On July 15th, 2009, Caravaggio, opened its doors to New York City for the first time. Located at 23 E. 74th Street, the Bruno brothers' latest cutting-edge concept carries on the long-lived family tradition of serving great food to our devoted patrons and to the greater New York area.
Our attention to detail, in both food and service, will continue to be our main goal. We believe in nourishing body and soul, which is the wisdom of our Salerno ancestors from Southern Italy. Giuseppe Bruno, Cosimo Bruno, and their staff, along with the remaining fratelli Bruno, will strive to continue this heartfelt tradition.
"Why this isn't on NY's top five is beyond me. Food is simply outstanding service sublime and portion sizes are perfect. I've dined here a several times and always look forward to a return visit. It's quite small, so reservations are essential. It's hard to believe, but haven't had a meal of this quality since visiting 3-star La Pergola in Rome (ok, so Caravaggio doesn't have a panoramic view of the Vatican, but the cuisine is comparable). Not a dud on the menu and the staff treats you like a regular."

"Reading the menu, I must say was not inspiring, 'seen it ate it' combination of food, but that being said, they do those basic/traditional very well. The wine, the food was delicious, no complaints. Only thing haunting me is there wall art."

"I don't want to write a review, its a gem I want to keep to myself. This place is perfect on every level. It is one of those restaurants where every little detail is flawlessly executed, as so you won't even notice the service. The food is amazing. One of the best lunches I have ever had, and for $28 2-course or $35 3-course for lunch, its a steal. Take your business partner, your mom, or the girl you have a crush on. This will get them to seal the business deal, win over your parents, and have her asking you out for another date.
You go here, your meal will be perfect. Every time. Nothing else I would change."

"Both food and service are superb! The octopus salad is out of this world and the rack of lamb the best I've had in New York-cooked to perfection! The pasta tastes just as wonderful as it does in Italy! Try the chocolate soufflé and the bomboloni for desert. They have an impressive wine list but ask for suggestions-their recommendations have always been great! The service is prompt and attentive. Overall ...this place exceeds expectations across the board!!!!"

"Excellent upscale Northern Italian. Dishes like grilled calamari (not fried), a garlic lamb saddle, and others you din't find in pasta-and-sauce joints. They have some of the usual fare, but go here for some more unique italian specialties you won't find elsewhere."

"Expensive but great food. The service was a little rushed. We got appetizers before we got a wine list, that we asked for, but I didn't feel they were pushing us out the door."

"I'm a regular diner here and highly recommend. This meal was the first time I ever ordered something that wasn't terrific. I had the spaghetti with lobster and it had zero flavor. The staff is super attentive and sensed something was wrong. They immediately removed it and my replacement meal was off the charts delicious (pasta with eggplant, ricotta and mozzarella). Will definitely be back..."

"Busy place, great service, very good food. In this case it seemed like the frantic pace allowed our main courses to get over-cooked and dried out...which was disappointing because the appetizers were superb."

"Caravaggio never disappoints. The food is excellent, service top par. The only negative I have is that the prices at dinner are astronomical. The specials are much more expensive than comparable dishes on the menu. Osso bucco was $52. Eggplant parmigiana, a special, was $35. Very much on the high side."

"The fixed price lunch menu is a real steal. The portions and food were marvelously prepared. It is 7 blocks down from the Met Museum and I would highly recommend."

"I went to Caravaggio with a date visiting NYC before going to the Metropolitan Museum. That's the perfect high-end upper east side place to go for a quite and sophisticated dining experience. Although my date was not fitting the ambiance (jumper and sneakers?!?), the staff didn't make any comments on that. The restaurant has a great decor and the service is excellent. I got the mixed green salad, which was pretty delicious. With the compliments served on the table: olives, warm bread and parmesan sticks, we didn't need to order more for a light brunch! I highly recommend it, and will definitely return to Caravaggio. This time with the right guy!"

"The food was wonderful. A little bit on the expensive side a meal for two with wine 2 appetizers, 2 main courses and a dessert came out to $300 total, which for New York is not bad. Very romantic atmosphere. It is a gem in the Upper East Side. I would recommend."

"Always delicious, service is terrific and guaranteed great evening... Highly recommend! The chef is very accommodating so don't be hesitant to ask for something off the menu. I had the swordfish on the snapper's veggies. Yum yum and yum."

"Near perfect dining experience EXCEPT we were kept waiting for 20 minutes despite being pestered with a call at 5:30pm to confirm that very reservation. It is an unconscionable practice to insist that the customer needs to confirm and show up on time, but the restaurant has no reciprocal obligation."

"Caravaggio came so highly recommended. The initial downslide of the evening came with the ovious bait and switch of our reservation for a local couple couple who arrived as they were ready to seat us. We were then told our table was not finished yet and they sat the other people. We waited 30 minutes for our table, which was fine as we had a drink in the bar. Once sat, we waited for 10 minutes before we were even greated by our waiter...once again not awful, just a constant reminder that we were not important. We had to request more water and wine, sat with empty glasses for long periods of time. For the prices the service did not match. The food was superb, but for me the overall experience is what it's about....way to many fabulous other"
