Caffe e Vino is hidden treasure located in the upcoming neighborhood of Fort Greene just a few steps away from BAM. Executive Chef, Giuseppe Gambino creates northern Italian cuisine with pastas made on premises, fresh meats, fish and seasonal organic ingredients with a modern twist. Pastry Chef, Elez Bucaj presents interesting selections of homemade Italian dessert such as ricotta cheese cake and panacotta. Daily fresh pasta and dessert takes center stage on the basic Italian menu of Caffe e Vino.
"Had 2 appetizers, soft shell crab with arugula salad was delicious, as was polenta with mushrooms, although both were on the small side. When it was time to pay the bill, I handed our server a credit card and was told that there was some problem with their processing machine, and that I could either pay in cash or leave my credit card number with him for later use. I did not like that idea and scraped together the cash, barely. When I said that it would have been nice to have been informed of this problem earlier, he got very huffy. There was something odd about the whole interaction. I would eat here again, but be sure to bring enough cash."

"A neighborhood gem in easy walking distance to BAM. Great for pre-theater or pre-concert events- - small, relaxed, good home-made pasta and dishes. Small but adequate wine list."

"Rustic interior with cozy front space (about 10 tables). Offers wine and beer. Brunch and lunch menus at reasonable prices. Chef quite good - a surprise at how delicate his cooking touch is. Omelets and poached eggs (on proscuitto and Italian bread) excellent and cooked properly; pasta was cooked al dente with light-handed homemade sauce. Zucchini souffle appetizer was light and fluffy. Secret spot is in the back, where the sun shines into the large windows. Good place for a group lunch. Interesting choices for dinner with some different items vs. standard southern Italian fare. Would definitely return."

"We had a lovely early Sunday evening at Caffe e Vino. The food was well prepared, plated nicely, and served in the conscientious and friendly manner we have come to expect when dining there. One is made to feel very welcome and like a neighborhood friend. The food is delicious, the variety offered on the menu always has some standard dishes which are always served and some new things as well. When my husband asked about the mozzarella and tomato salad that he loves. He was told that they didn't have buffalo mozzarella, but would make it for him with regular mozzarella, which they did. He was very happy with that. It was a lovely and satisfying dinner."

"While we enjoyed the food very much their payment policies leave a lot to be desired. Not only do they request the tips be in cash but they were unable to accept more than one credit card per table. This is especially inconvenient for friends dining together- annoying enough that we may not return."

"If it hadn't been for a rather noisy group of Italians having some sort of reunion, we would have enjoyed our dinner & conversation more. I realize that this is a hit and miss kind of thing, not the restaurant's fault. We'll be back because the food is anything but standard or boring."

"It's a block away from BAM Harvey, so they get a big pre-theatre crowd. But they don't lose their cool and produce good food for a lot of people with limited time to eat it. Outside theatre hours, it must be a fine place to enjoy a relaxed meal!"

"Great option before BAM We live in Manhattan and needed a restaurant before BAM. This is a great option...very close and quite good. Service moves along. Good choices for entrees and nice salads. Often the Patron Office at BAM uses this restaurant for dinners so you know it has to be good. We enjoyed it."

"We had a pre-theater birthday dinner and had the place to ourselves at 5 pm. The service was wonderful, the host was warm and welcoming, and the food was the best Italian I've had in a really long time in NYC. (Biggest hunks of calamari I've ever encountered too! It was like they hunted down the Giant Squid.) I always walked by the place clueless as to the quality inside; the winter door blocks all the Yelp and Zagat praises in the windows! Definitely will be visiting again."

"I've frequented this place for the last 10 years even when it was located in carrol gardens. They make their own bread and tomato flan as well, so I probably eat an entire loaf when I'm there, to the point where the waiter should start telll me their out after its been replenished twice. Finally, the owner is accommodating and friendly."

"Close to BAM so it makes it a nice choice. The menu was just ok and the torta fatta in casa was still frozen in the middle. I suppose that it could have been made in house, but I have my doubts."

"I ate at Cafe e vino as a regular when I worked in the neighborhood and now willing to make a special vist to one of my favorite restaurants. The homemade pastas are the best. Try one of the evening's specials. I am generally not a dessert person, but you can't pass up any of them - all homemade and the best cheesecake ever. Suggest you order a selection for your group so you can try them all."

"Whenever I go to BAM, Caffe e vino is my place for food before or after the performance. Even though it's been "discovered" and is justifiably hoppin' now, I still feel at home here. The food and service are first-rate. Elez and Giuseppe et al. offer first-rate cuisine with homestyle warmth."

"Food was great Northern Italian, the gnocchi in particular was good. The service though was beyond awkward. We were told (by the server/owner?) we would not get Open Table points for our reservation because they shut down their OT system several hours before closing, so I thanked him politely and got up to leave the restaurant, which is when he changed his tune. We were verbally asked to leave the tip in cash, and the entire service experience was bizarre and without subtlety. If this is your policy post it somewhere visibly in the restaurant or on the bill itself so patrons aren't made to feel so unwelcome."
