Review 2 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Our celebration dinner was excellent. The dining room is lively without being boisterous. The wait staff set a nice and thankfully not overbearing tone. Nice wine list. The highlight was the apple gallette with the salted carmel ice cream and a great cup of coffee. We have dined there before and will do so again."

Review 4 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"This is the second and last time that I will be going to Solera. The first time the food was alright while the service was bad. I decided to give Solera another chance since the restaurant made the 5280 magazine top 25 list. This was a mistake. The food was bland. I had the salmon which tasted about as good as Outback. The most disappointing part about Solera is the service. Both servers both times were not just unfriendly but it almost seemed as if they were annoyed that they were waiting on us. I cannot understand why Solera would be on any top list. The only top list Solera deserves to be on is the over-priced, below-average, terrible service top list. What a disappointment."

Review 7 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"the calamari was incredible, as was the carrot ginger soup. The scallops and mac and cheese were just OK. The scallops were actually quite good, but the mac and cheese left a lot to be desired and actually kind of ruined the dish for me. It was bland and the sauce was kind of grainy."

Review 8 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"We went on of the 5280 Restaurant Week nights and I was disappointed. I felt that the food was pretty mediocre. The soup was pretty good, my flank steak was really blah as were both deserts, the bread pudding and a brownie, both with blah ice cream. Both my wife and I took only a few bites of our desserts. On the other hand, my wife felt that both her soup (the same as mine) and her salmon were "good." We have had better meals there, maybe they were too busy."

Review 11 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"We went to Solera during Denver Dining Week, because it was recently ranked as one of the top 25 restaurants in Denver by 5280 Magazine. Everything was fine, but nothing blew our socks off. And, our server left something to be desired: he was very cold, we could barely hear him and he ignored a request of the friend that I was dining with. So, all in all it was a fine experience, but not what we were hoping for."

Review 12 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I absolutely adore this restaurant. I go every year for restaurant week and attempt to sneak back in whenever I can. The food, as always, was spectacular. The wine list has changed since the last time I was in there and isn't as exciting as it once was. This is the first time I've ever had mediocre service. Don't get me wrong, the service was still good--but usually it's mind-blowing."

Review 13 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"I know it's the end of DRW & you are all 'over it', but the least you could do is TRY. Our server could not have been less interested in enhancing our experience. A member of our party was stuck in traffic, so the rest of us had to suffer. Tho WE apologized for the inconvenience, it was 10 min before getting water & over 30 min before he offered bread! He didn't know/offer to find out anything about wines I asked about, left our empty dishes sitting (but thanks to the other server who actually paid more attention to us) & generally slumped about the place. Food was generally quite good (but Duo/Olivia has spoiled me for all other desserts). I'll try again (on the great patio in warm weather) & specifically request NOT to have that server!"

Review 15 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"We were seated promptly at our table and the ambience was great. The noise was a bit loud given the amount of tables packed in to a realtively small space. Our waiter was less than desirable. He was ver slow to take our orders, seemes a bit forgetful, and took 2 and 1/2 hours to complete service for a table of 2!! While I enjoyed my compnay, this seemed a bit long. Otherwise, the food was wonderful!"

Review 16 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"As a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, I wanted to try Solera for a couple of years. I'd read good reviews of Goose Sorenson's menu. My husband, daughter and I dined there during Denver Restaurant Week and ordered off the special 52.80 menu. We were a little disappointed. While the food was good, it wasn't as imaginative and bright as we had expected, maybe because of the volume of diners during Restaurant Week - the food almost seemed institutional. To be fair, I might consider going back to order off the regular menu. But I doubt that I will because the restaurant is on the other side of town. I will save my money and calories for the imaginative, vibrant food of Venue, Lola, Root Down, Indulge and Squeaky Bean in Hi"

Review 17 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We have been going to Solera since opening... but it had been a while b/o our distance from Denver. Solera is still a terrific, low key dining spot with a "neighborhood feel". One senses that it is not as innovative as it once was, but that it recently made a local publication's "Top 25" is surely reasonable."

Review 18 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Solera is great! The wine list is extensive and well rounded. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine. They had complementary valet parking, but due to it's location there was also ample street parking. We found a spot with no problem. The food...oh, the food! We visited for the first time during Denver Restaurant Week and had the best meal! We started with the Macaroni and Cheese which was delicious, and I had the Carrot Ginger Soup that was full of sweet and savory flavors. For entrees we enjoyed the Salmon and mushroom risotto and the Grilled Flat Iron Steak with garlic whipped potatoes. So good! We're so glad to have found this gem of a restaurant! This is definitely a place we will visit again and again!"

"The food was good but nothing notable. There were problems with service. Our waitress kept disappearing for extended periods. Review 24 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Food was pretty good, but not great. Does not seem like the restaurant week menu was meant to impress. The salads were uninspired and the Caesar was a bit fishy. The Quinoa dish was good, but not memorable. The two best items on the Restaurant Week menu were the scallops / truffle mac and cheese and the bread pudding. The chocolate brownie dessert was hard and dry. I am suprised at their ranking in 5280 with the menu and service we experienced. The waitor we had was very efficient & professional but equally impersonal to the point of coming off a little snobbish. The rest of the staff, vallet, host etc...were very warm and personable. I would like to give them another try, but tonight I did not experience a top 25 restaurant."

Review 29 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The dining experience, from reservation to the free valet, were highly commendable. Friendly wait staff. They offer a 3-course meal for ~$25. Awesome value considering scallops, steak or a quinoa dish are choices. While I was not particularly fond of their bread pudding (texture too doughy and Whisky glaze too syrupy), it seemed like the kind of place where you'd find the right dessert. Next time, I'll try the creme brulee."

Review 34 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We had a group of 8 for a birthday celebration. They accommodated us well, although the table was a little crowded. The noise level would not be a problem for 2 or 4, but with 8 it made end-of-table conversations difficult. They handled the cake brought in from outside well. Service wise very good - I was not aware of any intrusions into our lively conversation and celebration."

"Went to the restaurant for valentines day. Had to wait 20 minutes for seat even though made reservation 3 weeks prior. Had asked for a secluded seat but placed in the center of a loud room. Wine list was extensive but horribly overpriced for the chosen vineyards. The food was excellent."

Review 36 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"The food and service were very good. The only down side was that the dining room was small and very crowded for Restaurant Week. It was a little difficult to carry on a conversation.
That being said, we will be back since the menu, food and service was great.

Review 37 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Went for Restaurant Week - had a great experience. The food was fantastic. The dinning room was a little crowded but I believe they had added extra tables because of Restaurant Week. This also made the dinning room a little noisy. Otherwise, we had an overall great experience. Between the members of my group, we had everything on the Restaurant Week menu except the Mixed Greens salad and the Quinoa & Fennel entree. Everyone raved about thier respective dishes."

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We had been before, but took advantage of the 5280 deal. Food was wonderful as before. I did not like sitting in the middle of the room, especially since there were two tops that were still avaialable, however I realize that you have to sit people so that all the wait staff will get diners. I want to come back when there is an opporunity to enjoy the outside space."

Review 40 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Delicious Spanish/Mediterranean food. Try the paella. The duck dish is also excellent. Wonderful olives! Very friendly, helpful, efficient service. Extensive wine list. Good value. Attractive but not outstanding decor. Appropriate for a date night. We were there for Valentine's Day and the staff handled the crowd very well. When every table was occupied the noise level was high, though. We look forward to our next visit."

Review 43 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"Wow! I'd forgotten how seriously good this restaurant is! From the moment we arrived, we felt as though we were at a great dinner party. Genuinely welcoming staff, fabulous wine list, and the most beautiful plates of food I've seen in the long time. Four of us enjoyed a wide array of appetizers and entrees, including salads, foie gras, chicken, fish, and pork. Each and every dish was memorable. Special requests were honored with grace. Chef Sorenson and his staff are at the top of their game. This was a terrific night -- thank you!"

"Yum! Yum! The calamari-- perfect blend of sweet and spicy! The anchovy on the caesar salad was lemon-limey instead of salty!! Delightful! The duck was UNREAL!!! It was more venison-like, in that it was not fatty like duck normally can be. With a perfect crispness to the edge...

Superb!

Review 48 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Went for a light dinner of sharing a few appetizers. Found new menu confusing - apps are offered at a special price but only in the bar. Kind of disappointing as we found out that after we ordered. Our selections were delicious though: rabbit risotto, lamb sliders with blue cheese (an additional $2 for a tiny amount), thai calamari(we chose the small size, plenty for 2). Our favorite was the delicious risotto but the calamari was also outstanding - a completely different preparation than we are accustomed to. The portion sizes were over generous and we were certainly full after sharing the three apps. Husband tried the red sangria but found it a bit sweet for his taste. Overall an good visit - we will back to eat in the bar."

Review 51 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Solera is one of the best in Denver for those that are budget conscious but want to experience high quality dining. With a lean priced bottle of wine, appetizer, salads, and mains two can eat like royalty for $150 (including tip). Calamari is phenomenal despite it being unexpected on the menu. Its trendy so don't overdress but its also a warm environment unlike other industrial type or snoody restaurants. The wine service is absolutely 5 star worthy. Having worked in a 5-star restaurant as a server, I was impressed with the position of the label, the 'no pop' cork, the perfect pour into the glass, and the never empty glass. I was tempted to buy another bottle because it was so enjoyable. Service was excellent until the wine was gone."

Review 55 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"All of the food was great. I always get the Scallops/mac and cheese...and it was spectacular. The calamari appetizer was really the best I've had. We ordered the medium size (you have a choice of 3 sizes for that dish) and it was probably 25 pieces or so for our table of 4. My wife had the ravioli and really liked it. Our companions had the chicken and the salmon and both of them seemed impressed, as well. We all split one piece of their famous bread pudding for desert...always sensational. I had put in a request for a quiet table and I believe they gave us the quietest table in the restaurant. The waiter, a Lousianna native, was super attentive. We eat out a lot and I'm moving this up in status to my favorite Denver restaurant."

Review 63 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"The waiter was very accomodating. We ordered the foie gras, little neck clams, butterleaf salad and split the scallops with white truffe mac n cheese. Everything was delicious, although I think they could improve the mac n cheese. Maybe add a different type of cheese such as gouda and add a little paprika. They brought us the risotto by mistake initially instead of the foie gras. They allowed us to keep the risotto and didn't charge us for it. The flavors of the risotta were good, but I wasn't expecting to see cheese in it. I expect risotta to be creamy and smooth, not cheesy. I recommend trying their sangria or the Russian River they have on draft. 4 out of 5 for food. 5's for everything else. Highly recommend."

"We had a lovely Christmas Eve family dinner! Small plates were good for the kids and the entrees really satisfied the adults. What was of particular note were the interesting combination of flavors in the duck special; the salmon and flank steak were also quite good. Review 67 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"When we arrived I waited in my car for five minutes for the valet to come. The bartender stepped out the door and yelled someone's name but no one came and he went back inside. Finally I went inside and young man came out and parked my car. This turned out to be our waiter.

The food was great, but unfortunately the service was extremely slow. We waited 30 minutes after finishing some (very good) appetizers before our entrees came out. Two of our party ordered the all you can eat mussels and had to wait another 30 minutes for a half order refill. The used glassware wasn't cleared - we had some empty cocktail glasses on the table throughout the meal.

It was very busy and they clearly did not have enough staff on duty.

Review 68 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"It took abou 10 minutes to get served. When we did get the waiter to our table. He then slopped water all over the table while foiling our water glasses. There was a real lack of service at the beginning of our meal. The menu has not changed since we were there during the summer which was disapointing. This restaurant also needs a more affordable wine list."

Review 71 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"When we arrived the host said there were all kinds of "great" specials, however the waiter apologized and said, there was only one! The waiter was very lackluster (other servers looked more engaged...). The calamari was delicious, other dishes were so so. The pork chop had a funny texture - veg with were delicious... Our coffee was lukewarm but the waiter was glad to replace with slightly warmer, but still insipid cups. All in all, we will not go back."

Review 75 for Solera Restaurant & Wine Bar

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Food was really terrific, starting with spicy Thai calamari as an appetizer, followed by to-die-for mac 'n cheese with white truffle sauce, as a bed for two sea scallops. The scallops were slightly under-done for my taste, but not enough to send back. The service was excellent, understated but knowledgeable. My only complaint is that there was a really loud group a few tables over that impacted the mood of the whole restaurant. I'm no prude, but there's no need for someone to drop the 'f' bomb loudly in a nice restaurant."
