1808 American Bistro serves classic American fare with the occasional Southern and Cajun twists. Steaks grilled to order. Shrimp and Grits with a bit of a bite. A delectable array of house made sauces, vinaigrettes, remoulades, tapenades, aioli and demi-glaces. Not to mention the pastas, burgers, sandwiches, salads, appetizers and desserts, all of the mouthwatering variety.
Our full bar offers 48 cold craft beers on draft, and a delightfully tippling assortment of wines and spirits. Stop by for lunch or dinner or a beer, or any combination thereof that tickles your fancy.
Reservations recommended for the Dining Room. However, we cannot accommodate reservations for the Patio and Bar.
"This place is a real find--not just for Delaware but for Columbus as well. The food is delicious and so well prepared. My friend and I returned after having a wonderful meal there once before. We shared a Bistro salad with the maple vinaigrette dressing. Exquisite! She ordered the Salmon with Yukon Gold potato hash, and I ordered the Greek Feta and Wild Mushroom Mezzaluna Pasta. Each dish was perfectly seasoned and prepared for an extraordinary culinary experience. The only disappointment was the service. It seemed like our server was never trained to clear finished dishes, refill water and drinks, or bring an extra plate for a shared dish saying, "You can just use your bread plates.""

"The food was excellent. Medium-rare 8 oz. filet which was cooked to perfection. My Wife was very pleased with the Shrimp & Grits dish, although it was a tad too rich and creamy for her so she was only able to finish half of it. As an appetizer we had the calamari with crumbled goat cheese and the crab rangoon dip. Calamari was really good. Same for the dip, but the chips (which are the flaky breaking from traditionally made crab rangoons) were way too salty. The chips had so much salt which caused the aftertaste to be nothing but salt. Seriously salty. Tried to eat a couple then had to stop. The desserts were amazing, tried 3 of them. A little loud, and did not like sitting less than 3 ft. from another couple. Would and will go back."

"I took my wife to the 1808 American Bistro as part of a planned date night. I had never dined there before. We very much enjoyed the food -- especially the daily special that featured fresh seasonal ingredients. The service was great. I recommend making reservations. We definitely plan to go back."

"We ate at 1808 for my birthday celebration and we could not have been more happy. Our server was very friendly and the food was amazing. The restaurant completely exceeded our expectations and we will for sure be coming back again! Thanks for the great experience!"

"Overall it was a good experience, good food ( filet Medallions ), and service. It is an old building and the floors were very bouncy when anyone walked by. The cheesecake was unique, very tasty."

"LOVED the 1808 American Bistro. Everything was delicious! The only thing we would have liked was some rolls with our pasta. Didn't realize you had to order them for $2.00. Come on....really?"

"We had a great time and best of all we were seated as soon as we arrived. It was very busy but out waitress took great care of us. We were not rushed which means a lot! Enjoyed good food, wine and a fun time.
Thanks"

"I had the salmon and it was very good. My husband had the filet medallions. Also very good. We really liked the huge beer and wine selection. They also let you taste beers for 25 cents which we were excited about. Our waitress was professional and attentive. The only complaint we had was the way the floor shakes everytime someone walks by your table. It is an old building, but it got kind of annoying when we were trying to eat."

"The restaurant was just okay. We were there at 6pm on a Friday & when our order was taken 15 minutes later, they were already out of the pork belly entree, which is what we came to try. If something is on the permanent menu and not a special (which this was), there should be an ample supply to accommodate diners through the evening. Being out of this at 6 p.m. is nuts. This is also the first restaurant I've been in that charges for bread and substitutions. Most gladly make substitutions and provide bread with the meal. The restaurant itself was nice with the exposed brick walls, etc. But the floor was so shaky when anyone walked by out table, all of the plates and glasses shook."

"We went on Saturday the 6th of April. I was my 55th birthday. Our table was a high top by a front window. The food was amazing and our waitress Lana or Lena was excellent. Her timing was perfect and she was very knowledgeable of the menu Perfect evening and we will be back often"

"Had a great dinner. Missed out on the short ribs AGAIN!! :( They sell out fast. Enjoyed great music by Michael Robinson in the bar. A nice night out close to home. Really enjoy the wonderful menu in such a small town. A must when you are in Delaware, OH!"

"Kelsey was an excellent server, very sweet and personable, too. This was our first time dining at this restaurant. Our first entree choice (Brick Chicken) was not available, but our second choice (ribs - without the rib!)was delicious. It was my birthday so we splurged eating beignets. They were beautiful and very tasty. They are different than the beignets at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, lighter and individually smaller, but just as good (my husband said "better.")"

"The food was amazing -- we had the special Green Goddess salad w/ roasted beats, pears, and arugula and the carpaccio to start. The Shrimp n Grits were creamy and dreamy, well seasoned and perfectly cooked shrimp. The Pork Belly was simply divine! Impressive beer offerings. The bread service was well worth the additional $2cost. The service was all over the board, but mostly poor. 15 minutes to get first round of cocktails, and then the entrees were served within 6 min of getting our first course, which made for a very crowded table and a rushed feeling. The server was nice enough, but strictly an order-taker, with no convo nor suggestions. The worst part was the trampoline floor which bounced our table every time someone walked by. Fix it!"

"We were excited to try a new restaurant as we'd heard good things about 1808 American Bistro, but while we had a good time, we did not have a great time. I was definitely disappointed that they were out of the 48 hour spare ribs which was what I had really wanted when scoping out the menu ahead of time. I ended up getting the shrimp and grits which I found incredibly salty. I would not order it again. Our waitress was also a little preoccupied with a really large table and we had to ask just to get water refills. We also noticed that most of the tables around us had bread and we didn't, so not sure if that was something we were supposed to get or we had to order, but our waitress never mentioned it. We're not sure if we'll try it again."

"I rated "ambiance" as fair and "noise" as moderate because they put me at a table and chair that shook terribly every time someone walked past, which was constantly. Would not be a big deal to fix the floor. Other than that it was good and I will go back. Just not at that table."

"Decided to go north to Delaware vs. south to Columbus for a date night. Happy with our decision and discovery. Menu was impressive across the board...more foodie than expected. Ambiance could use improvements in the lighting department...individual table lighting would be more intimate vs. chandeliers to light then entire room."

"Nice neighborhood restaurant. It is an older building with nice decor. Food is excellent. I had a hard time even deciding what to order because there were lots of great options. Nice selection of mixed drinks. It didn't seem like a restaurant that you would bring your kids to based off of looking at the menu, but there were quite a few families there. I wouldn't go here for a special occasion just because it is more family friendly, but it could easily become a weekend favorite."

"This was our second time going to 1808 to celebrate a special occasion. Their hummus was a great start to the meal and service was excellent throughout. Almost everyone in our party ordered steak. Mine was prepared incorrectly, but the restaurant manager made this right with us quickly, and without complaint. Everyone else in the party enjoyed the food, including the generous portions of mashed potatoes and grilled Asparagus. We will definitely be back."

"Food is delicious, tending toward New Orleans cuisine with unique approaches. The beer list is outstanding and very affordable if you make it for dinner on the tail end of happy hour. The beignets are to die for, so save a little room for dessert. The service is friendly and efficient but not as polished as the cooking. More what you would expect in a neighborhood favorite.
Handing out roses on Valentine's Day is typical of their thoughtfulness about the entire dining experience.
Also a great spot for lunch if you find yourself at the courthouse in the middle of the day."

"Charming place, great atmosphere and food was delicious. Small salad was huge. Lots of beer choices if you like to sample varieties. We tried salmon, walleye, shrimp and ravioli and they were all great and very tasty. A little difficult to find a parking spot but we will be back for sure."

"Our first time at 1808 and we had a very good experience. The menu has something for everyone. The cauliflower appitzer was very good, although a bit much for 2 people. My wife had the pork belly, the meat was very tender and delicious. I had the shrimp and grits. A small portion when you look at it, but very rich and filling. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and the sausage was good and spicy. I didn't think the shaved cheese on top was needed and there good have been more grits, but a very good dish otherwise. The staff was friendly and very attentive. We will be back."
