Max Brenner - Philadelphia
Max Brenner, Chocolate by the Bald Man, the first restaurant entirely devoted to chocolate, provides a “chocolate mood:” a person being surrounded by huge bricks, candles, pralines, colorful toy tins and crates filled with cocoa beans. Each person’s chocolate experience is exclusive to the individual as it brings out different emotions in each and every person. This can be experienced at our retail shop and dining room.
In addition to our unique chocolate, we also offer delicious savory foods. Whether it is our famous Brenner Burger or Mac & Cheese, there will be something for everyone in the group!

"Max Brenner is something pretty special. It's a restaurant and also a chocolate store, and it's pretty good at being both. I went there for brunch on Saturday afternoon, and I got the B.A.L.T., but other members of my party got savory and sweet (crepes!) entrees. They have good food, good atmosphere, good drinks, and good chocolate/desserts. It's almost a shame if you don't get dessert there. It's what they're known for! Definitely a good place to have a nice brunch or lunch or dinner!"

"We had several different palates will us. One vegetarian, one burger lover and two looking for a great tasting low cal meal. All were very happy with their choices. The low cal just had to try the waffle fries and loved them. The hint of cocoa powder was superb! The vegetarian, a Temple student, suggested Max Benner and we were all very happy with her choice. We will be back."

"Went to Max Brenner's with my family for breakfast on Mother's Day. We were there early (9:15am), so it wasn't too crowded. I had the chocolate pancakes and my son had the black and white chocolate blintz. They were both chocolate yumminess. The white chocolate chai was surprisingly delicious, as I am not a big fan of white chocolate (but a huge fan of Chai). My husband had a more traditional egg breakfast and enjoyed that, too, but you can get that anywhere ;-). We made a big stop to the gift shop on the way out. Great graphics and packaging. So far the chocolates I have eaten have been good, but not as good as Teuscher. Would love to go back to try some of the chocolate cocktails and desserts."

"I enjoyed my dining experience at Max Brenner- Philadelphia. Our party of 5 went for a casual pre-Mothers' Day dinner and despite making 8:30 reservations, we were not seated until nearly 9 PM. Our server was Melissa or Alyssa (sorry, I can't remember which one) but she was great and attentive from the start! At first, the atmosphere was a bit much due to the noise of other patrons competing with the blaring tunes over the speakers but our server was able to get the music turned down. Aside from that, the food and desserts were AMAZING and the presentation was awesome. My toddler even enjoyed herself. I will definitely return and explore more of the menu at those great prices."

"Having been here before I knew what a blast it would be!! So when my bridesmaids needed ideas for a fun destination to celebrate I thought it would be just perfect! "Definitely over rated! The tables were really close together! I felt like we were sitting on our neighbors. The food came out very quickly, which was great! However, it took quite a long time for the desserts to be served. The desserts were disappointing. We expected grandiose desserts. The $14 sundae had lots of yummy toppings, but not so much ice cream. A chocolate cake was really dry. The $8 chocolate milk that my daughter ordered spilled. The server eventually helped the kids clean it up, but never offered a new one. For $300 for 10 people, I would have liked a more pleasurable experience!"

"I wouldn't bother with regular food here. It's a little pricey, and who can eat normal food while smelling all that CHOCOLATE! Order the fondue and share with a group. Fun place to go for dessert."

"My daughter & I were treating ourselves to a Walnut Street shopping spree & decided to treat ourselves to a chocolate lunch. We were not disappointed! Our server was very helpful with our vegetarian entree requests and offered terrific advice when it came to chocolate desserts. We enjoyed a leisurely meal & even though the restaurant was crowded, we never felt rushed. The southwestern style caesar salad was delicious as were our veggie sandwiches. Don't miss the toasted pita wedges as a starter! The milkshakes are outta sight but the best thing we ate was the chocolate pizza with the works!"

"Stellar experience! Our waitress didn't hurry us as we waited for late arrivals, other wait staff told us what produced the lovely smells that wafted by our table, diners told us what they were having, and inquired what we'd sampled. The sea salt carmel hot chocolate in the HUG MUG was ravable, and an instant favorite. There are so many variations that taste buds couldnt get worn out. The fact that this location is 200 feet from 15/16th & Locust PATCO station makes it highly accessible to South Jerseyans! I do recommend that you book through Open Table if you have more than 4 people. There are tables that accommodate more, but we observed they were full the whole time we were there."

"This was our second visit to this location, and it remains a solid choice. We were seated immediately and our server was attentive but did not hover. Their menu is large and varied, with many interesting choices. Favorite side for us is the cocoa dusted waffle fries. I had the Asian Chicken salad, which was large and delicious. My husband had a waffle sandwich with prosciutto and apples, and he enjoyed it. Sadly, we did not have room for dessert, but there were many enticing choices on that menu as well! We will return. Only complaint, and it is minor, our menus were a little sticky."

"I took my family here for Sunday breakfast and we had a lot of fun perusing the interesting, chocolate-infused menu and trying different things. "I am a chocolate enthusiast so I was excited to try this place for the first time. I wasn't overly impressed. The drinks were good and food was okay. The dessert wasn't out of this world but it did the job. If I needed a chocolate fix this wouldn't be my choice again."

"Food and desserts were excellent. We were surprised however when we received our bill at the end for over $200 including tip for four people. We each got just sandwiches and then finished with a dessert and just did not expect it to be this expensive when it was all said and done."

"Pretty basic comfort-food done well and with a twist - like roast-beef sandwiches on savory (not sweet) waffles - and oh, the chocolate... The chocolate martini was definitely a hit for taste (though maybe light on spirits). Perfect as a date-night stop, or a bite to eat amongst friends. Seating might be a little tight for large parties, though."

"It was okay. Nothing terribly wrong but nothing great either. Nothing on the menu leaps off the page at you and we thought the desert menu was lacking. One would think that a place that specializes in chocolate might have simple desert items that showcased that--not so. Service was good but not spectacular. Not overly disappointed we ate one meal there, but nothing in this experience would draw us back again. The chocolate store doubles as the waiting area for the next diners making it difficult to shop for chocolate during busy times. I wanted to try their chocolate (one would have thought there might be a chocolate sampler on the desert menu) but I got tired of competing with the crowd and left without buying."

"I knew anything with chocolate would be fantastic but I wasn't expecting the entrees to be so delicious!!! I had a turkey club on a rosemary infused waffle that was so good! My son had the panini which he loved. The chocolate martini was the best martini I've ever had. The desserts are to die for !!! You'll have a hard time trying to decide what to get but whatever you choose, it will be heavenly!! We brought home chocolate from the candy shop for those who weren't at lunch with us and they raved!!"
