Monti’s La Casa Vieja est. 1871 – 140 years old and still going….
Family owned and operated for over 54 years, Monti’s offers gracious hospitality and great food at reasonable prices. Built in 1871, Monti’s La Casa Vieja (“The Old House”) has a unique western atmosphere. Originally Tempe’s founding pioneer home, Monti’s has been carefully
restored to reveal foot thick adobe walls, river rock in the floors and
even a fountain in one of the many large dining rooms. Guests can dine
in the very room where Sen. Carl Hayden, “The most important person in Arizona history”, was born in 1877. Known for our steaks but even more known for our freshly baked roman bread – it will keep you coming back for more. Monti’s is just a few short steps from the METRO Light Rail stop in downtown Tempe.

"Our server seemed to not have his head in the game, forgot the bread and was not out very often to see how our meal was. in fact I saw the other servers around more than mine. The prime rib was not the greatest and on top of all of that the silver wear had food remnants all over, my wine was served hot, and the wine glass had food fragments baked on to it as well. Not impressed for a restaurant that was supposedly highly recommended."

"The family brought my wife here for Mothers Day. The food was awesome a usual but the service was below what we have become accustom to at Monte's. We seemed to have to ask for the drinks and bread basket to be refilled too many times. As is our tradition for this occasion, the dozen roses were delivered to the restaurant with the instructions of when to bring to the table but I had to ask another server to have them brought."

"Mothers Day 2013 was fantastic with my lady beside me as we dined at Montis. She had never been there before and I had. The food, the service and the atmosphere was totally beyond a grand experience. I would highly recommend Montis to anyone whether it be a local resident or a guest to Arizona."

"This once fantastic steakhouse was a disappointment. After arrival, the room we were seated in was quite noisy. The salad was very good but waited nearly an hour for the main course. It was lukewarm. For dessert, we opted for the churros and they were dry with no filling. Definitely would not come back for a special occasion."

"Overall experience was good. Service was good, but kitchen was slow. Did get seated in a semi-private area after requesting a separate room as we had a party of 12. "We booked a table for 10 for an ASU graduation celebration lunch. The food and service was everything I've come to expect from Monti's, first rate. "We have usually enjoyed Monti's but this visit was disappointing. Very loud,too many noisy kids, steak was dry and both entrees were poorly presented. Wine is WAY overpriced. Won't be back."

"Our group went here for dinner before our prom. It's a little bit of a maze but is a really awesome place to eat. Everything came in a timely matter even though it was a busy night. I had the fillet which was amazing and I could tell everyone was happy with their food as well. The waitress was very friendly and provided great service. I will be back in the near future."

"Our team was having an offsite in Tempe when one of the attendees recommended Monti's. I went online and requested a private area for a working lunch and was immediately accepted for a reservation for 10 people. When we arrived, the table was set up and ready to go, and we could hold our meeting without disturbing other guests. The food was great and the service was excellent. We will go here again!"

It's as good today as it was 50+ years ago when my parents took us there for the first time. "It's clear that the restaurant is more interested in the historic value of its property than the quality of the food. We were given the dime tour of the "fountain room" by both our host and server and while that was interesting, it doesn't make up for the unacceptable cut of Prime Rib and mac-and-cheese that had scant more flair than melting a slice of American over a ladleful of penne. The NY strip was tasty, and a perfect medium rare, so props there. But at $25 a plate just for entrees (margaritas average $8 - $10), there was absolutely nothing extraordinary about the meal."

"Monti's Casa Vieja is a long-standing favorite of my family. We have never had a bad or even moderate meal there - it has always been excellent faire. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. It is quite dark, so the ambiance can lean towards romantic in the booths, but we have been there a few times where unruly children have spoiled that moment. As there are many rooms, Monti's may want to think about designating one for people with children under 10 for the benefit of the other diners."

"They messed up our reservation by 45 mins. Ruined 2 of our meal orders, we had 7 people! With the reservation messed up and 2 botched food orders, not to mention last visit before this one was over 2 years ago and a party of 15, they also had multiple mess ups, and only 1 server for a group that big! Either never come with any party over 2 people, or literally never visit at all!! Simply just disappointed overall with this place... I would be satisfied with this places horrible services if they thought about taking there prices down to jack in the box prices.. Place needs new management, or please owners sell.. Or even start caring about the service and your cooks try to be accurate, then maybe montis can restore its original pride!!!!"

"The hostess, a high school senior, was a gem. Perky, informative, great people skills, mature for her age. The server was prompt, friendly, a delight. We expected the food to be great and it was. An outstanding experience. The couple who went with us had never been to Montis before and I know they will return."

"Monti's has been a family favorite restaurant for as far back as I can remember! The food was just as great as I remembered. The biggest difference is the prices have sky-rocketed from the last time I ate there which was 10 years ago. You used to be able to get a great filet mignon with all the trimmings for less than $15. Now, it's $30. It just seems like a big jump for not much change in the offering."

"The food was excellent! If you want a really amazing steak - this is the place!!!
I went to dinner with 6 people, basically two families. We wanted separate checks to make it easier for everyone. The waiter would not do this for us. He stated that the restaurant was too busy but half the tables were empty. He was a good waiter but why he couldn't do this for us was a little disappointing."

"Both my husband and I felt our beef was not cooked as requested. His was too well done and my prime rib was too rare (I requested "medium," which to me means red only in the center and fully cooked around the edges). Another member of our party sent her steak back to the kitchen. We thought later that maybe we should have sent ours back as well, but then the majority of our party would have been sending our meat back to the kitchen! Having said that, we still enjoyed the meal and think Monti's food is very good. We will bring guests back in the future. The service and ambiance make up for an irregular night in the kitchen."

"We go there every year during baseball Spring training. Excellent service and food at a reasonable price! The bread there is quite unique and is second to none. Jason the waiter even ran after us in the lot after we forgot our leftovers. A must if visiting the Phoenix area."

"This is the perfect place to go for a special occasion. The atmosphere is comforting and relaxing and the service is outstanding. The food is so delicious that we didn't even need a to go box. The Roquefort dressing makes an ideal compliment for the filet minon. Highly recommended. We can't wait to go back."

"Won't be going back. Food was very average. Setting had burnt out light bulbs and service was slow because waiter handled tables of six or more people leaving customers waiting for 20 minutes or more to wait for drink refills, the check, etc. Price was too high. I could have gone to Flemings and had a first class meal and service for what I spent at Monti's. I won't be back."
