"Reserved well in advance. When we arrived, staff tried to seat us at a bar table. The table, without exaggeration, was the size of a large dinner plate. How we were supposed to dine is a mystery to me. The table obviously was for pre-dinner cocktails. Of course we insisted on changing to a table in the dining area. The rest of the evening was OK, but we don't like starting off a dining experience being treated like second-class citizens, or rubes that don't know the difference between the bar and the dining area. We won't be back."

"We enjoyed a perfect meal. With our reservation we were seated as we arrived. . Upon arrival we saw we were to be seated in a room with several large parties and they were able to move us to a somewhat quieter space. The food was presented elegantly and each course was fabulous. The chocolate mousse dessert was the final touch to a great evening."

"Enjoyed a good dinner at Herbsaint. Started with small plates of mushroom with risotto, soft shell shrimp with a fantastic sauce-highly recommend and short rib. Entrees were pork belly with pok choy (not a misspelling). It was a different taste so ask before you order if you are not sure about it, chicken with a crawfish sauce and creamy mashed potatoes- again highly recommend was hesitant to order but waiter said it was very good- rib eye with french fries and dipping sauce. For dessert we shared sorbert of the day strawberry lemonade very good. Service was very attentive. Tried the specialty drinks all were good but had to have the waiter explain all of them because we couldn't figure out what was in them by their name."

"Dined at Herbsaint last May while at a conference. It was perfect from the food to the service. This time was so-so. The food was good , but not awesome. The wait staff was not friendly and the food was only mediocre. Was really disappointed as I did love this place. Will eat there again but probably not next time we visit NOLA. Too many neat places to eat."

"The flavors were distinct and pronounced with each dish being perfectly prepared and remarkable. We later learned that a mushroom and polenta casserole was made so amazingly delicious by mixing in shrimp butter with the polenta, oh my. Lamb's neck has been ordered every time we dined there, with the crisp exterior and melt-in-your-mouth interior, unbeatable, as was the vinegared tomato topped pasta accompanying it. Kale and smoked drum salad was a triumph, and deserts combined creamy ice cream with imaginative pastry. Service was impeccable. We are foodie types who visit 10 or more restaurants each trip to New Orleans, Herbsaint rates at the top with few comparables, which is really saying something about this delicious town."

"We were a group of 4 for dinner on a Monday night. We had fantastic service - no pompous servers as previously mentioned in some reviews. Our food was awesome - someone in our party had the special fish of the day, which was flounder, I believe but I could be wrong, & they said it was very good. I had the muscovy duck leg which was one of the best duck preparations I had ever had. My husband had the ribeye & it was done prefect. We also had the baked asiago with oregano and the pan roasted mushrooms with polenta."

"The combination of food, service and ambience really can't be beat. Herbsaint pulls off the hat trick of being intimate, elegant, chic and rustic. Yet, it's not at all stuffy. "Noise level was fairly high, but likely due to the event that was ending, and all the revelers were piling into the restaurant at the same time. However, we were seated at a two top, very close to a group of three, who seemed to enjoy shouting into eachothers' faces. But again, no fault of the restaurant, but if you are have a tough time hearing, I would ask for a quiet section in advance. Server seemed to be struggling a bit, perhaps new, but that didn't affect anything, and the rest of the team was very efficient with checking in on us when she wasn't around. May take me a little longer to head back here, but I definitely will. Great place to watch the streetcars pass."

"I can get past bad service when the food is stellar, but I found the food at Herbsaint to be only adequate and somewhat boring and perfunctory. It certainly wasn't good enough to get past the seemingly interminable wait for food and the complete lack of explanation or apology for what was taking so long. For such a stuffy place (with prices to match), I expect much better service.
We ordered the spaghetti, ceviche, shrimp polenta, and gumbo to start. I thought only the gumbo was memorable. I ordered the duck confit. This is the first time I've ever had duck confit that was dry. 2 of my friends ordered the lamb neck, which they seemed to enjoy. We were too annoyed by then to get dessert. Definitely better ways to spend $70 in New Orleans"

"I've been going to New Orleans for years and tried many great restaurants. Herbsaint is in the top along with Commanders and Cochon. The wine was superb. The service was excellent. The food was OMG! We had the tuna, spaghetti and the short rib. All perfection! For dessert we had the banana tart and the pudding cake...delish! I would go back in a heartbeat!"

"Overall the food was very good, some of the dishes even excellent - particularly the gnocchi appetizer and the unbelievable chocolate pudding cake for dessert. Unfortunately we were seated in the back next to a very loud and obnoxious bachelor party. They were distracting and raised the noise level to a very disruptive level. I sympathized with the servers - who clearly were trying to keep them under control - but unfortunately this resulted in most of their attention going towards the bachelor party rather than our table. For the price point we were dining at, I expected better service and a MUCH better atmosphere. It was a shame because the food was truly enjoyable."

"I've eaten here almost every time I've been in New Orleans over the last several years. This time I took three friends with me. They had not been here before, but were still raving about the food at dinner the next evening. The service at one point was a little slow, but the wait for the next course was worth it."

"I can't say enough about the great service at Herbsaint. Our server not only was friendly but was knowledgable about the restaurant, the menu and the city in general. He made all the difference between a mediocre meal and a good one. Food sorry to say was not exceptional. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. The gumbo was good, but the special arugula salad was super plain and underdressed. The gnocchi was very good but again the sausage sandwich was plain and looked very undercooked. The onion straw appetizer brought by our server was DELISH!!! We should have ordered that in the first place. We will definitely try this place again and make sure to take server recommendations."
