and it is always very good. This time around we had the calamari and the lobster potstickers. We like the old sauce called firecracker for the potstickers and always ask for it. For entrees we had the miso-crusted butterfish and the Hawaiian swordfish. The only minus was that the swordfish was a little dry. We always have the lava cake for dessert which is fantastic. Service is always great and the restaurant was entirely filled by 6:15, most of which were Mother's Day guests."

"We went to celebrate my birthday as well as my 4 year old's birthday. Our menus were customized to wish us a happy birthday. Confetti was on our table. The kids' meals were free as we are part of their mailing list. We got special birthday desserts and the kids' lived having their names spelled out in chocolate syrup. Our waiter Rich lives children and really took care of their needs. He is amazing and we will request him next time we dine. The halibut with a black bean sauce was delicious and the chocolate soufflé is the best I've ever had (and I've had many of them)!"

Hubby and I both had drinks as well. We enjoyed it so much that we went back the next night and ate at the bar. Both ordered completely different meals and enjoyed them just as much!"

"It had been several years since I last went the Roy's in Newport as we now live very close to the Anaheim location. The last few times, I had some awkward experiences there. (Brought white wine glasses for champagne / insane wait time for a large party with reservations.) This time was much different and I credit that to Donnie. He came from the Anaheim location and obviously brought the very Ohana spirit that I always find there. Service was awesome! Our food was fabulous (and the champagne I brought was poured in flutes!) I definitely look forward to going back to this location (but I won't give up my Anaheim Roy's)."

"What an awful place! No need to subject yourself to that. Service was lousy. Drinks took forever to arrive and were inexcusably poorly concocted. We asked that the A/C be turned off in our area since everyone around was freezing; that wasnt done. After 40 minutes of enduring this we chose to leave $30 on the table for the snacks we ate and the one palatable drink, and left. Not going back there in my lifetime."

"My wife and I go to Roy's in Newport Beach 4 times a year or more and always enjoy the food and service immensely. Roy's has made it easier for us to go with Fixe Prixe mondays and free corkage on some days. We are retired but still love the finer restaurants. By the way, whatever we have for an entree, we always order the chocolate souffle desert. It alone is worth a trip to Roy's. We have enjoyed Roy's in other locations as well: Pebble Beach and Palm Springs."

"The menu is ordinary at best. There is no creativity going on in the kitchen. Both my husband and I were amazed the restaurant was so full; are most people willing to settle for mediocre food? The saving grace here was our waiter, who was amazing. For appetizers; I ordered the lobster potstickers which were greasy, with limited lobster filling. My husband ordered the grilled shrimp, which was tasteless. Then we shared the kale salad with a poached egg on top. Even after 2-tries, the egg had a hard center. The kale was tough and tasteless; a disaster! The main courses were ok. The desserts a disappointment. I would not return to this restaurant. So many better places in OC!"

"Dining at Roy's is always a pleasure. We were promptly and courteously seated at our reservation time. The waitress was well versed in the wine choices and recommended a very nice wine by the glass. The menu is sophisticated with wonderful sauces. There is no better Ahi to be found. The quality and freshness of the butterfish is outstanding. We have celebrated birthdays and anniversaries at Roy's because they do a great job of making the occasion special. For example, the menu is personalized with the celebrant's name and congratulations are noted for the specific occasion. Also, the table is decorated with glitter and best of all, after delivering a complimentary dessert, the staff takes your picture!"

"It was a very noisy evening, and our reservation asked for a quiet table and we were seated mid-dining room, near the kitchen, anything but quiet. The food was good, but the dessert was not what I ordered per se (chocolate souffle is not a "moulton cake"). Yet the waitress was pleasant, engaging without being bothersome, and attentive to service."
