"WE thought the prices were unreasonably high, and some of the dishes, including the fried green tomatoes and gnocchi, were extremely bland and lacking flavor. The martinis were also much too small. We understand the small plate concept, but we did not feel that the food was priced appropriately."

"This is the second year in a row I have visited The Mariposa as part of a ski trip to Deer Valley. Last year I would have rated the restaurant excellent across the board, but this year their "concept" has changed, and not for the better. Each course is now considered a "taster" where you get a small portion and guests are encouraged to order 3-5 courses per person. They have reduced the portion size dramatically while reducing their prices only marginally. At $15-$26 per course, I would have expected to be full after 3 courses; instead we had to spend $200 just to be satisfied (this included wine.) Overall the quality of the food was excellent but we spend significantly more money than last year to have less food."

"While the food was very tasty, it was not worth the $$$$$. I am one and done and will not come back. This is the perfect example of a business trying too hard to be different."

"We had a party of 10 people and each person tried 3 courses. Some of the dishes were OK. Many dishes seemed like they'd been mass produced, frozen & heated. Some were terrible, especially the fried-green tomatoes; inedible. The service was indifferent. With a bill of about $110 person, food & wine, we definitely expected better."

"We had a 7:30 p.m. reservation. They called at 7:30 to see if we were coming! We got there at 7:35 p.m. It took an hour to get our first course. And a half hour to get our second course. We were so tired of waiting for food, we got our bill and no dessert. The waitress was talking so long with people at the next table that she didn't notice we had finished our food 15 minutes earlier. My husband had to go up to her and interrupt her conversation to ask her for our bill. Besides mediocre service, the prices are outrageouly high; $25-$30 for 2.5 ounces of food. You have to order at least 3-4 of these small plates to feel satisfied. We went home and ordered a pizza after spending @$400 for dinner!!"

"Although the food was outstanding, the prices charged for such small plates was excessive. the wine pairings and tasting was also outstanding. Multiple place setting changes could have been accomplished with less disruption to the diners."

"Friendly, unpretentious service with 5-star food. From the kitchen made butter sprinkled with pink salt to the lemon-thyme gnocchi, every bite was sublime. Small dish menu allows for many tastes of creative dishes. My date and I shared every dish, doubling our experience. Although the bison tenderloin was delicious, neither of us cared for the foie gras on top. If it had been appropriate, I would have licked the plate clean on the scallop ceviche and the lemon-thyme gnocchi. The seared tuna, when combined in one bite with the salsa and greens was an explosion of flavors. I would definitely go back."

"Great selection, would agree with some reviewers, some of the tasting portions were tiny (seared ahi), but the mushroom purse, the bison and quail were all wonderful dishes with great sauces. The cheese plate was very creative and tasty."

"Delicious menu and great service. It took us a minute to understand the menu format - essentially a build-your-own tasting menu, rather than a small-plates for sharing menu - but everything we selected was wonderful, and the suggested wine pairings with each dish were a nice touch. (It was also nice that those pairings were available in smaller 3 oz "tasting" sizes, rather than full 5 oz glasses.) The restaurant is set in a beautiful, intimate room."

"We had a wonderful meal at The Mariposa. Everything was prepared perfectly and the service was superb. My dessert was one of the best I've ever had. It was the passion fruit gateaux de crepe."

"Mariposa is a dining experience. It's a bit like dining in the Land of the Lilliputians-little plates with 3.5 oz of meat or fish or vegetable. Everything is delicious and beautifully presented and, at the waiter's suggestion, four to five "plates" plus dessert equal a dinner. For example, one thin triangular slice of seared ahi tuna was balanced on both sides with a triangle of creamy sauce outlined in creamy wasabi. The cucumbers called out on the menu were three julienne bits. It was an artistic design of tasty morsels for $$$. For dessert we chose the ice cream/sorbet combo: a true scoop of chocolate sorbet, and two scoops of ice cream, one of port wine and one of green tea. Yum! Your palate trumps your wallet."

"Mariposa is located mid-mountain at Deer Valley Ski Resort. It is small & quiet. The service is very friendly and knowledgable. The food was outstanding. The small plates they offer make it nice because you can try so many delicious creations! Loved it. We will definitely go back."

"I have been to Mariposa every time I return to Park City to ski. In the past it has been a highlight. Unfortunately myself and my dining companions were very disapponted this time. The change to small plates only served to inflate any already pricey dining experience. The service was still superior, but the food much more ordinary. We all agreed that Mariposa will not be on our list the next time we return."

"Unique tasting menu format from an a la carte menu. Choose what you like and still be able to experience multiple tasty courses. Delicious, complex combinations and flavors, and innovative food choices with perfect wine pairings. The staff was very helpful in accommodating our advance request for a special occasion. The bison tenderloin with foie gras and the goat cheese cheesecake were especially memorable. Overall this is one of the best dinners we've ever had."

"Tricky to find if not familiar with the resort dress code was not enforced, we felt overdressed compared to the people in flannel shirts and sneakers The tasting menu was interesting, allowing us to try many different foods. The food was good We do not drink, maybe that would have worked better for types of food served Service was a 10 out of 10"

"Really great food, but the chef has recently drastically reduced portion sizes. Meat (e.g. Bison steak) has been reduced to about 2.5oz with about 3 tablespoons of side veg. Appetizers are about 4 mouthfuls. Prices have reduced too, but overall value for money is much less, and this is not a cheap meal. Don't expect to have leftovers, the portions are just not generous enough any more."

"HIGHLY OVERRATED!!! Restaurant is older inside and not updated. Arrived to a baby crying. Service, being generous was average at best. Staff did not seem to know how to properly bus a table and food was slow to arrive. Food was not what you would expect, especial given the price. The gnocchi was awful, and the quail seemed frozen. Bison was good. You don't need (and probably won't want) more than three dishes), although they are very small. This restaurant appears to be relying on its past achievements. I would strongly encourage anyone to choose a different restaurant in town."

"The food is innovative and tasty, but portions are quite small as the menu is intended to be a tasting menu. Each on the menu has a recommended wine pairing. We were advised by our waiter that 4-5 plates are the equivalent of a traditional entree. This estimate is reasonably accurate--at least 3 plates will likely be needed to feel satiated.
The primary reason for our middling rating is the poor service. We were sitting for about 10 minutes after ordering, waiting for our drinks and bread (which was cold). The quinoa mushroom dish was lukewarm, as was the squash soup (special of the day). Both were brought out service staff other than our server, leading us to suspect that it had been sitting in the kitchen unattended to by our server. B"

"Very disappointing. Have eaten here in years past and it has always been excellent...sadly that is no longer the case. Even if you get past the fact that they now offer small tasting portions rather than entrees (for a premium price, btw), the food itself was bland and uninspired. Perhaps they are catering to an older crowd that cannot tolerate seasonings. All I know is that I won't be back. There are too many good restaurants in the area to waste (quite a lot of) money on mediocre food. Service, however, was top notch as always."

"I wish I had known they had switched to a tasting menu. I would have cancelled. The food was good but way over priced. A tasting menu should not carry a full entree price."

"Excellent small plates yet large plate menu! What a rare find! Instead of 8oz filet, it was 4 oz which left you lots of other sampling options. First class excellent restaurant! Service friendly and sociable! Quiet upstairs. Downstairs more lively!"

"The menu was Changed to become a "tasting menu", meaning the portions are a "spoonful" yet the are for a full portion. Someone forgot to change the veal medallions to medallion (one piece the size of a silver dollar). Okay so you don't get any, but it should have been extraordinary in flavor.....NO. This was a real disappointment. Go to the seafood buffet In Deervalley instead."

"The change of the menu to "tasting plates" is a negative. Food was good but the prices for a tasting plate were very high. For example. a 2 ounce "tasting plate" for the tenderloin filet was $26. If I went to a steak restaurant and ordered an 8 oz filet (which is a standard medium size filet, the cost is $35-45 on average. Adding up this restaurants cost, I would pay over $100 for the filet. Ridiculous."
