We welcome you to visit and enjoy our restaurant in downtown historic Frederick located in the Hendrickson Building. We have selected the finest Spanish cuisine complemented with an exclusive wine list. In the heart of historic Frederick, Maryland, Isabella"s has become a favorite destination for local residents and worldwide travelers alike in search of a truly Mediterranean dining experience.
"This was my first time at Isabella's even though I had heard great things about the restaurant for years. It was everything I expected and more. Our server was very knowledgeable and went over the specials in great detail. The service was great and the food was off the charts. I enjoyed the tapas style of small plates. We had the almond encrusted goat cheese balls, calamari and a mushroom flatbread. The calamari was the best that I've ever had so we ordered a second one. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates good food."

"Isabella's is the perfect location for a night out, romantic dinner or just to try new foods. We like experimenting with foods we wouldn't typically order for an entire meal and the prices are moderate enough to take a risk on a dish or two. The crabcakes were out of this world and the asparagus is always a hit, first thing we order every time!"

"We had wonderful food, everything was delicious and attractive. The food comes out very fast, so if you want to slow it down, you have to simply stop ordering and wait till you're ready. (it's tapas, so that's easy) The ONLY thing we didn't like was the lighting. We had to use the flashlights on our phones to see the menu. We wanted for nothing. Water was constantly being filled, new silver, fresh tapas plates. We had a great experience!"

"Not our first time at Isabella's - great for date nights, but we brought our mother's here for Mother's Day to show them how great the restaurants in Frederick can be - they loved it and it made for a great day!"

"I met a friend there for dinner. It's certainly not a 4 star restaurant and it's not a place to go for a quiet romantic dinner. But I wasn't looking for that and was very pleased. I'm from out of town and I like to go to unique local places instead of chains. This fit the bill. They have tapas and paella as well as other entrees. The food was very good and reasonably priced. It's in a great small town setting. I'd definitely recommend it for a casual dinner with good food at a good price."

"Have always loved this place. Some of their new dishes can be hit or miss, but the standards (all 5000 of them it seems) are always yummy! Plenty of gluten-free options, too, which are clearly marked."

"The food was excellent. Portion sizes were smaller then I had hoped but ever tapas we ordered had an excellent presentation and was def made w care and pride. The service was slow, and once we were seated we waited for literally 15 min and had not yet been visited by a waiter or waitress, and needed to hail a food runner to ask for a member of the wait staff to greet us. Also, there was no air conditioning running in the restaurant at 5pm (for a 6pm reservation) and the heat inside was so unbearably hot that we left for pre-dinner drinks at a wine bar across the street amd returned for our dinner an hour later. The weather outside was beautifully sunny and warm and it was hotter inside then outside."

"This is the second time we've been to Isabella's. The first time we had a great experience - excellent food and very good service. Unfortunately, the second visit was not quite as successful. I'd like to think the slow bar service and slow food service was due to a large private party happening Saturday evening. However, even the food was not as good as our first visit. Among other things we had the mussel and shrimp paella. Taste wise it was fine but the presentation was not so great. The shrimp were the long skinny kind and they split the shrimp lengthwise which rendered it nearly impossible to extract the shrimp meat. Had to use fingers to try and get the meat out of the shells and even that wasn't particularly helpful."

"My only complaint was the temperature inside of the restaurant. It was 82 degrees outside and it felt even warmer inside the restaurant. It made for a very uncomfortable meal when I was sweating the entire time. For this reason I would not return this summer."

"The food and selection was quite good at this lively tapas restaurant. We were there for our anniversary and had a very nice time. One issue is that our tapas really came out all at once, hardly staggered, which made us feel a bit rushed in our meal. The food was very yummy, and they accommodated our dietary restrictions, but some of the items obviously weren't cooked in those few minutes since we ordered. They were all warm but our filet mignon tapa, for example, couldn't have been cooked in the very few minutes between us ordering and receiving the food. We don't live locally but would definitely go back, overall a really nice restaurant."

"The food was excellent, there was a lot of variety, and the atmosphere was fun. We left before it became a club scene, which is preferable for us. Didn't like everything we ordered, but that's on us and our taste buds not the restaurant. The one slight annoyance was waiting 15min for our table despite having reservations, but they seated us as quickly as possible during a busy time. We'd visit again."

"Always enjoy the meals at Isabella's. I think the food runners provide excellent service (they are better than the wait staff, in fact). This is definitely a repeat restaurant for us.

"Very expensive for what it is. Fine dining prices without the service, ambience or portions. We spent $90 for dinner for two (no alcohol) for poor service in an atmosphere so loud we could barely talk. Food not cooked as ordered and we left hungry. I would never go back"

"Tapas served with panache, and very delicious. Three of us split a bunch of "small plates" . They were all tasty, with several standouts (the stuffed dates wrapped in bacon... I could've eaten a bowl of them!) Good place for a relaxed Sunday lunch with friends. Service was prompt, attentive without being overbearing. I'd eat there again no problem."

"This was my first dining experience at Isabella's--my husband and I had been meaning to try it for awhile but the sunny and warm weekend was a perfect opportunity. I was not disappointed! The ambiance was nice--muted lighting, Spanish decor but not overdone, and intimate seating. My husband is not a "foodie"--he likes the basics and Isabella's had a burger and a turkey club for him (he had the turkey club with no goat cheese or mayo) so he was satisfied. I had 2 Belinis (they were very good) and 4 tapas--the brie encrusted with almomds was excellent. I had the spanish meatballs with red peppers, chicken on skewers and another chicken dish with tomato sauce. All were very tasty. I will be back!! Great dining experience!!"

"I didn't like the fact that at around 10 o'clock on a Friday night the restaurant became a club! I was going out with my friends to have dinner and talk. We ended up having to leave to another restaurant nearby to be able to hear each other!"

"We went to Isabella's during Frederick Restaurant Week (FRW). The restaurant was not crowded, which is atypical for FRW; however, all of the restaurants in the area seemed to have low traffic. The service was great. The waiter was ready with suggestions and kept our water glasses filled without being obtrusive. The food was only good. It didn't knock me off my feet."

"We went to Isabella's for Frederick's Restaurant week. We ordered the 3 course lunch off the special restaurant week menu. Our server, Ellen, was attentive and friendly. The asparagus fries with tomato aoli were fantastic. The filet mignon was delicious, with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Our desserts, flan and chocolate pots de creme were amazing. It was an awesome restaurant week experience! Everyone should try to dine locally at least once during this restaurant celebration."

"The food was excellent. Everything that we tried was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I read other reviews saying to "try the brussel sprouts". I typically like brussel sprouts but my wife detests them. She ended up eating half of the plate. The Paella Valencia was spot on; a mix of flavorful seafood, mildly spicy sausage, and plump rice. Too often, Paella is over-spiced, but Isabella's has created a wonderful balance of flavors.
Our server was very attentive and made certain that we always had food on the table. He forgot to put in my order for the brussel sprouts but he owned up to it and made sure they came out as soon as they were ready.
My wife and I will definitely be going back. It was a great evening."

"This was my 2nd time at Isabella's & it was great! It seemed louder in the bar area than I remember from my first visit. We had tickets to a 8pm show, so we made sure to let our waitress know & she was on top of it. Our food was delicious - we shared 4 plates & 1 salad and a 1/2 pitcher of Sangria. I definitely recommend this place & I hope to go back."

"Love, love, love the tapas. There were three of us and we ordered 10 tapas that we shared. We loved everything! They have a standard menu that has a lot of our favorites, like their deep fried asparagus with sauce. They also have seasonal specials and specials of the day that always contain additional tapas, as well as some entrees and desserts. We ordered off of both menus. Our waiter was fantastic and the small plates kept coming. Loved each one. For a great time and trying new food combinations this is the place to go."
