"The two of us went for an early Sunday night dinner following Disney Hall matinee. Restaurant was quiet, not more than 40% full upon arrival and departure. We shared potsticker appetizer, good but not outstanding. Then had the seafood trio: the black cod (butter fish) was lovely, mahi mahi and salmon both so dry that we returned them. Very accommodating, Roys set up a small, very nice plate of a little more black cod in place of the returned items. Also ordered the Hawaiian Beef Ribs: excellent. With a glass of wine each, bill was about $100."

"I have been to a number of Roy's and this was my first in downtown. I was very disappointed with this one. The food wasn't bad but everything was just ok. We started with the aloha roll (just ok) and Wedge (good). For dinner we had the white fish (just ok) and the fish trio. The cod was good, the salmon and halibut were just ok. The halibut was overcooked and chewy and I wasn't going to say anything but the waiter asked me how everything was and I told him it was overcooked so they sent me another one. That is fine and all but this should never happen at a place like this. The 2nd piece was better but still not great. Not the flaky halibut we are used to at Roys's. Go to Chaya or Katsuya for a good meal right down the street."

"Everything was great. Service was very nice and helpful. Ribs were delicious as always. Scallops were cooked perfectly and were served over pieces of tasty pork belly. My wife's steak was excellent, tender and flavorful. Can't wait to return."

"The food was excellent but the portions are very small or petite. Very pricey for the quantity. Luckily, I was sent a $25 discount card (spring promotion) which I forgot to bring with me and I mentioned it to the hostess and waiter and they honored the discount. The ventilation is not very good. We sat near the kitchen and the fumes permenated the dining area and it was noisy."

"We stopped by for a quick bite, but ended up having a glorious time. We only ordered appetizers, which gave us a huge variety of flavors. Everything was beautifully presented and oh so delicious. The waitstaff were so helpful, friendly, and accommodating. We can't wait for another trip to the downtown area for another dine out at Roy's."

"All the food we had was excellent. I had the trio of fish dishes, all of which were outstanding. My husband had the seafood sampler which was also very good. We had a child in our party and the staff did an excellent job of providing things to keep him occupied which I felt was above and beyond the call of duty. The service was a bit slow, but we enjoyed the relaxed pace."

"Never before have I had such outstanding service to compliment an excellent menu. Even though we had a reservation, we opted to dine at the bar, where the service was nothing short of exceptional. How did she know that I like bleu cheese stuffed olives? I have to say, I am shocked that I have never eaten here before. I'm adding it to my go-to dinner list!"

"We went to Roy's for my daughter's birthday. It was her first birthday celebrated in LA and she loves seafood, so it was a natural choice. Our appetizers of calamari and lobster potstickers were excellent and our entree choices of black cod, ahi tuna and macadamia encrusted Mahi Mahi were all delicious. Our chocolate soufflé was overcooked and rather than wait for another, we declined but were then surprisingly we were served the most chocolatey yummy pudding and had a considerable amount deducted from our bill total!! This was service beyond anticipated and though we would have likely returned again, we now definitely will return to Roy's!"

"Really really good seafood. Very attentive service. Highly recommend. The lobster potstickers were ok (the potsticker taste overwhelmed the filling), I might try one of the sushi rolls as an appetizer next time."

"Food was simply okay at this location. I've eaten at the Pasadena location, and would rate its food as excellent -- appetizers and entrees alike. However, the appetizers at this location were outstanding and would recommend eating only the from that selection at the downtown location."

"I have fond memories of Roy's from the time I lived in Hawaii. Unfortunately, however, this restaurant chain has gone downhill and we had a very average meal at the downtown LA location last weekend. I will not return."

"This was absolutely a disaster meal First we had the Canoe for Two of appetizers and that was good and Tasty, but then we had a salad called a "Maui Wowie Salad" that was supposed to be a" Shrimp and sweet onion salad with a lime vinagarette" I took two bites and the salty flavor stayed with me the rest of the night I pushed it aside as unpalatable and I never did see a shrimp on the plate. The waiter to his credit when we pointed out how bad it was offered to take it off the bill or provide something else. Our entrees were not much better We both ordered the Shell Fish Sampler and once again the amount of salt on the plate was unbelievable I cannot fathom why anyone would salt seafood ever both lobster and shrimp were overcooked and salty ri"

"Love this downtown LA Roys! Food was extraordinary. Miso black cod and scallops were prepared perfectly. Baby back rib appetizer was excellent. Server, Kristal, was top notch!! Enjoy this Roys above others in CA. Better menu and professional service."

"I have been to many different Roy's and this one did not meet the standards of the others. We left disappointed with the quality and selection of the food.
Although disappointing, service was very good and I will return to other Roy's I have experienced previously."

"We were seated on time and the waiter asked us if we had eaten there before, which we had. For some reason he took longer to get back to us to take the order. BUT, he was very good and the food was also very good. Mgr visited the table to ask how we liked everything."

"It was a quiet night at the restaurant so the noise level was low and the service was amazing. Roys does a nice job with small details....hot towels before and after the meal, low key check in regarding food quality and table needs etc. This is a "go to restaurant" when I want great fish and good service."

"I don't know if we caught Roy's on a bad night or what...I have had stellar experiences with every Roy's I've been to from Hawaii to Anaheim, ca...but the food here was undercooked and no I did not order sushi. My dates rice was hard, fish was sent back undercooked, edamame opener was never cleared off table through dinner, soup noodles were hard not done, and I'll stop there. They've sent us gift certificates as a result of complaints so very nice...I want to believe it was just one bad night and they have made corrections."

"The food is consistently good at Roy's, whichever location you dine at. The waiter worked with the kitchen to create our own "Surf & Surf" combination. It's great to demonstrate that flexibility. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and they made the evening special and festive."

"Our first visit to a Roy's was in Hawaii, so this location in the lobby of an office building in downtown L.A. was not as romantic. The food was good, and it can be hard to find good seafood in Los Angeles, but there are a lot better restaurants to eat in this town, especially if you are just visiting."

"Trendy restaurant across from the Nokia Theatre but very crowded at dinner time as it was a fight just to get in. We were a party of 2 and seated at a table 4 feet from the kitchen grill. It was noisy, filled with traffic and the grill lights were in our eyes the entire time. The quality of the food was spotty. The lobster potstickers were excellent but the sashimi(maguro) was of poor quality, it was dry, fiberous and discolored. Not worth $4.95 each. Order the rolls. The filet mignon on my trio plate was excellent, and highly recommended. My wife's seafood trio was disappointing so avoid. Their signature dessert is the chocolate souffle filled with runny chocolate syrup. It was Ok to try once. Dining value is below average."

"Situated at the intersection of Figuroa and 8th, we had a beautiful view of the illuminated buildings across the intersection. Great food under great dining room management. Our waitress was efficient and cheerful. We were pressed for time to attend a play. They served promptly and food is delicious as always."

"Wonderful service. Food was great. The hostess was very friendly and accomodated my party upon our early arrival. The waiter was attentive as well as the rest of the staff. I would honestly say the Topanga location has a better execution of their seafood(sushi) selection. I also had a steak that was slightly overcooked but still delicious. I would return."

"Magnificent food and value. Things not to miss: happy hour specials ($6 cocktails and hors d'oevres); Prix fixe dinner; and, of course, the chocolate soufflé! Our server, Mia, was fantastic, as was the shrimp entree. One star was lost because we asked for a cab well in advance and someone else was allowed to take it, which caused some anxiety, but all ended well. A gem!"
