"Reservation for Mother's Day 2013. Menu looked good, buffet style dining. Website said patio dining available if weather permits. La Pastaia called to confirm reservation and I requested for patio sitting. On the day, was told patio sitting not available. Turned out that the buffet was setup in the patio and we were seated in the restaurant. Had to walk out of restaurant, thru the hotel lobby to get to the buffet line. Inconvenient setup and felt ackward walking around the hotel lobby with plates of food. The food was not bad with good selections for young and old but for the flies all around them. What a dissapointment for such a wonderful ocassion. Notice to all, stay away for important occasion when its buffet style dining."

"We went for brunch and found the set up to be very inconvenient. You had to walk out of the restaurant through the hotel lobby and into another dining area to get to the buffet. The food was good, I have had better. I do have to say the service was excellent by the wait staff. This would be a good restaurant to sit and order and be waited on."

"Over the past year+, I've eaten at La Pastaia at least 5 times. I always had an excellent tasting meal and it was at the top of my list for finer dining in San Jose. Unfortunately, something has changed in the quality of food since my last visit about 4 months ago. Everything was way too salty. I mean like, "I need to send this back" salty. (Note: this is not my aging taste buds). What is it with the over-use of salt in the kitchens of what are supposed to be our best restaurants. I blame the chefs, and the restaurant managers for not policing this. Now, I also believe there is some poor training in the culinary industry, which seems to be cranking out "Food Channel" chefs."

"This was my first visit here. The food was excellent, service and friendlyness of e staff was great. My only complaint was that, as a couple, we were told we could not be seated at a booth because they needed them for larger parties. My wife wanted to sit side by side because it was a special celebration. I asked the manager and he said he could seat us at a private booth across from the kitchen, which was very cozy actuall better than the regular booths. When we were finished, we exited out the restaurant and noticed a couple (2 people) sitting at a large booth, the same booth we were told we couldn't sit at because it was reserved for larger parties."

"We had dinner at La Pastaia right before going to see Anthony Bourdain. We definitely were looking forward to fabulous food. What we got was inconsistent, very average food. The salads were not seasoned and under-dressed. The risotto was rice, and did not have the "risotto" consistency. The basil cheesecake came out with burned caramel sauce. What self-respecting chef allows that to go out of the kitchen? Sadly it was very mediocre. We gave specific, constructive feedback to our waiter. I can only hope the general manager and cook are made aware of the issues."

"I have been dining at this restaurant for 20+ years and have always enjoyed it. This particular night the service was just off - our waiter was very friendly and personable, but when the house filled up he was not available. There was a problem with 2 of the 7 entrees and it took too long to get the correct dishes to the table. Management was very courteous, not charging us for the 2 late entrees. It is a great location - proximate to the HP Pavilion, and I will go back and give them a chance to redeem their reputation."

"We dined here before our Broadway San Jose production, and found it just delightful, and within a few blocks of the theater. Loved the Osso Buco, and the portions were huge."

"Inside the DeAnza Hotel this is a lovely appealing Italian Restaurant. The lights are low but not so low that you cannot see what you are eating. We had a booth and that helped keep the noise level to a minimum. There are very few places to go downtown after a movie or for a meal that is good for the middle to older generation. This is not a bar scene. There is a lounge in the hotel with couches music and a portion of the restaurant menu. This lounge is also a very appealing place to enjoy an evening"

"Went to La Pastaia for Valentines Day this year. It was okay, but was not impressed. The menu options were okay, but for the prices they were charging I was expecting much more. They sat us in a secluded room which was nice, and didn't have to request it. The food was really disappointing though. We will not be returning to try again."

"La Pastaia is always an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. We were there for a business lunch. Note - portions are large. The salads and pizza are large enough for 2. The quality of the food is very good and consistent. The butternut squash ravioli is wonderful. Great service too."

"Had a client dinner for 8 = overall was a great meal. Nice menu, great variety, wine selections were numerous and over a wide price range. Table service was good although the waiter often interrupted discussions going on at the table as if he was trying to turn the table over (was a Wednesday and not busy so ??). Good atmosphere, a bit noisy on occasion. Worth going again."

"Food was OK, service was OK, but one would expect much more from its location in the somewhat fancy Hotel De Anza. We visited on a night before attending a concert at HP Pavilion. Originally walked in without reservations to be told "We're not taking walk-ins." Well, thanks to my trusty OpenTable app on my phone, I was able to confirm reservations for a table 20 minutes after our initial attempt. When we met the hostess at our reservation time, there was no acknowledgment that she even recognized us (though we had just been there 20 minutes earlier). An overall lack of personality and enthusiasm is definitely not something I would want in a hostess if I owned a restaurant."

"The food was great. The meatballs are big and yummy. The brussel sprouts are great. However, when we wanted to order a second glass of wine, our waiter passed us by several times."

"The roasted vegetable pasta was delicious according to my guest. The lamb pasta I ate was wonderful. Our table service was very good, too. The only issue was with the host desk. Nobody showed up even with a crowd forming. We had to get a waiter to come and seat us.
Overall, a great meal and I will return for business lunches again. I may even make it down there to try a dinner."

"We went Valentine's Day . There was a prix fixe' menu. Very good and very reasonably priced for V Day. Food was great. Bistecca just like in Italy! Definitely better than larger chain Italian restaurants. There was nothing at HP Paviliion that night, but for pre-game or pre-concert dinner, this is the place. They know when events start and make sure you are done in time. Closest real restaurant to HP. $10 valet parking available too."

"This was a good find (thanks to OpenTable!). Its a very nice restaurant with a good ambiance, not too classy but good for special occasions or for corporate groups, even for an occasional nice lunch / dinner. The food was good (not very large portions), drink options were good, service was good."
