"Went for Mother's Day Brunch. For $80 a person, the buffet left much to be desired. It felt like a cash grab because it was Mother's Day. They gave coupons to mothers for the spa at the Pacific Rim to get $25 off any service over $100. We didn't bother taking them with us, but they phoned us to ask if we wanted them to hold on to them for us. Like I said, it felt like it was a cash grab. Very tacky. I was so turned off that I don't think I'll go back to this restaurant that I frequent."

"We had mothers day brunch ORU and it was a great experience for the entire family. With a nice view of the buffet from where we sat we could see that ORU spared no expense for the mothers. There was a full selection of expensive seafood options, cheese and deli meat options as well as the made to order brunch staples. The desert selection was outstanding made by the inhouse pastry chef. All in all with the great service and relaxed environment of the staff we had a wonderful mothers day brunch."

"I had the pleasure of dining at ORU this past Friday (May 3/13). It was a friend's birthday celebration and another friend accompanied us. The room is airy, bright and amazingly quiet given its openness. I was so impressed with the décor! The servers were attentive and friendly and they didn't miss a beat! We finished the evening in the lobby bar (Avital and Fung? had arranged a reserved table) which was a great treat, a piece of paradise with a very cool vibe! Samantha Flatman stopped by our table to welcome us and to ensure that we were taken care of! The three of us were so pleasantly surprised with the ride home in the Westend of Vancouver in one of the Fairmont BMW's. An amazing evening! Sincerely, Dr. Daryl R. Croxall"

"We had a nice dinner, but disappointed that at 6pm on a Sunday in May with a full raw bar did not have any oysters (the reason we chose the place). The food otherwise was very good, but the wine list was silly overpriced, with bottles at least 2x the cost we had seen at a fine restaurant in another part of downtown Vancouver the night before. We would go back, but probably just for food and not bother with wine - and would make sure they actually had oysters first. We also liked the airy, quiet ambience, but most tables (including our table) lacked a decent view - surprising since the Fairmont is right on the harbor. Wait staff was absolutely excellent."

"If you haven't dined at Oru yet, you're missing a great restaurant. Outstanding service, a unique wine list presented on an iPad, and a significantly different menu, make this a very special place to dine. The lobster salad (with couscous, hearts of palm, watercress and dehydrated pineapple) was a unique blend of flavour and one I will remember for a long time. While very pricy ($18 per glass of Okanagan wine)' it was a great place for a special occasion."

"Upon checking in i told the hostess my name and she asked me if i knew where my name origin from. i grinned and said yes. She kept on going and said my name is from the Germany. We stood there for 2 minutes waiting for her to bring us to our table. When we were seated she did not tell us about the brunch buffet . She came back and told us she was also our server. She mixed up our drink orders. My dad came to join us and she asked if he was my father in a nosy way. I saw no banana so i asked if she could ask if the kitchen has banana. She came back out with the whole bunch of banana in her hand, and tore one out for me without a plate or anything."

"My husband and I had the tasting menu with the wine flight, the food and ambiance were outstanding. The hotel is very popular and seems to have a vibrant bar scene, it was very busy in the bar/lounge, but not as busy in the restaurant, so noise was not an issue there as it was in the bar.Lastly I liked the asian/western fusion cuisine offered for a number of selections."

"This is my second time here and it's another awesome one. We shared the qualicum beach scallops for appetizer and it was very good and fresh Personaly I don't like cauliflower but never knew that cauliflower puree would be that good with the scallops. I ordered the poached coconut lobster for the entree and it was another delicious one. All of the seafood that we've tried were very fresh and well cooked. The waiter said that it was the chef pride to use local and fresh ingredients. My bf had the angus reserve bone-in rib eye and he said it was almost as good as Hy's. Lastly we had the mangaro lait bombe for dessert. It's perfect; not too sweet and it's flourless so it's very. I'll for sure have a third visit"

"We attended with another couple to celebrate our anniversary. The food, service and ambience was outstanding on all counts. From the very attentive waiter to the visits from Executive Chef Darren Brown (who thoughtfully explained some of the dishes on the menu and some of their philosophy as a restaurant) we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We brought our own special wine (dated to match our anniversary) to celebrate and they willingly served it in their best (most unique) decanter. We were surprised at the end with a compilation plate sampler of their deserts -- fantastic. We highly recommend this restaurant for anyone with a taste for the best."

"The ambiance is very modern and clean. I enjoy eating here with my partner because of their lifestyle menu that provides a good number of vegetarian and vegan friendly choices. Our last visit she had the vegan tasting menu and enjoyed the risotto for the different textures.
I had the sushi/sashimi platter which tasted very fresh and light. The house-cured wild salmon was similar to smoked salmon in flavor but more tender in bite. The ginger that was used was more mature as it had a spicier flavor and fibrous texture.
What amazed me the most was that the note I left through OpenTable regarding my partner's dietary limits was acknowledged by our server and hostess without us having to mentioned it again when we arrived. I appreciated th"

"My fiancé and I dined at Oru for a late Valentine's dinner on Feb. 15th, 2013. We both chose the Aphrodisiac Tasting Menu with the recommended wine pairings. We have dined at many high end restaurants, but this was our first 5 course meal and it was the best meal we have ever had! From the waygu beef tartar to the melt in your mouth ganache bar at dessert, there were many high notes throughout the meal. Some personal favourites were the lovely acidity in the duck salad and the caviar on top of the sturgeon. My fiancé said the angus reserve beef tenderloin with the cocoa nib jus was the best thing he's ever ate. Our favourite glass of wine was the J Cuvée Brut Sparkling from Sonoma that they served with our first course. We will be back! :)"

"It has been awhile since we were at ORU last, but the excellent service brought us back on Friday and the food seems to have gotten even better. Our server Martin was very attentive and genuine - he remembered us even though we had not dined there in months! We were also very impressed when Chef Stuart managed to make it to our table to say hi as well. The ambiance was perfect for a romantic night out on a Friday, energetic but not overbearing. We were taken care of from the moment we arrived and until we left. And the new dessert menu really nails it - we had the chocolate tasting and couldn't pick a favourite!"

"The service wasn't up to par the night that I went - I decided to try Oru for their dine out 2013 menu with my parents. When we first walked in, we had to wait for a bit for the hostess to get to us - no coat check by the way. But we got a table by the window, so that was better. I decided to try the duck and rabbit terrine; it was a disappointment to me. To me, it tasted like store-bought ham; nothing special. My parents tried the roasted sunchoke mocha soup and that was beautifully done. For the entree, I had the beef tenderloin and that was one of the best steak I had ever tasted in Vancouver. It was very tender and soft, and there was no blood squeezing out of the meat (since I ordered medium rare). It was at the right temperature."

"First time at Oru and it was great. The food was good. The hosts were really nice. The servers were good and they'd always come to our table to reassure us that the food was coming. I would recommend getting a table facing the kitchen because it was really nice to see their busy kitchen. I would definitely go back to Oru again to try their other dishes."

"Wine and cocktails are way too expensive. Overall, Food could use a little more oopmh in flavour, a little bland, Why are all restaurants serving miniscule amounts of vegetables in the mains???????????? There were not very many sides of veggies that one could add on. Great service."

"Great food, creative and innovative flavours, and beautiful decor. Found the cocktails / wines a bit pricy...to be expected for that part of town though. Service could have been a little more attentive as they did not ask if I wanted a glass of wine with my main entree after I had finished my cocktail with the first course."

"Past reviews of ORU were not impressive. However, I heard the old chef had left, so I decided to try this restaurant. The Dine out menu really stood out. I thought the sun choke velouté was absolutely delicious, so was the angus beef, and lemon tart. Our table all ended up ordering the same entree and dessert, and everyone thought the food was excellent. The staff is really friendly and smiling all the time. I would definitely come back."

"We had dinner on the Dine Out menu. We were very disappointed because the main course of lobster was rubbery and tasteless. However, the desserts were excellent, especially the lemon tart. Your pastry chef deserves high praise.
The service staff were exceptional in trying to deal with the lobster problem and are to be commended. Because of them, we will return to ORU despite this setback. We generally enjoy your food."

"My salad and dessert (lemon tart) were great! The lobster was okay but I'm not super excited about lobster in the first place. VERY expensive. We did the dine out Vancouver $38 deal so it was a steal for us. Cocktails run at $20 each but it was tasty at least."
