Majestic Restaurant
The Majestic Restaurant carries on the Kansas City traditions of great food and great jazz. We serve brunch Saturday and Sunday, lunch Monday-Friday, and dinner seven nights a week. Featuring Kansas City's best dry-aged beef, chops, and seafood and located in the historic Fitzpatrick Saloon building at 10th and Broadway in downtown Kansas City, The Majestic Restaurant offers a true Kansas City dining experience like no other. Enjoy a great steak and fine wine in our main dining room alongside a grand bar dating back to 1910, or have dinner in our lower level jazz club, the site of an actual speakeasy during prohibition, all while listening to some of Kansas City's best jazz musicians seven nights a week. An extensive wine list, creative cocktails by nationally renowned bartender Shawn Moriarty, a list of over 100 whiskeys, and a sinful selection of delectable homemade desserts provide the perfect accompaniment to the meal and the music.

"We returned to the Majestic recently after several years absence- have always loved their food, great atmosphere, and entertainment, but the cigarette smoke in the basement was simply a deal breaker for us. Now that smoking is prohibited, it is a totally enjoyable experience and we will certainly return. The food was excellent, served piping hot, and our waiter was delightful. We were attending the Quality Hill Theater after our meal, and were pleasantly surprised to see how much more vibrant and alive this part of town is now.
We look forward to returning to the Majestic and heartily recommend it to anyone looking to experience a special evening out on the town!"

"This is the second time we have dined at the Majestic. The food, drinks, service,and live jazz were all great. The dry aged steaks were wonderful. Make sure you sample the fried risotto appetizers. They were so good that we could have just dined on them alone. The bartender is very skilled and the specialty cocktails are excellent. Add great live jazz on top of it all and you have the ultimate KC dining experience!"

"This is and has always been a favorite of ours, always great jazz bands, and the food is delicious. We always bring out of town guests to the "The Majestic", because it typifies what Kansas City is all about. The waiters are awesome, the food is delicious.

"We've been to the Majestic for after church meals before. The brunch selections are good and affordable. So, I thought it would be great for Mother's day. Unfortunately, by 1:00 we experienced the weariness of a restaurant who had a busy day. Guests earlier in the day received a complimentary rose, but those were gone by our arrival. So too the muffin baskets brought out on other Sundays (and which were present on other tables). The food took longer than usual and the waiter commented that the kitchen staff was weary having been at it since 7:00 am. The musicians who were present when we arrived quickly left. Overall our experience was fine, the food was good and well prepared, the server was friendly and knowledgeable. Go, but go early."

"Nice place to take out of town quests in the Downtown area.
I go the restaurant 2-3 times a month and i have a complaint about the tables downstairs. Everytime I set down stairs I feel like you are trying to put to many people in a small area which makes the sitting very tight and on Monday 5-12-13. It was 5 people in a business meeting and was placed at the bottom of the stairs at a table for 4 and I requested that we had a nice table.
Also the Ribeye was tender but did not have alot of flavor and the other folks agreed that their steaks did not have alot flavor either. But the fish and sides was good."

"We made reservations at the Majestic for Mother's Day Brunch. At first, I put in a reservation for eight to include my son and his family, but they backed out, so I changed the reservation to four. At the last minute, my son and his family were able to make it after all, so all of us (nine by that time) showed up at the restaurant with a reservation for only four. I realized that I had put the staff of the Majestic in a difficult position on a very busy day and had started the process to find another place to eat when they told us that they could move some things around and seat us! Of course we were delighted!
The food was excellent and the service was exemplary. All in all a wonderful experience."

"Our Mothers' Day Brunch (5/12/2013) was a long overdue opportunity to experience The Majestic. "I would not recommend the brunch menu. I ordered the grilled chicken with mango salsa it was very bland and oddly had a fishy taste.
The eggs my mother ordered did not come as requested. Overall, very disappointing Mother's Day meal.

"The salmon was very good, but the sides were nothing to repeat, they were average. The service was slow even after the crowds left . The prices are too high for the food, since the main entree was the only thing outstanding. I probably would not go there again unless to have drinks and listen to jazz.. Downstairs was enjoyable after the meal upstairs."

"We had a wonderful experience. My out-of-town guest visiting from the U.S. Virgin Islands wanted to experience a one-of-a-kind Kansas City steakhouse that can only be found in Kansas City. He was blown away by the fabulous service (including how helpful everyone was when I locked my keys in my car), and even more blown away by the wine and steak. Although the server could have upsold us on the bone-in filet, he asked the chef which he believed was the best cut on the menu. His choice was significantly less expensive, but the honesty was very much appreciated and shown in the tip. Entertaining live jazz, low-lighting, great food. PERFECT!"

"Decided to go here for prom night. My girlfriend and I decided to go just the two of us but we did see groups there. However I would not recommended it for a group bigger than 10 because there isn't an overabundance of space. For just the two of us, it was perfect. The upper restaurant area is absolutely beautiful and the service was impeccable. My server, Scott, took great care of us and gave us a quick tour of the jazz club underneath the restaurant. Our bus boy, Julio, was also very nice. The food was savory and delicious. I ordered the Majestic steak and my date ordered the Chicken Penne pasta; we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. So now to the best part of my time at the Majestic. The jazz club underneath the Majestic is fantastic."

"Great time at the Majestic. The occassion was Scott's birthday and we requested the Jazz Club. Robbie had a great table for us right in front of the Mark Lowery Trio. Jeff was attentive and made great suggestions without being pushy. The highlight was the meat and chesse appetizer, venison salamie, buffalo summer sausage, port sage something, and apricot Duval. The boys are still talking about how great the chesse was.(I was a meat fan.)The salads were crisp, the entrees flavorful, and the complimentary dessert was a nice finnish."

"First time visiting the Majestic. We sat downstairs in the jazz room, called ahead after making the reservation on OpenTable to make sure that is where we were seated. Reservation was for 6:15 and the band didn't show up and start playing until we were just received the main course. That made for good conversation with the other couple, but made it hard to continue that conversation once the band played. Not a real worry, but something to note. Service was outstanding and attentive without being annoying. I had the rib eye which was only dry on one side and enjoyable on the other. I probably would have sent it back if we didn't have show plans after dinner. Not something I expected for the price. Overall a nice experience."

"We took my father to the Majestic for his birthday. It was a perfect evening. We were seated right away. We went on a Sunday night, so it was not that crowded. The service was great. My brother asked for a raspberry lemonade. They did not have it available on the menu but our server created him one. The food arrived quickly and was cooked to perfection. My family all ordered steak but I ordered the salmon which was very tender and flavorful. Great restaurant. Will go again."

"Fantastic place. You can feel the history surrounding this restaurant with the decor, bar and live jazz. Great service from our waiter.Drinks were perfectly mixed.The food was amazing. "We have been to the Majestic many times for lunch and had a wonderful experience. Dinner was subpar, however. The walleye was simply ok and my husband's steak was good, but not great. We also waited around an hour for our entrees. For the price, I expected an amazing dinner and left feeling very underwhelmed. We will not be back for dinner."

"After hearing numerous recommendations to the Majestic, my husband and I made reservations for the downstairs jazz club on a Friday night. We were seated promptly at the reservation time, and I am glad we made reservations, because all the tables were full.
The best part of Majestic is the ambiance. It had a very lounge-y, old-school jazz club feel. The music and musicians were fantastic! While the music was energetic, I was still able to hold a conversation with my husband. We really enjoyed the entertainment factor of the restaurant.
The service was quick and cordial, but nothing extraordinary. Our steaks (filet and ribeye) were cooked well, but not seasoned well. I would go back again for the atmosphere,though."

"I have dined at the Majestic over the years with business colleagues, but this was my first visit for Sunday Brunch (Easter). We were seated downstairs and enoyed a cozy ambiance as well as great music (just the right volume level). Our party ordered a variety of entres (some Brunch items and some more traditional dinner-type entres)and everyone enjoyed their selection. There service was friendly and attentive.

"The Majestic is a great place to get away and either have a great steak, or have a great steak and listen to some jazz. My wife and I ate there on a Tuesday night when a jazz trio was playing and got to hear--up close and personal--some incredible talent. That only added to our delicious dinner. Although the Majestic is a bit expensive, it's not an a la carte steakhouse, like so many others, so the sides come with the meals. It's a nice change from many others that require you to pay an extra $7-$10 for a side of veggies."

"We had goat cheese with cranberries and a bottle of wine before dinner. The goat cheese was a wonderful appetizer! For dinner I had sea bass and my boyfriend had the rib eye. Both entrees were good, not fabulous, just good,...a little overpriced. The atmosphere was wonderful.... Great music and good service."

"We tried the Majestic for our 22nd Anniversary on a Friday night. They have live jazz music everyday of the week, which was a bonus. They gave us a great table downstairs in the Jazz Club where we could see and hear the trio, but we could still have a conversation. We had the spinach/artichoke dip which was smoothe and creamy. I tried the chicken corn chower and my wife had the steak soup. Both were good, we both perfered the chowder. I had the ribeye and my wife had the filet. Both were tender, well seasoned, and served hot..delicious! For sides we both had the mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus which were very tasty. They gave us complimentary dessert, house-made cheesecake which was very good, not too heavy. Great ambiance!"

"I had heard a lot about this restaurant and chose to go as we were going to a show at the Quality Hill across the street. Why not? Bad choice! This review is not about the bar which I believe has great potential. The restaurant food was fine. Nothing to rave about and certainly hard to appreciate given the poor service and crowded/ noisy atmosphere. Unless you enjoy being packed in like sardines and constantly being bumped by the wait staff this is a place to avoid. On the way out I explained my concerns and was left with...we'll look into it. That was it!"
