"Our visit to Alan Wong's was memorable and excellent. Service was attentive, food was delicious, great menu selections. Sauces paired well with the entrees. Great wine selection although would prefer some more reasonably priced wines, especially sauvignon blanc. Seafood entrees fresh, tender, nicely prepared. Short ribs tender, excellent. Good size portions. Enjoyed dessert. Water glasses refilled promptly. Special attention given to the birthday guests along with small gift box of chocolate macadamia nuts. Highly recommend. We try to visit each time we visit Oahu (from the East Coast.)."

"i seriously love this place. we started with the opihi shooters which is a different variation of oysters shooters and they were amazing, a bit tiny but good. the spicy ahi lumpia was alright, but the entrees made up for it. i had the five-spice pork chop and it was delicious, it was savory with a hint of sweetness to it while my date had the ginger crusted onaga. we finished dinner with the pineapple shave ice which has a panna cotta and dehydrated pineapple topped with a shaved ginger, vanilla, and pineapple concoction. the lilikoi creme brulee was amazing, layered with tapioca on the bottom it was truly magnificent. service was outstanding and we were checked up on multiple times. this is a restaurant you need to visit at least once."

"Our experience at Alan Wongs was fabulous! Not only was the food impeccable, the service was stellar and most of all very kind and respectful. I dined with an out-of-town friend I had not seen for 6 years. We sat and ate from 5:30p - 9:00p. We didn't realize we were there that long. The place was obviously busy and there had been 3 sets of diners that sat next to us. However, the waiter never rushed us, never bothered us, but was always available if we wanted or needed anything else. I would definitely return again and again and again!"

"After a foodie friend's recommendation, I quickly went on line to make a reservation for our visit to Oahu on the occasion of my mother's 90th birthday. I was disappointed not to find a time before 9:15 during our entire week's stay! I thought I'd call the restaurant once we arrived in Oahu. The restaurant beat me to it. They called my cell to confirm our visit and they were able to offer a few earlier times on several other days. So nice! Overall, we could not have been more pleased A wonderful, amazing, restaurant on every level."

"We had a reservation, however, when we got there on time, the table was not ready. We had to wait 30 minutes until seated. That was the only disappointment we experienced there. All dishes we ate were just excellent! The service is very good too. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are craving for divine food."

expected the best steak since Alan Wong is so well known. Looked forward to having a

"It was my first time here and I am sorry to say that we found the food to be overly hyped and oversauced. Tried the "classics" menu and think all those dishes can be retired. The beef ribs, in particular, were gooey and fatty and the sauce thick and sweet. The cold Kona lobster was too salty. The kalua pig in the sandwich overpowered the foie gras which I could not taste.

On the plus side, the menu is creative and very enticingly worded and the cocktails and wine accompaniments were superb. Our waiter was very nice. But the host who stopped by to say hello was perfunctory and lacked any warmth. In short, after all the buildup due to the restaurant's very established reputation, the food did not deliver."

"We ordered ”A TASTING OF THE CLASSICS”. I had all dishes "ono" and was satisfied.I liked "Chilled Vine Ripened Hamakua Springs Tomato Soup" in particular.It may be hard to receive ”Ko Choo Jang Sauce” to the person who does not like what is hot. My daughter was not able to eat ”Twice Cooked Short Rib, Soy Braised and Grilled “Kalbi” Style” with much effort.The last dessert was delicious, but may be hard for the person who does not eat much. "Alan Wong's is a gem of the Honolulu dining scene. The menu remains uniquely creative for the area and successfully plays up locally sourced ingredients. Both cocktails and non-alcoholic offerings are fresh and not overly sweetened like so many competitors. Short(er) and full chef's tasting menus (with or without pairings)are some of the best on the island. Smaller portions of most menu items are available for smaller appetites. Kids are welcome and treated with respect by the wait staff. Service was uniformly outstanding - very professional and up to the task of presenting world-class food and beverage service."

"Husband and I indulged here for anniversary dinner. Best food of the trip and excellent service. The food was amazing -- we both had the Onaga (a house special) and some Alan Wong private label white wine. We enjoyed the butter appetizer (made from island dairies) and the shaved ice for dessert (which was really a yummy shaved pineapple dish). They added a lot of nice unexpected romantic touches for the occasion and had each of the staff sign a souvenir menu for us. They gave us an extra free strawberry tort dessert (equally yummy) with Happy Anniversary written on the plate and a nice box of cookies to go. We will return here if we ever visit Oahu again."

"My husband took me here for my birthday and we had the tasting menu. Overall, the service was impeccable and the food was great!
There were 5 dishes to the tasting menu and I really only didn't care for the appetizer serving (kalua pig/foie gras cracker-the kalua pig overpowered the foie gras...and seemed overly heavy...took only one bite). Otherwise, the kona lobster/mushroom/abalone was delish and the ginger crusted onaga was sublime. The braised short rib with hot sauce was good but packed it since I was already too full. The dessert platter was yummy with lots of different chocolate assortments. My non-alcoholic muddler drink with fresh mint, blueberry/watermelon/lemon was sooo good that I had 2!

"My husband and I went for our 2-year anniversary and it was our first time there and we were speechless. The staff was very professional and really nice, the food was AMAZING!!! "The restaurant is on the third floor of a non-descript office building in a modest appearing neighborhood, but large glass windows provide a very good view of a large section of Honolulu. We had a 9 p.m. reservation, but the restaurant was full when we arrived and remained packed until our 11:30 departure. The menu is much edgier than Chef Mavro where we had dined two nights earlier. For example, an item called "soup and sandwich" consisted of warm pate on a baked cheese crisp set on top of a martini glass filled with two iterations of a delicate tomato broth. This was the first of five courses of a prix fixe of Alan Wong's Classic dishes I recommend it to anyone who is unlikely to be in Honolulu again."

"My husband and I were looking for a unique blend of Hawaian fusion. The appetizers were quite yummy and nicely presented. Unfortunately I can not say the same in regards to the mains. The Mahi Mahi was served swimming in a pool of wasabi which drown the flavor of the seared fish. My husbands Onaga was a similar presentation and once again overkill on the sauce. Less would have definately been more.
The service was good and an interesting touch with the menu loaded on an I-pad."

"My wife took me here for my birthday 3/2. The food and service were outstanding. We shared an entree in order to enjoy an extra appetizer and loved the unique combination of flavors in each savory bite. We had a 9:15 seating."

"Service was okay but not as outstanding as expected. Ginger Crust Onaga dish was tasty and unique. However, the steamed shelfish bowl was very plain and there were no dungeness crab, scallop and calamari as describled on the menu. The waiter did not mention anything about missing ingredients. There were only a few shrimps, clamps and half of a small lobster for a bowl that costs over $40."

"Well were terribly dissapointed in Alan Wongs, first off we sat at the bar for a drink before dinner. The bar was very small and seemed really messy, it took along time for them to make 2 martini's and 1 passion-fruit drink, we were seated at our table before the passion-fruit drink was even made which took about 20 min. and the martini's were not good my husband and daughter didn't even drink their's but the waiter never ask if they would like another drink. The tables are really cramped together, the waiter for the next table had his but in my daughters face the whole night. The meal was not good, the service was just ok. Skip this place"

"The food was very different-sometimes it worked and then others it did not. He used very unusual ingredients and the staff was very familiar with them. We had a problem with a dish and they removed it from the bill. It is not a restaurant for every palate."

"We had dinner to celebrate our 29th anniversary and it did not disappoint. We had the classic menu and it was very good. Did not care for the lobster dish and short ribs but that was my own preference, my husband enjoyed all dishes. The wine pairings was a nice choice."

"Our initial intuition upon arrival was that we were in for a special culinary night...we were not disappointed! As visitors, this was our first dinner at Alan Wong's. My wife and I had "A Tasting of the Classics" with Wine Pairing. It was shockingly outstanding! Delicious and sophisticated. We were able to meet our neighbors at the next table and truly enjoyed the ambiance of atmosphere, conversation, supreme service, and uniquely delicious food. The timing and presentation was excellent. As dedicated foodies, we came with little preconceived expectations and left supremely satisfied. If it is in your budget, we cannot recommend this restaurant more highly."

"It is said that Alan Wong is one of the two if not the top chefs in Hawaii and I can see why. Although tucked away in an obscure office building seemingly in the middle of nowhere, this 3rd floor gem (yes, there's an elevator) is worth the trip. There are a number of 'taster' options not seen on the website menu although largely composed of items from that menu. I had the Traditional Taster dinner composed of many of Wong's greatest hits. Superb. Wine pairings were thoughtful and eclectic. Service attentive but not hovering. This place is a real must if you're seeking something special on Honolulu."
